Notes/Commercial Description:
During the 1800's, when the sun never set on the British Empire, beer being shipped to the Far East always arrived spoiled. To correct this situation, British brewers added large quantities of hops to their pale ales. (Hops act as a natural preservative.) The result is an intensely hoppy amber beer.

Had this one while attending the Repeal of Prohibition event in St Louis.

While it is billed as an IPA, it really did not remind me of a typical IPA. While it had some citrus notes, it seemed sweeter/less hoppy than I expect from a typical IPA. Don't get me wrong, the flavor is good and my favorite of the Bosco's beers that I had at the event.

Bombay flys to the table in the standard shaker pint, a clear amber with a decent white head, sticks around for a bit.

Aroma is light hops with a touch of spice, which transferres into the quaff the same light way. Even the finish is easy with a touch of woody resin tossed into the fray. The entire character of this brew, from taste to body, has been light - too much for an IPA. This one is closer to English pale ale.

Still, a decent drinker, just not a big IPA - be warned.

Pours a clear, light amber color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus hops, slight sweet malt, and a hint of pine. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of citrus hops (dominates), sweet malt, and slight yeast. Overall, simple body, but good appearance and mouth feel.

Notes from 5/23

A: Deep golden with ½ finger head. Decent lacing and very mild carbonation.

S: Well, hops, but not just a ton of them. Caramel hints along with a mild nuttiness. Maybe some citrus but it’s light.

T: Very good hop flavor. Medium bodied and I do get that orange zest towards the end of the taste. Bready malt up front as well. Spicy hop notes are occasional.

M: The mild carbonation lets the hops do their work. Fairly light and drinkable but a solid, bitter finish.

O: I enjoyed this beer much more than I thought I would at the onset. It’s honest to the style

A copper color, little head and provided no lace as I consumed. Malty nose of carmel malts with a fruity backing. Medium mouthfeel. Significant sweet malts followed by loads of hop bittering. Leaves a long snappy, bitter finish. A hint of cinammon on finish. Mouthfeel is just a tad lacking.

Overall, a tasty beer with siginificant bittering. Their best beer.

Appearance: The amber colored liquid arrives at the bar with a foaming head that continues to rise for about 20 seconds while the barmaid wipes the overflow away; the bubbles are very large and while the persistence is not great, lacing sheets the pint glass

Smell: Caramel and citrusy hops

Taste: The caramel and citrusy hop flavors blend together from start to finish; the combination created a flavor that was a bit different but rather pleasant

Mouthfeel: Medium body with low to moderate carbonation, almost as if it was on cask

Overall: Perhaps a bit sweeter than I typically like my IPAs but very nicely balanced

From notes.

Presentation: Arrives in a flute-like 10 oz glass. This one is cask, tapped tonight, and made with Pacific Ale Yeast.

Appearance: This white ring of foam, no appreciable head and thus, no lacing. The beer itself is medium yellow and perfectly clear.

Smell: Floral hops with a hint of fruitiness.

Taste: Fruity malt and hops with hints of honey and pineapple.

Mouthfeel: Lower than average carbonation, as is to be expected. Good body.

Drinkability: Good, in fact very good. Haveing been just tapped this evening however, I didn't get alot of the sourness I associate with cask. Too bad.

A- Pours a clear golden, lighter than many in the style. fluffy white head leaves some lacing. Head disapates to 1/8 of a finger.
S- Caramel and pale malts, white grapefruit and a hint of spruce.
T- Hoppier than nose indicated but still well balanced. Fruitier, rather than "pine" though some evergreen notes were there. A bit sweet throughout.
M- A long bitter finish. Could use a touch more weight and carbonation, but I'm nitpicking.
D- A very drinkable refreshing IPA. Getting through the growler will not be hard.

This was a nice surprise... Good little brew here..

Arrived looking great with a very attractive light amber color and a very fluffy head... Awesome lacing as well..

Aroma of some caramel malts with the faintest of grapefruit hoppiness... Very subtle..

Much hoppier than I was expecting! Wonderfully balanced flavor of sweet malt with a big grapefruit kick in the middle finishing bitter..

This would make a great session brew! Very tasty!
