Enjoyed out of a 12 oz aluminum can with the distinctive Ska label art. Poured into a 16 oz tumbler glass.

Appearance - Strong pour yields a towering head of two and a half fingers. The color is light walnut creamy brown and is made of small bubbles with an occasional larger bubble sprinkled throughout. Retention is excellent and leaves sticky mottled lacing around the glass. Body is opaque and black, with hues of cola at the edges.

Smell - Herbal, spearmint and some medicinal qualities layered in with smooth, rich chocolatey characteristics and vanilla-like sweetness and hints of roasted walnuts.

Taste - Not quite as sweet as the smell, as here the minty notes mellow out the flavor so that it's sweet without being cloying. The chocolate characteristics are smoother, with almost no roasty characteristics.

Mouthfeel - Clean and smooth, but a little bit viscous and syrupy. Lingers in the mouth after swallowing, with a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Overall, a strange, but rather tasty beer for the right situation. I know medicinal qualities bother some people, but I suppose they aren't as problematic for me. Either way, that element is faint in this beer. I imagine it would taste pretty awesome in float form, given the sweetness and the mint flavors.

Opaque ebony body with a thin brown head; lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Prominent mint and chocolate aromas (like a Girl Scout chocolate mint cookie). Flavor mirrors the aroma -- sweet and minty; a smooth vanilla line running through it all. Medium-heavy body; silky smooth mouthfeel.

Now here is a treat of a stout! The can label mentions spearmint and peppermint in the ingredients, and they very much make their presence known, yet everything really gels and mixes together nicely. It's a grand mixture of chocolate and mint flavors with great balance overall. Nothing hammers you at the expense of other flavor components. Rich, deeply complex and very much a slow-drinking stout to savor and swoon over. Unique and deeply enjoyable.
