Had a few of these on tap at Fonte Coffee/Wine Bar (great happy hour btw).
A- Pours a fairly dark reddish amber - quite dark for the style. Decent head, although can never be sure on tap how it was poured. Great lacing - lots of superior lacing that really just stuck to the glass.
S - Citrus and pine hops are right at the forefront. Quite strong. Sweet malt is there as well. Quite nice.
T - More herbal and bitter compared to so many citrusy DIPA's I have been having lately. Actually, was listed as just an IPA, so not sure if it is a true 'double' although I guess the ABV supports it. Hale's definitely always leans towards the piney & herbal and bitter over citrus, and this is no different, but it is balanced nicely with a fair amount of malt. Although I wouldn't classify it amongst the flavor leaders for west coast IPAs I still found it quite enjoyable and would order again.
M - Medium bodied and a little oily. Nice overall and an improvement over the regular Mongoose which I am not a huge fan of.
D - Decent for the ABV, I had two pints with light food and feel nicely buzzed. Not exactly sessionable, but it is a pretty respectable IPA especially if you prefer them on the bitter side.

Very hazy orange with a two fingers of cream colored head that recedes rather soon leaving nice rings of lace.
Smell is mostly sweet malts. I can't pick out any hops aromas.
Taste is big time sweet malts with a light amount of hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium with just enough carbonation. Lightly bitter somewhat dry finish.
overall a middle of the road DIPA. Nothing bad about it just too many big competitors.
About 10 to 20% more hops would do it. With no date on the can I can't tell if the beer might be a bit old. If I see it on tap I will give it another try.
