A fine stout, this is. Pouring a blood red colour with a thick light tan head, it look as a true stout should look. The aroma is smokey with mild hints of coffee that really get you going. The taste is easy. A stout that is very non offensive and easy to drink. Coffee and toffee flavours mix well for a well balanced stout. A must try for anyone who visits Flour City Brewing Co.

Better than average beer though below average on the style. More of an amber colour. No roasty aroma. Great head of cream. Not too strong at 5.5%. Roasty coffee cream, somewhat smooth, and somewhat bitter taste. A fine drink I could have again, and well combined in the Dirty Harry, which would make a most interesting bottling.

Eye Candy: Poured REALLY thick, black in the dark and the desired garnet red intermixing in the light. Nice tan head that lasted throughout.

The Nose Knows: A true coffee stout. Coffee prevails, detected something rich and smokey?

Tongueland: Thick and rich as a stout should be. The coffee is balanced with a hint of caramel. As Black Magic warms, the malts emerge and make this desert.

Bender Factor: Refreshing.A perfect finish. Takes awhile to pour, but good things come to those who wait. DO NOT get growlers of Black Magic unless you drink them that day/night.

Had this one on tap at Flour City. Arrived perfectly poured with a thick off-white two inch head. Though it was relatively dark in there I could make out some slight ruby highlights glinting through the glass.
Smell was subdued, but there was the trademark subtle roasted quality with hints of coffee.
Mouthfeel was great, thick & rich, coupled with the creamy head. The roasted flavor blossomed in the mouth with each sip. The aftertaste consisted of lingering smokiness and cream. It was a pleasure to drink, but at times it tasted a bit light, and lacked complexity. Nonetheless its a fine drinkable stout.

Its a good start for a new brewery.

A thick, deep red, smooth (no carbonation) stout with a frothy dark khaki head, the Black Magic issued a smoky chocolate and toffee aroma, and the taste reminded me of the drinking a late-night Irish coffee around a smouldering campfire. The vestiges of charcoal malts made this is delightful cold weather beer.

35ibus. Dark black, creamy tan head. Aromas are roasty and very reminiscent of Heartd of Darkness from Magic Hat. Taste is all chocolate, roasted malt, and slightly burnt, bitter, and acidic Italian roast coffee. At 4.3%abv this is quite complex for a stout. Definately much better than Guinness, and fresher as well. Mouthfeel is pretty thick, and suprisingly this is the first non-nitro brewpub stout that I have encountered in a while. Drinkability is damn good. Solid.
