A: The beer is quite hazy yellowish orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a collar around the edge and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose along with notes of mangos.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and has flavors of citrusy hops—grapefruit stand out in particular—along with notes of mangos and other tropical fruits as well as some hints of pine. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and quite crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tasted very fresh and had nice bold aromas and flavors from the blend of four hops that were used. It was also quite drinkable and hid its alcohol very well.

A-Pours an attractive, divine orange. Tiny pieces of particulate lazily hover and dip in the glass. Head is a frothy, dense cap of gooey goodness. Generous lacing.

S-A moderately intense bouquet of tropical, fruity hoppiness. Bravo, Chinook, Galaxy and Mosaic hops deliver the goods. Mangos! Screw the super bitter, one dimensional brews; I'll take the complex, fruit basket-hop beers any day. I also get sweet dough, pineapples, apricots and melon. Elite aroma, above average intensity.

T-Is this Long Trail? It's got a load of tropical, sweet hops. I enjoy the intensity here more than he nose but overall, the nose is a bit more exciting. This is still pretty darn tasty. A little bit of bubblegum. Sweet, soggy, caramel bread. Really enjoying the hoppiness here.

M-Soft carbonation. Slightly resiny. Medium bodied. Almost cask-like. Medium bitterness; the sheer fruitiness of the hops almost masks it's sneaky bitterness.

O/D-Long Trail's best beer. The nose was better than the flavor but all things considered, this is an upper echelon IPA. Six pack is a bit pricey but I would be stupid not to have tried it once.

Limbo pours a clear copper color in the glass with a moderate sized head. The foam fades quickly leaving behind a coating of lace on the glass.

The aroma is loaded with grapefruit and orange citrus, pine, peach, and tropical fruit (mango). Some dark bread malt notes are also present.

Each sip of this medium to full bodied beer is slightly chewy, syrupy with moderate carbonation. The aroma carries into the flavor. Grapefruit and pine, orange, tropical fruits are balanced by caramel, rye bread and sweet malt. Peppery spice appears near the end. It finishes bitter and grassy. Once gone the grapefruit, tropical fruit and bread notes linger on the palate.

Limbo reminds me a little bit of Sierra Nevada Celebration. Lots of hops with a nice sweet malt balance. Very tasty and easily drinkable.

12 oz bottle poured into an imperial pint.
7.6% ABV, 80 IBUs

A - Stead carbonation circulates the hazy particles floating through this turbid golden beer while maintaining it's lofty ivory head. Sticky lace dots the glass in thin rings.

S - Boastful tropical fruits invade the olfactory with juicy pineapple, mango, and cantaloupe subsiding into a smooth caramel malt base. Give the beer a good swirl and the profile changes; it's big dry-hopped profile suddenly awakens a rubbery new kickball aroma.

T - Earthy, spice-forwards, Limbo's tropical fruit overtones become more of a nuance in the taste as the beer shifts to a bitter guava, grapefruit and oaky finish. It's sharp, spicy finish is counteracted by underlying sweet malts.

M - 80 IBUs doesn't seem too large for this well-rounded beer. Sure, the finish is bitter and dry from the hops but the body is medium and smooth with a well-carbonated texture, perfect for a food pairing!

O - Long Trail's Limbo IPA features a powerful profile of spicy, tropical fruit imparted by the hops, which teeters on the edge of perfection and too much with it's rubbery, slightly overly hopped undertones. The balance is just right - any more hops and it would be too much but, I can't say I could see myself drinking more than one of these potent IPAs, though it would go great with a pub burger or spicy buffalo wings!

Served from a 12oz bottle into an Alchemist Will Becher glass.

Appearance- Hazy orangeish/red with quick half finger head that didn't last long. Some nice lacing remains though.

Smell- Fruity NZ hops, fresh cut grass, floral notes. Peaches, tangerines, nectarines, green grapes are all present in aromas.

Taste- Piney, grassy hops up front fading into fruit forward hops. Nice light bitterness at the end which lingers with the fruit. No booze taste, just clean hops with a very light malt backbone.

Mouthfeel- Medium carbonation, with medium viscosity and bitterness. Easy to drink and crisp and clean on the finish. No hint of the 7.6% abv.

Overall- A real nice IPA from a brewery I generally overlook.

Bottled 12/23/13 - so its just over 2 weeks - pretty fresh.
Poured into tulip. Slight amber color with a bit of lacing a thin head. Nice fresh pungent hop - pine and a bit of sugary sweetness with a nice dose of caramel malt. Really nice. Pine and resin flavor are right up front with a big caramel and maltiness which really balances the whole brew. Its really easy to drink with a nice full mouthfeel. Overall a great IPA - bordering on double - but a well balanced and drinkable brew nonetheless. Well worth the relatively low cost at around $8/4pack.
