Pours nearly jet black with a great looking one finger deep beige head that leaves multiple broken rings of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.Aromas of dark fruit dipped in alcohol and espresso roast coffee, the alcohol is pretty big.Sweet molasses and charred dark fruit flavors mixed with a good shot of vanilla spiced alcohol, almost like a spiced rum but with a drying roasted finish.A solid RIS from a brewery that for me just kicks ass.Maybe if I lived in the northwest this brewery's wares would be more ho hum for me but as somewone on the east coast i want more of their stuff!

22 oz bottle. Pours dark black brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roasted grains, chocolate and some black licorice.

The flavor is roasted black patent malts, some sweet chocolate, black licorice, vinous alcohol and lots of acidic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, an OK imperial stout.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle at about 65F.

Appearance: Pours deep red-brown but sit black and opaque in the glass. Large creamy tan head. Decent retention; excellent lacing.

Smell: intriguing and lightly sweet with loads of dark and chocolate malts.

Taste: Slightly better than the smell? Coffee; bitter chocolate; herbal hops; medium bitterness; lingering black coffee and burnt toast with a tad too much char.

Mouthfeel: Full, thick body; low-moderate amount of soft carbonation. Creamy smooth.

Overall: Exceptional cross between a RIS and a Black IPA with well hidden alcohol.

Pours two fingers of tan head on a black body. Beautiful.
The aroma is rich molasses, caramel and roasted malt. Really nice.
The taste is deep. Molasses, burnt wood, a little earth, roasted malt, lemon bitterness towards the end. Excellent profile and balance.
The texture is thick with low carbonation.
Outstanding.

Enjoyed in a 10 ounce schooner. Pours the color of dark raisins, with a slight tan head. Smells of dark leather, blackstrap molasses, carbon. Very chewy. Decent mouthfeel. At the front, tastes of bittersweet chocolate and in the middle, carbon--almost like slightly burned toast. A little bit of licorice at the end. Does not taste as strong as it is.

Funny, this is the one I wanted, and oddly enough it is like Stormbringer and Old Heathen had an offspring. Pours a thick dark black with a deep tan head and a nice thick head that dissipates to clinging lacing. Smell of black strap molasses, chocolate, coffee, and booze. Taste is dark chocolate up front with the coffee. Molasses to the sides and aftertaste. Thick rich mouthfeel, with the alcohol and 100 IBU (!?!?!) well hidden. Medium bittering hops in the aftertaste. SOLID. Meaty, beefy, BIG, and bouncy. Interesting. Very nice for the stout drink, for which I am. Cheers/

22oz. Black pour, half finger of very light tan. Retained well enough.

Aroma, quite herbal and piney. Anise, bakers chocolate. Some roast, reminiscent of some black ipas.

Taste, definetely on the hoppier side. Some roast malt. More anise. Dark chocolate. Herbal/piney finish. Maybe a little coffee.

Mid body, carbonation was fine for me. Drinks quite easy. Hides the abv well. Just a little dry. Would like more malt and sweetness, but his was still good. Kind of like Coronados RIS or Black Flag.

A: dark with a tinge of red. Small bubbles leaving little-to-no head.

S: molasses. Roasty. Toasty.

T: roasted barley. Molasses. Sweet. Chocolate. Slight bitterness at the end.

M: medium carbonation. Thick. Big body. Oprah in a string bikini.

O: I can't believe this has 95 IBU's. Well balanced between the malty sweetness, alcohol and hops (?). Good imperial stout.

A: pours black with a finger of tan head that fades into a thin cap with a little lacing.

S: roasted malts with semi-sweet chocolate, creamy coffee, and notes of smoke and char.

T: roasted malts hit here as well with bitter dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, and a decent kick of char and smoke. The finish is moderately bitter and roasted.

M: thick body with carbonation on the lower side of moderate, which goes with the bitterness well.

O: a solid imperial stout overall, though a little on the bitter side for me, and I normally prefer the more bitter, roasted stouts. Still, quite enjoyable.

Foamy looking light brown head... a little short lived.. okay lacing.. the brew is black, but appears a little thin.

Smell is also a bit thin... dark roasted malts with a pretty pronounced hoppiness for the style, doesn't seem to be enough residual malt backbone to carry the big players.

Flavor pretty much mirrors the aromas... dark/astringent malt with little chocolate/residual sweetness... bitterness from the hops combines with the bitter malts and makes it seem a little one dimensional...

Body is light for the style... medium with a sorta prickly carbonic bite.

Okay for sure... especially given the lower price and approachable 12oz bottle... but I had higher hopes I guess.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours pitch black, completely opaque in the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, coffee and a hint of chocolate, leaning in character to an export style stout. Flavor starts with rich chocolate and toasted malt with a hint of char, then thins out to reveal licorice and coffee notes, finishing with charred malt and coffee, light grassy hops. Medium bodied. The flavor progression seemed weak when the tasted, but the overall variety of charred and roasted malt flavors won me over as I drank this stout. It may be a bit thinner in flavor than other high octane imperial stouts, but covers all the bases and is quite satisfying on the charred malt end of the AIS spectrum. An enjoyable stout.
