The brewers aged Supergoose in used Evan Williams barrels (variety unknown) for nine months. They then mixed it 50/50 with fresh Supergoose to restore the hop bite, which fades when hoppy beer ages.

This results in slightly less hoppiness than Supergoose, and a slightly less prominent vanilla character than most bourbon barrel aged beers.

Poured a deep orange with a finger of off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel, pine, and light vanilla.

Moderate carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Sweet grapefruit and caramel up front followed by big vanilla and caramel sweetness with some bitter pine on the finish.

Pleasant but the flavors never quite meld. Maybe a little heavy on the barrel aging here.

A: Poured a deep golden color with good carbonation leaving a small white cap, moderate bubbles and light lacing cling to the glass

S: The nose was pretty simple; bourbon, some vanilla and some Earthiness to it

T: Immediate bourbon, not over the top but enough take control of the remnants of a long lost IIPA. Vanilla is introduced shortly after the sip along with more bourbon and booze. The finish is bourbon, light sweetness, some booze sting.

M: Medium bodied, lowly carbonated, or less than I liked. Bourbon sets up camp on the palate as does some booze and light sweetness

O: This beer was overly done. It reminds me of a single IPA with a cheap shot of bourbon in it. To much time in a whiskey barrel leaves a faded IIPA smothered in bourbon. At no point in time was I ever able to tell that the base beer was Supergoose, and I have consumed alot of damn Supergoose.

On tap at Pint Defiance the other day.

The beer pours a golden amber color with good head retention and lacing. Didn't get a whole lot initially on the nose, but as the beer warmed, I picked up an intriguing blend of dank earth, skunky weed, vanilla and light fine bourbon (was told this beer was aged in Maker's Mark barrels). The flavor profile replicates the nose, and I appreciate the fact that the brewer was not too heavy handed with the bourbon barrel aging. On the other hand, the bourbon aging definitely took the edge off a lot of the bitterness I associate with Supergoose, and frankly, this comes across as a completely different beer. This version tastes almost like a somewhat hoppy golden ale, with notes of vanilla and light bourbon. It's tasty enough, but it really isn't very much like a NW IPA any more. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with a fairly long, smooth and lightly bitter finish. Alcohol is not very noticeable (I'm not positive if the 7.5% is accurate, but everything I can find on line seems to indicate that this beer has the same abv. as the regular supergoose)., which in my book is never a bad thing.

A nice enough beer, and superior to many of the overly boozy oak aged IPA/DIPA's I've had from ST and Great Divide, but at least for me, I prefer the regular supergoose to this version.
