This is a must-stop for any craft-beer lover in the area or just passing through, like I was. Large, well-appointed store. Blake, the beer specialist, is very knowledgeable and is a true beer geek. They have an outstanding selection of American and European craft beer and pour some very impressive stuff in the back at their growler station (they had Brooklyn's Cookie Jar Porter when I stopped in). They also seem to have some really nice rarities tucked away in the back. The prices were very reasonable, and some of the specials they had were really quite a deal. I frequently travel through BG on my way to Nashville for business and I will make a point now of stopping at Chuck's when I do so.

I went to this location on a road trip because I wanted to pick up some local beers and I saw from other reviews that they allowed mixed six packs. They only had about 3 or 4 Kentucky breweries for sale and they no longer allow mixer sixers. So if you’re looking for that, I’d go elsewhere. They did have a decent selection of craft beers from other places, if you wanted to buy a pack.

It was super convenient off I-65, so that’s nice. The employees were also helpful and nice. It’s a nice place but just not for me.

You have no idea how big this place really is from the appearance of the storefront. Vast selection of wines, spirits of all types, and beer. Craft, macros, imports, they have it all. Most of the beer is kept refrigerated, but a lot of it is shelved on the main floor. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable, particularly in the area of bourbon. Chuck's even has a drive-up window, for those on the go. Don't pass on this place just because you're worried about freshness of the beer stock. You'll find plenty here to pique your interest.

Chuck’s Wine and Spirits, Bowling Green, KY. Visited 11/7/18. Plenty of parking. This seems to be mainly a wine and liquor store that carries some beer. The right end (about 25%) of the space has some coolers and shelves with beer and soda. There was also a lot of coolers devoted to cases of BMC. There is also a small shelf with marked down old beer. I was primarily looking for local brews and the Spanish-speaking clerk had trouble with the concept. I did find some Alltech and West Sixth. Checking the dates on some IPAs, the freshest I found were six months old. In fact, checking some random inventory, I concluded the old beer shelf is not nearly big enough. And what criteria do they use for determining if it is outdated? Arctic Panzer Wolf on the room-temperature shelf was 14 months old. They have a decent selection of widely available brews but check every date! If possible, I’ll stop again on the way home and check some more dates.

I've stopped in Chuck's on the way between Lexington and Nashville several times. It is right off of the highway, which is convenient. If I still lived in TN near the KY line, I would make 3-4 trips per year just to seek out 3 Floyds, West Sixth, etc. The staff was friendly, but seemed less knowledgeable on the craft beer side. This is mostly a liquor store after all. Not too many singles of the 12oz. variety. Overall, I would check it out again - a solid craft beer spot

Good lord, that is a lot of beer. As was noted in another review, there are not all that many local/regional beers. That side of the menu is still on New Albanian, Bluegrass, Rivertown.
But there is a ton of stuff here overall. I think they had all of Sixpoints beers, from what I saw. A few FFF. Lots of Founders. If you are moving to the area and are looking for a regular spot, this would be it. Passing through and just want some local brews? This will also do.

P.S. I also picked up Popcorn Sutton's XXX Tennessee White Whiskey while I was here. And it was in a nicely sized mason jar.

I was really looking forward to stopping at Chuck's on my way through KY in order to pick up some local products from a BA rated 100 store. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Overall the selection was decent for a local place right off the highway but it lacked a good selection of locals. When I'm traveling through the states I like stopping at great liquor stores that have a wide selection of craft breweries that I can't get at home. I only saw a few locals (New Albanian, Kentucky) and even asked if I was missing anything and was told that that's all they had (in addition to some Hoppin' Frog). Some Founders, some ordinary sours but nothing really unusual.

I'd stop back on my way through again but my hopes wouldn't be so high based on the rating.

Chuck's is definitely my go-to beer (and bourbon) store. I'm lucky enough to live about 5 minutes away from here so I also get to be a beer mule for Titosupertramp in Nashville. It's always clean and well stocked. Like others have said, the locals have the real advantage because of all the great selections they have on tap for growler fills. They usually go pretty quickly though, so if you hear they have something you want, get there asap.

Blake and the crew there are incredibly knowledgeable about their products and love to talk about beer. It's refreshing to have someone with that much passion helping you pick out good brews.

Be sure to check out their sweet bar in the back by the tap. Ask Blake about it's history. Pretty cool if you are from around the area.

Well, I've been here a handful of times and thought it was high time I review this place.

This location is pretty large and open with plenty of room to move about with your shopping cart(I never thought I'd be one of those people who pushes around a buggy in a liquor store, but son of bitch, what do you know..things change). I wouldn't go so far as to say Chuck's is classy, but it's very clean, orderly and nice.

The quality/selection is almost always top notch and exciting because of the differences in the KY and TN beer markets. When coming to Chuck's, you'll find: Founders, Bells, Great Lakes, Three Floyds, Goose Island, a good amount of Belgians and growing number of sours.

One of the great things about Chuck's is you can break up any of the 4/6 packs for mixers. Also, I've never noticed anything out of date on the shelves which speaks to the good work of the staff.

If you go there while Blake(steamhead) is working, you'll be treated to good beer conversation, maybe a sample of what's on tap and a tour of the cooler where the kegs are kept. Man, does he have some badass stuff in that cooler.

As far as prices go, they're less expensive than pretty much anywhere here in Nashville. On comparable products, they tend to be a dollar or so cheaper.

In closing, Chuck's is my regular oasis for out of market beer and a place that I've had re-occuring dreams about...wish I was kidding.

Made the pilgrimage to Chuck's by way of visiting family in Nashville. Since I'm a south Floridian, was an a mission to find Founder's Breakfast Stout, and found Chuck's on BA. After calling ahead to make sure they had the beer, convinced (read; begged) the wife and sister to drive me up there in search of greatness.

Got to say, was not disappointed in any way. Selection was amazing (especially for a Floridian who never sees this stuff), store was clean, service was great (thanks, Blake!).

A very pleasant experience, would recommend this store to anyone in search of great beer.

There are more than a few beer stores in good ole Bowling Green, Kentucky but Chuck's is the best. The selection is as good as it gets for Kentucky. If you go, make sure you ask for Blake or Devin as they are very helpful and make superb recommendations. There may be other beer knowledgeable employees, but I don't know them so I can't comment. Also, the store has quite a bit of nice glassware at a very reasonable mark up when compared to brewery website prices. There is one tap chosen personally by Blake for growler fills. The other Chuck's in town has 4 taps, but they're usually not as good beers and a bit pricey.

Beer Manager Blake is super knowledgeable and is a great guy. Plenty of Craft beer, Belgium beers, huge selection of KY and TN Whiskey, Wine, and Liquors. Big aisle of craft beer and Belgiums. Huge aisle of TN and KY Spirits. Very large wine selection too. Closest place to Atlanta for Three Floyds products.

I stopped by this place on vacation due to all of the recommendations. I had the pleasure of meeting Blake, who is a true beer geek. This guy just LOVES beer. Very knowledgeable and nice. The selection was great. I walked out with quite a bit of beer for a little price. When I was there, Blake had tapped a 2010 keg of Old Ruffian and was selling growler fills for half price! I got a sneak peak of what was coming on tap next and I have to say, I am truly jealous of all the locals. He has some great stuff coming up. But I don't want to overshadow the selection with just their keg tappings. They had mostly everything I was looking for and even some stuff I wasn't! If your anywhere in this area (I drove an hour north from Nashville on vacation) I would really recommend stopping in. Its well worth the stop and I will be back sometime.

Chuck's is a great place. If you happen to live in Nashville, it's a mecca. The thing about Chuck's is, by itself it's pretty good. The selection is pretty good, nothing to blow you out of the water, but very well managed and put together with thought. Every beer that sits on the shelves at Chuck's is there because it ought to be. The beer demi-god that controls the brew world of Chuck's hand picks everything, and though there may be better stores in other markets, for what he has to work with Blake does a damn fine job. The growler station holds only one keg, and that's all it needs. That things pours some of the most ridiculous selections, from barrel-aged stouts to dark saisons and sours. Because Blake has not yet decided to replicate himself, to enjoy the full experience make sure he's working, it completely changes the atmosphere and makes a huge difference.

I finally made the hour and a half trip up to Chuck's after reading several glowing reviews about the place. I had a picture in my mind about "rows and rows" of beer. Did Chucks live up to the hype? Not really.
There was _one_ beer isle divided between imports and domestics craft beer.
While I was happy about some of the offerings such as Bells, Founders, Three Floyds and Great Lakes, that was the highlight. In the mix and match section there were plenty of duds like there is around here. Moreover, some of the prices were more expensive than locally. For example a Bomber of Sierra Nevada Pale ale was 3.99 and locally it's 2.89. Samuel Smith was more expensive by a dollar as well. I ended up getting 2 mix 6 packs a 4 pack and 2 singles for 42 bucks.
The service was non-existent. All the guys were engrossed in a Wheel of Fortune game on the TV and when I asked if I could get a goblet out of the glass case the guy told me to just pull on the side - 'it's open'.

My over all impression of this place is, if you are going to be driving through, stop and grab a couple of hard to get singles, but I wouldn't make the three hour round trip. Kind of a disappointment.

The staff is extremely helpful and will always recommend great beers. They have a wonderful selection and you can tell immediatly how much they care about their product and the craft industry as a whole. If you are looking for somewhere that cares about what you care about and provides good customer service, this is the place to go.

As recently stated from another reviewer, they carry a great selection of glassware from logo pints of your favorite brewery to fantastic tulips, all priced well. (Everybody needs a good glass to use, right?)

Good Job Chuck's!

OK, so Chuck's isn't much to look at from the outside, but that is in stark contrast to contents within. This is a great beer destination, to be sure.

My first visit was for a Goose Island tasting event that was very well done and educational. The store features tons of craft beer both on the shelves and in coolers. Many breweries that are not found in TN are available, including Bells, Founders, Three Floyds, Goose Island and Fantôme, to name a few. There's also quite a bit of nice glassware.

Blake (BA Steamhead) is the beer manager and is a great, generous guy. He obviously knows a lot about beer and is very good at helping you find beers that are both excellent and a fit for what you might like.

Growler fills are available as well. They seem to always have high-quality brews available on tap.

Tennessee has ridiculous beer laws. It also has very high liquor taxes. These two facts keep a lot of breweries from distributing to TN. This is illustrated plainly by taking a 60 mile drive North up I65 from Nashville to Bowling Green KY. Bells, Founders, Great Lakes, Goose Island, and Three Floyds are all available in KY but not TN, and Chuck's is a great spot to grab them all. My Hopslam, KBS, and Bourbon County Brand Stout fixes are cured yearly on their releases by an hour drive to the Bluegrass State. Chuck's is also a bit of an oasis in the desert for you sourheads out there. Cantillon, Fantome, Jolly Pumpkin, are all available there (and not here.) If you go ask for Blake (BA Steamhead). He knows a good beer (and a bad one) when he sees it, and is quick to answer any questions about their stock, future stock, or a particular beer.

This store is probably the best of the Chuck's Liqour Outlets in Bowling Green. They seem to have a bigger and better selection of craftbeer. Now that they allow people to "create their own" six packs makes it even better. Very friendly staff and they seem to understand the market for craftbeer. If they don't know the answer to some of my questions, they do their best to find out for me. They are starting to know me by name when I visit, which is a plus, and that makes each visit a little more personalble.

I was making a run up to Nashville for a few recent releases today and decided at the last minute to give Blake a shout to see if they had any Panzer Wolf left on the shelves... I've never been here before but after reading the rave reviews and seeing the positive comment about it on the forums, I couldn't pass it up. Blake assured me that they did and also mentioned that they had Cookie Jar Porter on the tap station.. That sealed it and northward I went...

Upon arrival, I was unprepared for the bounty that awaited inside. Fairly non-descript place that is uber convenient right off of I-65... Signs out front had deals on Coors and Miller Lite mentioned... Plenty of parking out front...

I grabbed a buggy and to the coolers I went... Shelf after shelf of different assortments of beer looked back at me... Three Floyds, Bells, Founders, Great Divide, New Holland, Clipper City, Schlafly, Goose Island... The list goes on and on... Several coolers packed full of an awesome variety... As I was browsing, Blake walks up and introduces himself and we proceed to kill an hour or so talking craft brews, likes, dislikes, etc... Its an awesome thing to find someone that loves good beer as much as I do and it made the experience that much better.. As we were talking, he mentions the Cookie Jar Porter from Brooklyn only to find that he took the liberty of filling one right before I got there... That's service...

There's a huge long aisle full of beer as well that featured things not in the cooler like Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, De Proef, De Ranke and several others... An amazing list of brews to say the least... Blake was super knowledgable and knows how to treat a customer for sure... He was even kind enough to show me their tap set ups...

I wound up purchasing a Girardin Black Label, a De Proef Signature w Tomme Arthur, a couple of FFF bombers, the growler of Cookie Jar and several other unbelievable items (and I mean awesome!) items while there and he even threw in a FFF pint...

Yep, I will be back to his place very very soon... It surpassed all my expectations and left me anticipating my next visit... A world class establishment for sure...

Q: From the outside, nothing special. Immediate inside appearance is nice. From right to left (facing inside), Wine, Beer, Liquor. Some nice liquors displayed in the front.

Svc: I didn't really have any questions, but there were enough employees on staff to help if it was needed. At the register, I also didn't have any discrepancies between the shelf price and the register price of anything. I had a lot by the time I got up there, so I was happy to see this.

S: First thing I found after winding through the people in the Wine section was the Belgian cooler. N'ice Chouffe 2008 (I've been looking for this year) x4. Sweet. The coolers and the shelves had about the same selections. The shelves had a little more, plus some 1.5L Big Chouffe 2010 ($20) and Piraat ($31). If I didn't already have both, I would've bought here. Nice Fantome selection....had some vintage label Noel's that I had no choice but to snag. Also had some glass/bottle gift sets that I haven't seen often. Micro selection was also impressive. There were some things that I can't find in Indiana or even in Northern Kentucky / Ohio, or have sold out in the last couple months (Bell's 25th and Batch 9000). There were a couple 3 Floyds that I can't even find in Indiana (for some stupid reason). Not the best selection in the world, but worthy of a solid A.

V: I thought that everything was reasonably priced or very well priced. $9.50 for my bottles of N'ice Chouffe 2008, $4.99 for my 2 bottles of Oak Aged Yeti (seriously, $4.99). My Chouffe gift set w/glass was $21 ($1 more than the other one I found a while back) and the 1.5 Piraat was $1 more than I found it for, but c'mon...$4.99 Oak Aged Yeti. I think the slightly over and slightly under on the pricing were all well rounded. If I remember correctly, all Chimay 750ml were $11.99, which is below average for the Blue label.

Overall: I recommend this place, hands down. If I take a step back and try to NOT consider the gems that I found and have been looking for, I have to say that this is one of the better Beer Stores that I've visited. It was a little smaller than the party supply stores up in Louisville/Lexington, but a very strong showing with the selection. I liked what I saw there better than the places that I made it to in Nashville, TN (final destination). I would say that if you are driving by and don't stop here, you are only hurting yourself....I mean it is RIGHT off the 65.

I was even more surprised to see Stone, Great Lakes and Three Floyds in Kentucky! We need to have these distribute to Missouri. I did see some Founders which was good since I love their Rye Beer.

Overall they have good quality with standard Belgians and good US micros. Service was non-existance aside form checkout.

Stellar store.

Quality is excellent - beer is all kept far away from any sort of sunlight, nice selection kept refrigerated, and I've never had a bottle from here that was anything but fresh. The staff told me the exact dates of multiple IPA's when asked without even looking, which is awesome.

Speaking of the staff, Blake (the beer guy, BA user name Steamhead) is absolutely top notch; he basically makes this store. Fantastic service, great knowledge, joy to talk to. Make the trip, but let him know you're coming - it'll be worth it.

Selection is also fantastic. If it's awesome and it makes it to Kentucky, you will find it here. Anything from GI, Great Lakes, Founders, Bells, 3F - it will be on the shelves, and prices will be reasonable.

A must-stop store if you're in the area. Holds up well with more well-known stops like Bruisin' Ales, Bierkraft, Charleston Beer Exchange, Stateline Liquors. Just a great, great store, that's a fantastic resource for anyone living in Nashville or nearby.

I drove here from Nashville to pick up beers from a variety of brewers we can't get here, such as Bell's, Great Lakes, Great Divide, and Founders. What's that say about Nashville that I have to drive to a city that's 10% the size just to pick up beers from these brewers?? It says a lot about our alcohol laws.

The selection was very good. Each beer in a 6 pack was available as a single. To me this is HUGE. I don't need 6 beers to decide if I like something...1 will suffice.

The quality is good as well, as I didn't find any beers that were expired. This is a lot more than I can say about other liquor stores unfortunately. This happens WAY too much. Clearly, they are turning their beer around fairly quickly.

The service?? Eh...average. Nobody talked to us or asked us if we needed help. Guy at the checkout was in a big time hurry.

All in all, worth a trip from Nashville.

So I go there and have the most amazing experience with every aspect of this place. Everyone that worked there was very helpful and personable. I give a special kudo's to Blake. I have been a total beer geek for 10+ years but Blake rocked my world with some of the beers he has turned me on to in the last 9 months. More specifically beers that when I drink them I cannot even fathom how they got that in a bottle!! The experience of some of these beers are superior to 100-200 dollar a bottle wines at only a fraction of the cost. I have also met other beer guys while shopping there which only made the experience better. Total hats off to Chucks and specifically Blake.

If you want to go and get some amazing beers and have great conversation with someone who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about beer and wine, do yourself a favor and go to Chucks and try to spend a little time there. Your enjoyment of beer and wine will be better for it. I look forward to getting back... as the hour drive has become more about going to chat beer and maybe share a great brew with a friend. Hats off to you all at Chuck's and a special thanks to Blake.

Today was the first time I ever took the hour drive from Nashville to Chuck's in Bowling Green. First of all, I was blown away by their selection. TN just can't compare. Don't get me wrong, TN has been stepping it up and bringing in better beers but this place completely dominates.
It wasn't even a bad drive at all! I walked in, not knowing what the hell to expect, and walked out with Hopslam, Founders Breakfast Stout, Goose Island BCS, Brooklyn Chocolate Stout, FFF's Dreadnaught and Behemoth, Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous, and Bell's Batch 9000 and Founder's Nemesis!
Blake, who is also a fellow BA (Steamhead) really hooked it up and helped me out a lot. He was offering me so many great beers but I had only so much money!!

I have made about 6 trips so far and the first time was like walking into the pearly gates of heaven. I was bowled over by the selection and how well they keep their beers up to date. Prices are way lower than in TN too. There are only a couple of brewers they don't have that we have. Oskar Blues, Terrapin, Victory and Sweetwater come to mind but that is probably it. The beer guy Blake is very helpful and can help you with a mixed sixer. Even when it comes to brewers you can get in TN they will still have some of their beers we don't see. They drive ain't so bad either.

I was on the seach for some Three Floyds around the southern middle Indiana are (going skiing and southern Indiana is well known for their world class resorts. /sarcasm) and just happened to check this place out on the way from TN. Holy crap was I not disappointed! I found a pretty good selection: Alpha King, Dreadnaight, Broo Doo, Behemoth and Black Sun. Some other reviewers have done a good job of listing the other brewers they carry, so I won't clog up this review with the other recycled names. About the only thing missing is a more extensive selection of Belgian beers. I plan on hitting this place again next time I plan on being in the Nashville area because at one hour away, it's worth the drive.

So I decided to take a little day trip up into Kentucky and visit Chuck's Wine & Spirits in Bowling Green. A number of people had suggested checking them out and I had read the reviews on Beer Advocate. I was a little hesitant to drive that distance without knowing some particulars about their stock but their website was very basic with little information apart from a simplistic beer guide. I sent a query via their "Contact" tab but never heard back.

When you enter there is a wall that you have to walk around which makes the store appear smaller than it actually is. As I rounded the corner I thought, "Damn this place is dark." It's like a small grocery store with half the lighting. And by "grocery store" I mean an actual grocery store, not a mini-mart - this place is a decent size. I had no idea where to go so I headed towards the back where I could see cooler doors.

Whoa. St. Bernardus, Maredsous, Duvel, Great Divide, Bell's...door after door. I have to admit I was impressed but hoped there was an aisle as well.

Um, yeah there was an aisle. I stopped cold. Wow. This was awesome! It must have taken me 10 minutes to walk the aisle on my first pass as I took in all the beer. I immediately walked to the front of the store and requested a cart!

They really have a nice selection of higher ABV, at least based on what I'm used to in Nashville. I would say that they do fall behind a bit on the lower ABV compared to some of the better stores I've been in. However, I'm more of a Belgian afficionado so that isn't my specialty. I didn't write down everything they had, but I'll give a little list of what I can remember. Unibroue, Great Divide, Great Lakes, Bell's, Founders, Thirsty Dog, Arcadia, Sierra Nevada, Mikkeller, Haandbryggeriet, Weihenstephaner, Chimay, Rochefort, Westmalle, Orval, Achel, St. Bernardus, Stone, Ommegang, Boulevard, Schlafly, Fuller's, J.W. Lees, Samuel Smith, Rogue...and a ton more (including whatever shitty beer you might need to pick up for your grandpa).

I wound up browsing for a good 45 minutes as there was just so much to see.

I'll definitely be returning to Chuck's. It's a nice drive, a nice selection and there are beers I just can't get in Tennessee.

Chuck's has 4 locations in the Bowling Green area, but from what I've read this is the best location to hit for beer.

Was in tennesse yesterday and asked a few people on the south forums about getting some brews. Since I was really close to the border of kentucky they suggested to go in to bowling green.
I looked on here and seen chuck's .
I decided to go here after finding out they had bell's, goose island, great lakes , and alot of stone.

They also had clipper city, alot of Belgium beers, boulder, bluegrass, flying dog wild dog series and gonzo, Brooklyn, and several others

I had a cart full after the first round and was hard pressed to put back any. (it would not all fit in to checked baggagr @ airport) While I was there I was asked 3 times by 3 different people if I needed help and 2 of them commented me on my selection of great beers. I asked one of them several questions about other beer they did not have like hop slam and he said he has been trying to get if for 2 months.
They also had beer advocate rating on their shelfs for highly rated beers. Thought that was neat.

Anyways was impressed with their service and the selection is what I was expecting after the beerfly reviews.

Oh the reason for the bit pricey tag is their oaked arrogant was 17.99 for a sixer. Online everywhere else its 14.99

Took a short trip to Bowling Green and stopped by here after a stop at Greenwood.

Big place and a real nice wine selection. Beers are in a long cooler along the back wall and a couple of rows on the far side from where you enter. About 2/3 BMC and 1/3 micros/imports. Very nice selection but nobody around to ask any questions to. I picked up some Great Lakes, DFH WWS, and a few Stone bombers. Price seemed a little steep for the bombers.

Overall, a nice place with a good selection. Would be nice to have somebody to bounce some questions off of if need be though.

Update: Dropped in last week and talked to the beer/wine guy Blake. Dude knows his stuff and made some excellent recommendations. He also mentioned that they would be willing to build a few six-packs if you let him know ahead of time. The make your own six pack was the main reason I would go to Greenwoods over Chucks, but now that I know this Chucks will certainly be my main stop.

Chucks in Bowling Green was a very nice surprise right outside the dry county of Simpson and the what seems like a dry state of Tennessee.

While they did not have everything I would have liked to see, the selection was amazing for the area, and the prices were also a very nice surprise.

I bought Bells Expedition for $9.99. I have never seen it that cheap. I was still able to find Blackout stout and it was under $7! The selection of Bells and Great Lakes which has been noted before I have confirmed as being awesome.

They still have Stone 06 epic and RIS too.

If I even have to come back to this area, I know where I am stopping.

EDIT: Not sure why it took me this long, I guess I was just re-reading some old reviews. It seems when I was here last time, their beer guy must not have been. Blake has done amazing things up here in BG, I wish I could stop in much more than I am able to.

Nice store. Reminds me of a mini version of the larger Liquor Barn stores found in Lexington and Louisville. Well organized and attractive beer selection featuring the Kentucky microbreweries and a large number of national craft breweries. Brent has already described many of the selections available here, but I was impressed with the solid lineup of British brews. The German selection is also impressive. Lots of Stone, Bells, Dogfish Head, Rogue, and several smaller micros are well represented. The day of my visit(December 26, 2006) they had at least a case of Bells Hopslam still on hand. Highly recommended if you're passing through Bowling Green.
