Labeled as Unknown Shore for the US market.
Batch number: NK 006. Best before: 3/12/16.
Pours a murky dark reddish-orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, brown sugar, dark fruit, and grape juice aromas. Taste is much the same with burnt toast, dark fruit, earth, and yeast flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid aromas and flavors, but I am not getting any of the French oak chips this one was supposedly aged on.
Serving type: bottle.

"Unknown Shore" Oak Dubbel import label.
Dark reddish brown, nice clarity visible in the light. Initial finger of tan foam, spotty flecks of lace.
Aroma is pretty nice, fruity esters of plum and caramelized bananas. Nutty and sweet, dried dark fruits and caramelized sugars.
Taste falls short of the aroma, sort of thin and overly dry and oaky. Carbonation ebbs away quickly and it falls apart. Malty and oaky, light raisin and almond flavors. Overall it didn't really deliver based on the great aroma. Oh well, it was $3.49 for a 750...

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Imported as "Unknown Shore". Pours a very hazy orange brown with a half finger khaki head that dissipates to a patchy film, leaving good lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, oak, brown sugar and dark dried fruit. Flavor malty with biscuit and caramel dominating, dark dried fruit, lighter hints of slightly tart fresh dark fruit, wood, brown sugar; finishes with drier earthy and woody malt and a bitter herbs. Medium bodied with good carbonation. The profile of Unknown Shore is much more similar to an old ale or Scottish ale, but with more finishing bitterness. There are almost no Belgian notes in the yeast, malt or spicing. As a malty dark ale, it has a lot of interesting flavors, but the finish is a bit too earthy, woody and bitter to be supported by the malt body. Oddest dubbel I've tried, but drinkable as a malty, woody ale.
