Style | ABV
English India Pale Ale (IPA) |  5.90% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Real India Pale Ale (IPA), as it was first brewed in the days of the British Empire, was not the carefully filtered brew that we call IPA beer today. The first IPAs were unfiltered and featured extra hops and higher strength as a preservative for the long trip from England to the colony of India. Our Traditional IPA ale is naturally carbonated, dry-hopped & unfiltered like the old days.

While there's a little bite to this IPA, it is not a particularly robust or hoppy entry into the American micro market, which makes it most decidedly an English IPA. It pours a light orange amber. The aroma has some citrus and hops, but it is fairly light. The taste is undistinguished: fluttering malts, a touch of hops, with some lemon and pine in the background and offset by mellow carbonation. Smooth and drinkable, but thin.

look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a nice head; quite a few strands of lace line the glass on the way down

Smell: Citrusy grapefruit with a hint of biscuit

Taste: Biscuity, up front, with a quick shift to the grapefruity hops; clean finish, with a lean to the bitter and fruity side

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Either the recipe has changed or there are a lot of old bottles out there but this beer is surprisingly good when fresh; I wouldn't spin it as an English IPA given the flavor of the hops in my sample but it definitely leans toward the East Coast with the balance factor

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Cloudy yellow orange with a finger of soapy whtie head, medium thick lacing.
S - Sweet grainy bread malt, pine, citrus, a little orange juice. Basic
T - Big bread and cracker malt, semi sweet corn tones, grain, light grass and a little orange or even tangerine.
M - Very drinkable, clean and to the point.
O - Decent IPA, better than I remember, I could easily down a few of these on a hot day.
