Notes/Commercial Description:
This malty, full-bodied double alt is also known as “Stickebier” – German slang for “secret brew”. Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a chalice

Appearance - dark copper color with 1 finger of white head

Smell - toffee, caramel, dark cherries, whole grain bread

taste - toffee, caramel, malts, whole grains

mouthfeel - medium bodied, ample carbonation, slightly sweet, slight bitterness on the finish, good hearty beverage on a cool night without necessarily being too heavy

overall - this is a really good example of the Altbier style, readily available and affordable, I would love to drink more of this

Price point - single purchased for $1.79

Pours a dark brown/amber with a copper head. Leads to a bit of lacing.

Smells of roasted grain, caramel malts, a touch of honey, and faint floral hops.

Taste is heavy on malts and cereal grain with a moderate offering of fresh hop bitterness. Honey and some molasses flavors offer an even sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden.

Nice body and very drinkable despite ABV

Cool sticke!

A: Deep amber in color. Clear. Forms a small off-white head that doesn't bother sticking around for long.

S: Lots of sweet caramel malt and some light floral hops.

T: Caramel malts, butterscotch. Moderately sweet. Floral on the finish.

M: Medium body. Appropriate carbonation. Very mild bitterness.

O: A better than decent beer, though I'll admit I'm not entirely familiar with the style or the sub-style.
