This is a huge grocery store. Very nice also. I've never been in a grocery store that has hardwood floors. The beer is in the far left hand corner and they have quite a selection of craft beers. The selection is not as good as Greenlife in Asheville but still very impressive. They mostly have sixers, but at the end is a few bombers. They had Orval and St. Bernardus Apt 12 at a grocery store! I bought a sixer of Cottonwood Frostbite for 5.99 a sixer. I was impressed with most of their prices. Even if you go to Boone for Peabody's it's worth a trip to the Lowes Food first b/c you may find something you want cheaper. I will make Lowes an official part of my Boone beer run.

Stopped in while in the area. The beer section is to the far left when you first walk in, unlike other Lowes Foods, where it is near the wine section. Wrap around cooler covers the front left corner. There's a good bit of craft represented, as well as mix-your-own sixer section. Prices were reasonable. There's nothing here that's really special, though the bomber section carried more than I've seen at other Lowes Foods. This isn't a place I would go out of my way for, but if I was already here for groceries, not a bad spot to throw some already chilled beer into the cart.

Beer easy to find in the corner near the cash registers. Nice selection of regional, national, and international brews which favors 6-packs over bombers. Specials emphasized regional beers which was just what I was looking for. Picked up a 6-pack of Highlands Pale Ale from neighboring Ashville, NC for $7.99, and an incidental mixed 6-pack of Terrapin Rye Pale and Golden Ale courtesy of a sneaky prior customer for $8.49. Their selection is good but not exceptional (most Harris Teeter stores have more options, but higher prices), but they were very reasonable pricewise and had a nice reginal selection. Also, was in and out of the store in 5 minutes on a Sunday afternoon raceday -- can't beat that.

Stopped in here after Harris Teeter, and there is defiantly a noticeable difference here. I saw some nice Belgians that I did not find there along with Magic Hat Winter 12 pack and some heavy seas stuff. The prices were about the same maybe being a few cheaper on some things at Lowes, but I thought that it was overall laid out much nicer, and they did have a bit more of the seasonals out. But to be honest it was a toss up either way. Now I would love to have either of these stores in my neck of the woods as they really seem to care about there stock. Definitely will be stopping in here again the next time I am in town, this place is a must stop in Boone if you are looking for a deal.

If you want to find a deal, of course the grocery store would be the place to go. The only problem in most cases is finding the beer that you were actually looking for to begin with. At this Lowe's, the problem is solved. They have a great selection on the far left side of the store once you walk in. In the middle you'll see boxes of mixed 12's and other items. Usually they will put their seasonal beers in this area. Along the wall there are many microbrews while on the left wall you'll see macros. I guess some people would call this the best of both worlds, though I always seem to stray toward the micros. Great news for me is last time I went they surprisingly had Bell's up there for a bargain. $8.99 is the best I've seen from them and you can find it at Lowe's. Hobgoblin, Rogue, Chimay, and many other bottles. Terrapin, Brooklyn, Victory, and many others as well. They also added a little Belgian section on the end of a random isle nearby. If you're trying to find some good beers for a bargain you should check this place out. They'll usually even have a few on sale that might catch your eye.

Visited Lowes after hitting Earth Fare. Selection is about the same with a couple different beers available from the South East area and few more Belgians. They even have kegs! Coming from a state that doesn't sell beer in grocery stores, it's nice being able to do one stop shopping. Don't be tricked into looking for the beer by the wine when you first walk in...it's all the way over in the front left corner. Nice, big L shaped area with a few stacks in the middle and a small display of Belgians about two aisles from the end. It's looking a lot better coming coming back to visit my parents since they lifted the cap.

Since the cap was popped the Lowes has really come up to the challenge. More Unibroue beers that anyone else in Boone and a great selection. I had to move the selection down to a 4.0, but they still almost outshine the rest of the places around so this would still be a key stop on the beer tour.

From 5-25-04
overall: 4.45

I started to not even check out the Lowes Foods figuring it was a fluke that it showed up in the BeerFly. I'm glad I took the time to check it out. One word sums it up...WOW!

I believe that within the 6% law in NC this is the best selection I have ever seen in a grocery store. Stacks of micros in the center of the large L-shaped beer aisle. Some Belgians, many UK beers and also many South Eastern US micros. I even saw micros from the Raleigh area that I have a hard time finding in Raleigh itself.

I will certainly stop back by the Lowe's Foods and if we ever change the alcohol laws in NC this place will almost be beer mecca....

There was more craft beer in this store than any grocery store I've been to. They even had a decent selection of bombers. There was several selections that were on sale too. I bought a sixer of Terrapin for about $6.50. When you go in the front of the store hang a left and the beer will be in the front left corner of the store. They had mini kegs of OHB beers and full sized kegs too. But this is a college town. I would certainly like to go back here sometime. I really did not think there would be this much beer here but I was suprised. Probably the number two beer store in Boone.

Very good selection of beer for a grocery store. I visited on 12-28-05 and the store had many of the winter seasonals available at cheaper prices than most beer/liquor stores. I saw SN Celebration, Sam Smith Winter Welcome, Winter Cheer from Edenton Brewing, Harpoon Winter Warmer, Cottonwood Frostbite(high gravity) and several others. I picked up a 6-pack of Winter Cheer for $6.49, a bargain for an 8% abv beer. Service was non-existent, but that's OK for a grocery store, where you basically serve yourself. The only other grocery where I've seen this kind of selection is the Kroger in Blacksburg, VA.
This place is worth a visit if you're in the area, but Peabodys has a much larger selection and is just a few minutes down the road.

This weekend was my first trip to Boone and thank god for Beerfly I knew where to go look for decent beer and my hotel was right across the street to boot. The Lowes here in G-boro has a preety good selection but this Lowes is quite larger in selection,I noticed the Mendocino line as well as Sweetwater420,IPA,and Sweet Georgia Brown,Thomas Creek varieties as well as good array of imports.I didnt see any Russian River like a few others, outside of the hippies everywhere my trip to Boone was pretty cool I picked up some Sweetwater IPA and Thomas Creek multigrain for the road.
