A lovely and very tasty offering from the folks at Flour City. I had it as part of their six-beer sampler, so I'm going on a 4 oz. serving. True to its name, it pours a darkish red and murky amber topped with a deep tan head. The aroma was a fresh combination of malt, some hops and a distinct nuttiness, and the taste appropriately followed suit with just a bit more emphasis on the sweet malts. Flour City promotes this as a "full-bodied" brew, and I would agree with that assessment; there is nothing thin or meek about the amber, and it is unquestionably a worthy choice.

Eye Candy: Closely resembles the Ruddy Red, amber/ garnet in color with ample rising carbonation. Not transparent and poured with 2 finger head making this amber "thick."
Tongueland: Toasted malt backbone, sweet without overdoing it. Could almost pass for an Oktoberfest. Perfect for an Amber.
The nose knows: Again, sweet with malt character.
Bender Factor: I'm keeping this review simple: Backastor is my Flour City favorite.

The fine folks at Flour City have refined most of their beers to perfection. This one is well on it's way there.
Poured a deep red colour with a thick rich head perched atop, Back Astor is a beautiful example of an American Red Ale.
The thick head is the perfect release for the malty aromas, sweet and inviting. The taste is very malty and just about perfect for the autumn season.
Great beer from a great brewery.
