Pours bronze color with hearty white foam. Good duration. Bright malty nose, small citrus but buried. Light malty taste, citrus rind, hint of pepper that grows. Little bite. Pepper is a poor substitute. Works for spring I guess, but not great.

I am still deeply mired in my bottle backlog, but at least, I have made it up to the Spring seasonals at this point. It may seem obvious, but for this one, I am playing Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On" as accompaniment.

From the bottle: "Kolsch-style"; "When Spring awakens and the zest for adventure returns, on we ramble."; "A taste of Vermont [-] Spring seasonal"; "Ale brewed with spices [-] with a hint of lemon & pepper"; "wandering but not lost."

Hey, that's my motto! Oh well, time for a pour to begin this Ramble. Once again, a heavy-handed pour leads to a pseudo-cascade, which eventually settled into two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was like liquid sunshine in the glass (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. This is a beautiful beer, but it would be much more uplifting during a cold, dreary day in the Winter. Nose was kind of odd. I got the lemon and the pepper, but there seemed to be more to it than just that. There was a grassiness or newly mown hay aspect to it, also. Mouthfeel was medium and the taste was prevalently of pepper, although lemon was in the mix. I remain curious about the "spices", since I really could not discern them. Is pepper being considered a spice for their purposes? Finish was dry, lemony at first and then with a peppery tingle on the swallow. I could see taking this along to a Chinese restaurant that allows BYOB and I will make a plug here for Tony Wang's on Route 30 East, here in Lancaster County.

A: Clean pale orange with a medium sense of carbonation that was quickly paced. Eggshell white head, slight in size, had a sudsy like covering. Short retention, minimal lacing.

S: Aroma was fresh bread with a hint of fruity melon and lemon pepper seasoning. Some apple fruitiness, sweet and juice like scent with a soft level of delivery.

T: Sweet apple fruitiness with some lemon-pepper spicing. Melon, spicy hopping with a peppery frutiness. The malting was crisp, with a sweet, juicy wet fruitiness.

M: Creamy avocado like texture for the mouthful, spicy, crisp good show of carbonation.

O: Overall has a nice deal of peppery fruitiness and spicy hopping, wet and fruity nature, above average hopping for style. Crisp and flavorful, ideal summer drink that is very easy to down in multiples. Kolsch is a hard style to impress and stand out in, this bends tradition but in a good way.
