Pours black, (SRM-36) with a ¼” creamy chestnut head that turns rocky rather quickly. Tinny bubbles of carbonation form columns within the Offero Glass, while rings of lace frost the walls, and a light viscus film builds.

The aroma is filled with chocolate syrup, while deep roasted malt plays off molasses. Rum infused chocolate and light peat become apparent as this one warms.

Roasted malt is a major theme, with sweetness and moderate roasted bitterness in the background. Baker’s chocolate with lactose and vanilla hold the middle ground, giving way to a long modest building finish. Warmth releases a fair amount of sweetness.

Warming alcohol is punctuated by soft carbonation, while the full, almost dense chewy body coats the palate with syrupy sweetness.

This bottle was aged about six to nine months, and proved an excellent accompaniment while reading on a rare, sunny Spring afternoon.

Pours nearly jet black with a great looking one finger deep beige head that leaves multiple broken rings of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.Aromas of dark fruit dipped in alcohol and espresso roast coffee, the alcohol is pretty big.Sweet molasses and charred dark fruit flavors mixed with a good shot of vanilla spiced alcohol, almost like a spiced rum but with a drying roasted finish.A solid RIS from a brewery that for me just kicks ass.Maybe if I lived in the northwest this brewery's wares would be more ho hum for me but as somewone on the east coast i want more of their stuff!

22 oz bottle. Pours dark black brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roasted grains, chocolate and some black licorice.

The flavor is roasted black patent malts, some sweet chocolate, black licorice, vinous alcohol and lots of acidic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, an OK imperial stout.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle at about 65F.

Appearance: Pours deep red-brown but sit black and opaque in the glass. Large creamy tan head. Decent retention; excellent lacing.

Smell: intriguing and lightly sweet with loads of dark and chocolate malts.

Taste: Slightly better than the smell? Coffee; bitter chocolate; herbal hops; medium bitterness; lingering black coffee and burnt toast with a tad too much char.

Mouthfeel: Full, thick body; low-moderate amount of soft carbonation. Creamy smooth.

Overall: Exceptional cross between a RIS and a Black IPA with well hidden alcohol.

22 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating
$6.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes: Typical appearance. Average head retention and lacing, especially for an Imperial stout. Aroma offers a pleasant fruitiness, dark chocolate, a suggestion of anise, some cold black coffee... and perhaps more if you look, but it's not bold and brash. Mainly what I find is fruitiness. The flavor follows with perhaps some added molasses, but the same remains true, that it's not bold and brash, although it is big (but not particularly malty), and perhaps a touch brash - but at 9.5% ABV that's to be expected. Hops? Not really, they're present but "background", a bit grassy and herbal. I am not finding the 100 IBUs listed on the label, however, although that's a good thing as I don't think the malt could stand up to it. I'd guess it's more in the 80's range. Would I buy it again? Certainly, there's nothing wrong with it. At the same time, it doesn't really stand out as anything special.

Pours two fingers of tan head on a black body. Beautiful.
The aroma is rich molasses, caramel and roasted malt. Really nice.
The taste is deep. Molasses, burnt wood, a little earth, roasted malt, lemon bitterness towards the end. Excellent profile and balance.
The texture is thick with low carbonation.
Outstanding.

Enjoyed in a 10 ounce schooner. Pours the color of dark raisins, with a slight tan head. Smells of dark leather, blackstrap molasses, carbon. Very chewy. Decent mouthfeel. At the front, tastes of bittersweet chocolate and in the middle, carbon--almost like slightly burned toast. A little bit of licorice at the end. Does not taste as strong as it is.

Awesome blackish color with light touches of deep brown. Head is decent at 1-2 fingers and lacing is spotty and loose. Aromas of sweet sugar, malt, coffee and grain. Taste is similar with flavors of hops, heavily roasted coffee beans, some bittersweet chocolate and toasted bread crust. Finish is fairly clean for this bold beer, with a bit of roast coffee and hops lingering on the palate. Overall, balance is ok, but not great. Flavors have just a touch of a problem meshing like they should..
