When you are bouncing around the pubs and bars on Monroe Ave., make sure you hit Acme Bar and Pizza. It's the place to go when you feel the need for a slice and a good beer. They have a small, yet decent rotating selection of micros. If you had a beer there once before, chances are that beer will have been replaced by another micro by the next time you come back. I think this is one of the more fun aspects of the place. The service is great. I waited 5 minutes longer than they said I would wait and got my large pixxa for half the price. The people who hang out there are pretty cool also. Good place to go and just chill with a few friends.

Acme Bar and Pizza, one of my favorites on Monroe Avenue.

The two big pulls here are the prices and the selection. Simply the cheapest craft beer bar that I've been to. Great specials every day- the best being 11-7pm every day is 2 for 1 on most everything, excluding bombers, top shelf liquors and 3 of 15 or so taps. These three excluded taps are usually specialty or high gravity beers (Stone Enjoy By, Stone 17th, Bitches Brew, etc). When you get a 2 for 1 drink, they give you a token that you can redeem at any time, even after 7pm or a completely different day. Coming for one o clock football games, I got an arsenal of tokens to bring back Friday nights and essentially drink for free, excluding tips.

Thursdays is pitcher night- any pitcher of beer (excluding the 3 above mentioned taps) for $8. $8 pitchers of Founders Harvest and Long Trail Limbo made me quite happy.

The selection is great, Jack's Abby, Otter Creek, Stone, Dogfish Head, Lagunitas, Harpoon, Ithaca, Southern Tier, Genesee, even some Belgians sometimes, Unibroue, etc. Always something palatable. The cooler bottle selection is pretty wide as well. Even aside from the great specials, the beer itself is never that expensive.

The food is great, but greasy as all hell. The pizza is my favorite in Rochester, and the cajun tots are also a favorite. The sweet and sour acme wings are very tasty too.

There are a few downsides- the place is slightly dingy, and the bathrooms are vile. The service can usually be pretty lacking. They don't always have enough bartenders, and a lot of them can be disinterested. Table service is sometimes better as they have a "waitress" who comes around and takes order and who is generally pretty nice.

Despite the knocks on atmosphere above, I still think the place has a great vibe. Fun people usually go, not very pretentious place, good jukebox, sort of a palatable dive bar feel.
Worth a stop for sure.

Great botte selection! Subpar service, guy was rude and didnt know what a pale ale was. The pizza is sooo good, thin and floppy and very very tasty. BOGO for happy hour everyday. Good place to hit with friends for a pool game or buckhunter. Quickdraw and pretty girls. I will return.

I was in Rochester only for a day to audition at the Eastman School of Music and I looked up places to go for beer in the area. I went to Acme first- it was a Friday night and pretty packed. It was a little divey but I thought it was pretty fun. A lot of locals and some out of towners also- they had a few big TVs so I sat at the bar and watched a basketball game while I drank a Rogue Santa's Private Reserve for $2.50 (!) and St. Bernardus Christmas Ale on tap for $5. They have really great deals every day and lots of good stuff on tap (they have about 10-15). A good selection of bottles as well with a mix of domestic, import, and local beers. Unfortunately, they have very limited glassware despite having so many good beers, so I was drinking my Belgian Strong Dark Ale out of a weird glass that seemed to be for water (certainly not a wide-mouthed wine glass, tulip, or snifter). However, that is easily overlooked when taking into account that this bar has a great selection and good prices. Definitely a fun place to check it if you're in Rochester.

I like Acme a lot. I have been going there (mainly on Sundays) since it opened many years ago.

Super diverse crowd of drunks, college, business people, bikers(motor and pedal), and alternative.
you never know who you will see here.

The food selections is bar grub but the food is above average. the thin crust pizza is great and the burgers are very good. Love the wings and the Tater tots. Yum.

The beer selection is always decent. I can always find something in bottle or on tap that i like. It's the perfect place to bring a friend who is not into craft beer because I can get the good stuff and they can get the yellow fizzy stuff.

Bathrooms are very very scary. Just ask my wife.

A Sunday staple.

Wow.

Atmosphere here leaves something to be desired - very dark, hole-in-the-wall, drown your sorrows kind of feeling to the place. Never been a fan of the style.

Ordered up a slice of pizza to go with my beer, and I got a decent slice of thin crust that had very little grease. Just the way I like it.

But the real selling point here is the beer. Every day, until 7 or 8, is 2-for-1 on every tap in the place. I hear the selection rotates often; on my visit I found two offerings from Troegs, as well as DFH, Victory, Arcadia, and a few others that are slipping away. And the cool thing I learned about two-for-one: you can bring back that little "free drink" token they give you whenever you want. So if you feel like popping in for a quick pint, just pay full price, drink your beer, and take off. Now, next time you come in...FREE BEER!

Every day, they offer rotating specials from 8pm-1am. Mondays, it's still just 2-for-1. Thursdays are $6.50 pitchers of everything on tap. Tuesdays are easily my favorite - $1.50 for all pints. Yep. While I was out of town, they had Nugget Nectar on tap. $1.50 pints of NN on that Tuesday night.

The service is nothing special, but I never felt like I was being ignored. The tap selection isn't the largest ever (maybe 10-12 at most), but what they did have was terrific. There's a large assortment of bottles too, though, so as long as you're not too picky about where the beer comes from, you've got a lot to choose from.

This is going to become a very, very regular joint for me.

This is a pretty cool place to hang and drink some good beer. Typical mixed bar crowd - twenties & thirties. Pool table in the rear, and outside enclosed smoking area.
Service isn't the best (I guess it depends on the night - I had the same bartender on my first few visits, I'm told there are better).
Selection is great for such a small place. Inventory turns over rapidly so the freshness is there. From one week to the next almost every tap handle is different. Good bottle selection and excellent prices on imports and craft beers. Great draft & well specials on select nights.
Pizza is delicious and affordable. Quality reminds me of a NYC pizzeria.
Parking totally blows in that there isn't any at all!
