Notes/Commercial Description:
This malty, full-bodied double alt is also known as “Stickebier” – German slang for “secret brew”. Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Deep amber in color with lite carbs. The head is thin but lingers a good while. In the aroma I picked up a lot of malts. I could smell toffee and sweetness. There was also a sulfur aspect too.
Taste was all malts. I didn't pick up much hops in flavor oe bitternss. Additional flavors were bread, toffee and some mild fruity esters.
Drinks smooth on the palate. It's fairly clean with pretty much no aftertaste.

a: golden caramel, very clear. large 4 finger solid white head

s: aroma is dominated by sweet malts. some syrup-like toffee notes and dark berries as well. just the faintest hit of some hops in here as well.

t: sweet caramel and toffee malts right away. there is some earthy spice in here as well. fresh dough. the finish is very faint generic hops. this is a nice malt-forward beer. not overly complicated, but all the flavors in here are nice

m: light to medium mouthfeel. there is carbonation in here, but can't really feel it

o: as mentioned before - its not overly complicated, but all the flavors in here work really well. drinks really smooth, and is quite enjoyable.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

appearance - dark but translucent enough to see through.
smell - not overpowering , malty with caramel overtones. taste - smooth and easy on the way down nice aftertaste makes you eager for next sip. mouthfeel - not overly carbonated, smooth and silky on the way down. overall - a very drinkable offering from long trail. Decent price for a quality beer. I like it served ice cold after work is done. At 7.20 ABV the taste is well balanced with the alcohol content . It seems to sell well because its spot on the shelves in local shops

sometimes sold out. Not real heavy if you don't want a stout but something a little lighter.
