11.15 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottom of back label says "Best by" but there's no date stamped. (edit: I take that back. The date ALH10274 is stamped at the top of the back label, far from where it should be stamped)

Appearance - Super dark brown/black body. Huge loose offwhite head with low stick and decent to good retention.

Smell - Strong corn. Coffee. Some malty sweetness and noticeable alcohol.

Taste - Stale coffee water. Some metal in the finish. Acidic.

Mouthfeel - Pretty flat and stale. Very weird acidic/astringent aftertaste.

Overall Drinkability - The metallic, astringent, stale, and acidic off-characters are so prominent that this beer has almost no redeeming qualities.

This is a dark black beer with chocolate milk head that leaves stripes of sandy lacing all the way down. The smell is delicious milk chocolate. Tast is smooth, but a little heavy for the style. Before I looked it up I thought I was surely drinking porter or stout. Definately has the mouthfeel of stout. Drank it down no problem. A great brew.

Ap: Very dark brown with faint reddish highlights against a strong light. Light tan head is massive, rocky, long-lasting. Great lacing.

Ar: Creamy, nutty nose, with caramel notes and faint roasted malt character. Creaminess is very appealing, approachable, inviting, and welcoming. Grains more are evident as it warms. There's also a sharpness, like grain alcohol (yet it's only 5.4%)

T: There’s a very noticeable flavor of dark rum (almost like whisky), with a creamy backbone and some slightly roasty, caramel notes. Reminds me a bit of rum & coke. Interesting. That may sound awful, but it's pretty nice overall.

M: big, round, slick mouthfeel. Medium-to-full-bodied.

F: Finishes with a silky, creamy, smooth caramel flavor with notes of dark rum.

Note: I like most of my beers on the 'warmer side', but this one really needs a good chilling to go down smooth. Drink straight out of the fridge.

33 cl bottle, dated "Best By HLH12086"?, served in an American lager glass. Pours a very deep brown color with a nearly opaque body, but when held to a light a faint red hue shows. The tan head is medium size and resembles that of a root beer float. It is moderately durable and leaves plenty of sticky lacing. Purchased today {although best by date may be 8/12}, yet this is a bit skunky; the only skunky black beer I can remember. This is a problem in both the aroma and the flavor. There’s a suggestion of hops in the nose with little in the flavor, and only a suggestion of medium malt in the nose with, thankfully, more in the flavor. More sweet than bitter; a tad too sweet. Some smoke in both the nose and mouth. Alcohol is surprisingly prominent in the nose.

M: Medium body; medium carbonation.

O: needs to be revisited with a sample that is definitively fresh. Reason #1345 for a trip to Spain.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A-Very deep brown color with a somewhat opaque body when held up to the light a faint red hue is noticed. The head is medium size and pretty creamy with a tan color. It settles down to a thin skin but is still hanging on.

S- Very clean smell with a light roast malt aroma. No hops or yeast notes at all.

T- The malt taste is not really roasted but more like a molasses or honey malt taste. It has a light hopiness that really is a nice balance to the light maltyness. a bit of a sweet malt that then leads quickly to a dry finish.

M- This has a pretty light body even though it looks dark in color and it has a bit of fuzziness at the end.

D- This was definitely a diamond in the .99 cent bin at the liquor store. I'm not really sure it fits into the Euro Dark Lager style cause I don't really drink enough of them to know. It has good balance and is very nice to quaft. I think I will have to try some other brews from Alhambra if I can find them. Is it possible that its a Moorish brewery, I didn't think so.

Big tan head rests atop a clear dark burnt red almost brown colored lager.

A light syrupy almost roasted molasses aroma.

Roasted almost burnt caramel taste, quite interesting, don't know if this would get worse or grow on you if you were to drink a bunch of these.

Finishes with a light dry roasted aftertaste.

Poured an dark amber brown with a just off white head that is soft, fluffy but very unimpressive.

Smell is very sweet and of light caramelized grains. Weak and uneventful.

Taste is a disappointment. It reminds me mostly of corn syrup, overly sweetened and not much else to balance it out. There are some light caramel and toasted cereal flavors but those are eclipsed by an over aggressive carbonation and a slight metallic taste.

Thin body with not much going for it other then the fact that its cold and wet. Feels slightly watered down and has an unnatural processed flavor. This one I bet tastes great on vacation in Spain but here in the comfort of my home its a poor showing.

bottle given to me by my neighbor, who didn't care for it. Poured into an English pint glass.

A - nice dark color with some head. looks promsing.

S - sweat, malty, grassy, didn't expect much, so its no surprise I'm not really diggin' it

T - malty, weak, no aftertaste, not much happening. almost tasted better than it smelled. the foundation is average, but it delivers nothing at all. very blah.

M - decent, good carbonation

D - tried it cold: didn't like it. let it warm: liked it less. maybe paired with the right dish it could be better... I have no idea how old this is, but based on the carbination I imagine its within expiration. I've moved past my days of being a beer snob (like I had any rite) and try my best to go at every beer I try with an open mind. we have american macro-lagers that turn their nose up at this one. Maybe this is an aquired taste?

Thin, almost tan head. Black body.
Pure rich roasted malt smell.
A nice roasted malt taste too. Mild bitterness a little nutty.
Crisp with a medium body. Holds the flavor well.
Really a solid dark lager. Great taste and smell with that lager "lightness" to it.

Received from unholy2, a bonus beer in a on-going trade

Pours a ruby tinged chestnut with 4+ fingers puffy tan head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Toasted malt & herbal hops

T: Roasted malt & cola-like sweetness, dryness & herbal hops up front. Slight molasses flavor, more dryness & a slight cardboardy taste as this warms. Finishes with a kiss of licorice, a touch of toasted malt, some cornyness & some dryness

MF: Light/medium bodied with minimal carbonation

This was alright, but seemed a bit tired/old, could be better at the source. Not a style that please me to begin with, but would take it over BMC or most Eurolagers I've had...

Dark brownish red pour with a very stable brown head.

Chocolate aromas dominate the nose. Good, but not too exciting.

A bit of roast in the flavor. Some noble hops and a bit metallic.

An entirely unoffensive beer with a surprising amount of flavor. Worth a try for sure.

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a small head. Smell is very mild, some malts. Taste is of malts and chocolate, finishing a tad bitter. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and has average drinkability. Overall not bad, but nothing special about this beer.

A: Deep brown, with ruby hues when held tot he light. Nice tan head on top.

S: Very sweet and syrupy, with a touch of roasty malt. Definitely a corn syrup thing here.

T: Slightly roasty, but it really has a club soda thing going on. Very weird... The finish is a bit roasty and bready.

M: Thin mouthfeel, and very high carbonation.

D: Meh.. I don't think I will need to get this again.. definitely a little thin and odd ball.

11.2oz bottle into nonic. Surprised to see this one here. I've seen Alhambra Especial, but not this one.

Little bits of steely burnt malt along with a little but of a cocoa aroma.

A bit of chocolate mixed with caramel, but tastes more like burnt malts mixed with an overload of diacetyl. Slightly metallic finish, slightly acerbic.

Maybe a bit of oxidation in this one after a long trip across the sea and maybe some considerable shelf time.

Got from beer of month club. Poured from a 33cl bottle into a pint glass. The back label had "Best by: AH9351" - WTF? Was a dark brown color with no visible surface carb. It had an averaged sized head that settled into a thin collar. Slight quick sliding lace that didn't stick.

The aroma was roasted malt, metallic, some dark fruit and raw grain. The taste was sweet malt with some molasses and dark fruits. The metallic and raw grain aromas didn't translate into the taste thankfully. No hops in aroma or taste. Mouthfeel was medium with a bit of watery after-taste.

Overall, a standard dark lager. Didn't suck but didn't impress either. If in Spain or Spanish themed restaurant and faced with limited choices, I could have another but outside of that I wouldn't have another. [N;N]

I was quite surprised to open this offering from a Cost Plus Beer of the World package. I saw that it was from Spain and assumed it was a standard Euro lager or Pils, but no, this one is dark!

Pours a deep dark brown with a pretty tan head that is quite persistent. Lacing sticks firmly to the side. Aromas of rich malts, I think I'm gonna like this beer!

Flavor- ok, not quite as great. Rich dry malts (almost Irish stout-like) with a rough acid ending. It has some interesting coffee/chocolate notes that provide a lot more flavor than I would have expected, and it is much better than I thought it would be. But not quite over the top crazy wonderful.

Recommended.
