This malty, full-bodied double alt is also known as “Stickebier” – German slang for “secret brew”. Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

On tap. Pours a clear deep orange hue with a sticky and creamy bright white head with excellent lacing and head retention.

Full and creamy mouthfeel with very concentrated and well blended flavors. deep complexity, notes of toffee and caramel, a touch of phenolics, some dark fruit, enough floral hop bitterness to make the finish clean and dry. Not a touch of detectable alcohol which is impressive. My standard go to beer at my local watering hole since they have it on tap. Good stuff.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a vibrant, bright, crisp, orange-copper coloring with a bit of filmy head on the pour that disappears almost instantly, leaving behind a ring of film around the edge of the surface. Caramel and toffee aromas richly sweeten the slight toasting on the nose. Flavors are rich and smooth, with a creamy blending of cream and toffee forming the backbone. Toasty, rich overtones, with a sweetness similar to SugarDaddy. The aftertaste is toffee rich, with a crisp, roasted finish. Very tasty brew, and surprisingly easy to drink with the richness of the flavors.

On tap into a pint glass.

A- good looking bright and clean copper-brown color with a one-finger tan color head. Some bubbles and some lacing.

S-yeasty, bready, and earthy.

T-not too sweet bread maltiness with a bit of fruit in the backround. I was looking for a bit more hop balance.

M- very sturdy, full body. Nice carbonation. Flavors hang on a bit.

O-A good beer that I wish has a little more bite.

Poured into a tall pint glass, color is copper to light amber with light tan head, light clinging on glass.

Smell is lightly fruity and malty, hints of toast and biscuit maybe some raisans, very inviting.

Taste is on the sweeter side, solid caramel, toast, fruity mix of flavors but nothing over done.

Mouthfeel is fuller bodied with some lingering sweetness and light carbonation, nice lingering flavors.

Overall, very nicely done beer, a little sneaky with this abv but the flavors work very well from the bottle.

Poured into a beer mug stange.

Pours a hazy, caramel amber color. Has a one inch light tan head. Lots of bubbles rising. Brew leaves decent lace. A lacy island rims the edges of the glass. Decent looks.

Brew smells of caramel malts, yeasts/grains and some nuttiness. Pretty good nose.

Brew is nice and malty; caramel and nutty, this brew starts smooth with a little bit of carbonation to pepper the tongue. Sweet caramel and good light roasted nutty notes. Almost a tad bit of fruitiness as well in here. Finishes slightly dry. Good brew here.

Nice flavors and drinkability here. I am surprised by the ABV; cant even tell its 7.2%. This is a good session brew. A good malt heavy brew when you desire all malts. Very good stuff here.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass. Bottle dated 12-12-11.

A - Pours a nice clear copper color with a one finer white head. Leaves a nice lacing.

S - Very malty with bready notes. Some corn and caramel as well.

T - Emphasizes the grains and malts. The finish is a bit sweet with toffee/caramel. Leaves some booze on the tongue, more than I would expect from a 7% beer. Slightly metallic aftertaste with some fruit and tobacco.

M - Thin with medium carbonation. Slick.

O - Decent beer. I'm not a big fan of most of the german styles because I think they lack the full flavor I am looking for. I probably won't get it again, but I wouldn't turn it down if offered.
