I checked out this place because a friend goes here alot.

I am glad that I did. While the selection is not much different here than anywhere else in Knoxville, I was able to find De Dolle beers!!

They had Oaked AB which I do not see too often down here, and there were several other beers that I have not seen.

Yes they have AB, Ruination, Thomas Hardys, select DFH, Chimay, and the other Knoxville staples, but I will be back for the De Dolle!!!

Service was not stellar, though did not really talk to anyone there.

Please Tennessee start getting a better selection of Stone Beers!!!

I checked out McScrooge's again when I was in Knoxville. It is primarily a liquor store, but does have some high gravity beer. They have everything that is expected such as 22 oz. New Belgium, Stone, Rogue, etc., but there is not a lot of great 12 oz. beers. They have a strong selection of imports, but I would not go here for a wide selection of Belgians.

Great liquor store, but average beer store.

I will give them this - this is the only place that I've ever found DFH World Wide Stout, but that was a couple of years ago.

Love this store! It's my go to store, even though I live near downtown. Of course TN is a frustrating place to drink in, but if you are reading this review, you don't have much choice in that. Maybe Downtown Wine and Spirits has better selection, but this place is better priced and has better selection in drinks other than beer. They don't have my favorite--Samuel Smih's Tadcaster-- but again, it's ABV is too low.

(Note: Due to stupid ass TN liquor laws, this store only carries beer over 6% ABV, as is with all package/liquor stores in TN. Lower gravity beers are sold in more traditional outlets like grocery stores.)

Out of the few package stores I visited in Knoxville, this one probably had the best selection, though not by much. Not that it's any fault of their own, but screwy Tennessee liquor laws stifling the craft beer scene don't help at all. The place is clean and well laid out. Wine is definitely their forte, with spirits playing a close second and craft beer a distant third. I was able to find some good stuff I don't get in Kentucky (Lagunitas, Terrapin, SweetWater, New Belgium Lips Of Faith Series), some craft staples (Stone, Sierra Nevada, Chimay, Brooklyn, Fort Collins, Green Flash) as well as a few nice imports (J.W. Lees, other Belgians) and even a new brewery to me (Crown Valley Brewing out of Missouri) which I've enjoyed thus far.

There was a guy merchandising the bottles and asked if I needed any help, which I responded with the traditional "Just browsing." He then proceeded to help someone who seemed like a regular and they both chatted up beer. So at least they have a "beer guy."

They had two shelves dedicated to craft beer and an end cap as well. Nothing was really rare, but there was some great stuff...and even a bargain bin! There aren't enough bottle shops with bargain bins. The best part was the price; this place was the cheapest out of any package store I've seen in that area by about 10%.

It's hard to find a one stop craft beer shop anywhere in Tennessee (outside of Nashville) but as far as bottle shops in Knoxville are concerned, this place should definitely be the first stop.

This is one of the best spots in Knoxville for beer (huge whiskey selection, too). Today, I found a bunch of DFH stuff even though DFH recently pulled out of TN.

There is a great selection of both American craft and foreign imports. I have found a bunch of good Belgian and German beers. The prices are competitive as well.

The staff is always friendly and ready to help you find what you are looking for. I haven't personally used them, but I have seen them helping many people that come into the store.

I you live in West Knoxville, then you should certainly check this place out.

I noticed that this place hasn't been reviewed in a while so I thought I better jump in.

Simply stated, McScrooge's has the best high gravity beer selection in Knoxville. While most other liquor stores relegate high gravs to a lower shelf or two at the rear of the store, with maybe 8 or 10 brands, McScrooge has both sides of an entire center aisle stocked with beers. From the familiar to the strange, McScrooge has them: Dogfish, Jolly Pumpkin, the trappists, Corsendonk. I scored some tough-to-find DFH Squall IPA there last Fall.
I've seen some low grades by other reviewers, but I can only assume that McScrooge has gotten its act together over the past couple of years. Give it another try - you won't be disappointed. Ask for "Matt", he knows his beer and will track down whatever you're looking for.
