12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Very clean and pale, decent lacing. Lemon pith and peppercorn in the nose with a dry biscuity maltiness. On the dry side so the level of hop bitterness is more than enough. Hints of lemon and spicy pepperiness as well as and herbal hop tone linger a little while on the palate.

Good drinking here but it seems more of a lunch time beer rather than one to knock back a few.

Pours bronze color with hearty white foam. Good duration. Bright malty nose, small citrus but buried. Light malty taste, citrus rind, hint of pepper that grows. Little bite. Pepper is a poor substitute. Works for spring I guess, but not great.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet (bottle date 1/14/14)

A: Light blonde with a bit of lacing, no head and just a bit hazy.

S: Not much of any distinguishable smells here for me. It just smells like what I think of as "beer", basically the nameless mass quantity stuff.

T: Earthy and a bit farmhouse. Some yeast to it. Decent enough. Just your standard fare to me.

M: Prickly but no real feel of bubbles at all, just rough.

O: This can't be only the second Kolsch that I've rated/reviewed on here (the first being Sprocket Bier). I know that I've had Kolschs (what is the plural of Kolsch?) before, but I guess I haven't put them in on here. It is good enough, but that Sprocket Bier really had me impressed.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on April 4, 2014.

It pours golden yellow with a short-lived white head. Aroma of pale malts, corn, rice, and thin hops. Nothing extraordinary but nothing bad.

Body is light to medium.

Taste has a good pale malt character and a weird sort of meaty fruitiness than I cannot define. Dry finish.

A: Clean pale orange with a medium sense of carbonation that was quickly paced. Eggshell white head, slight in size, had a sudsy like covering. Short retention, minimal lacing.

S: Aroma was fresh bread with a hint of fruity melon and lemon pepper seasoning. Some apple fruitiness, sweet and juice like scent with a soft level of delivery.

T: Sweet apple fruitiness with some lemon-pepper spicing. Melon, spicy hopping with a peppery frutiness. The malting was crisp, with a sweet, juicy wet fruitiness.

M: Creamy avocado like texture for the mouthful, spicy, crisp good show of carbonation.

O: Overall has a nice deal of peppery fruitiness and spicy hopping, wet and fruity nature, above average hopping for style. Crisp and flavorful, ideal summer drink that is very easy to down in multiples. Kolsch is a hard style to impress and stand out in, this bends tradition but in a good way.
