Hazy golden orange, dense creamy ivory head. Smells of big ripe bananas.

Nice banana esters. Some lemon and crisp wheat malt. Crisp mouth, slighlty sour wheat malt in the aftertaste. Refreshing. One of the more interesting and estery American hefes I've had. Very nice, Long Trail!

Wow was suprised by this beer in a very good way...Poured a slight hazed peach color with a quick to form 1/2 finger head that was gone rather quickly leaving no lace behind as it settled, big overripe banana aromas mixed with a touch of clove I noticed a grassy hop presence tucked away in there as well wich was a nice touch a lemon essence shows thru as well. The banana flavor comes thru again on the palate along with toasty wheat malt and a touch of clove a fading lemony/citrusy presence shows up late and gives off a nice aftertaste.A style that doesnt normally do alot for me but this was a very nice offering from Long Trail.

I tend to be ambivalent about hefes, but this one I just didn't like. It was a hazy dark yellow with a small head. It had a pronounced citrus (orange) aroma. It had a citrus taste, wasn't sweet, and a metallic aftertaste. Just not an enjoyable beer. Where are the bananas?

12 oz brown bottle with no bottled on date printed ... a blurb about the beer in the neck label.

A- Slightly hazed deep golden straw color, I expected this to be a bit more cloudy but there was very little yeast at the bottom of the bottle to stir into the glass. Decent lacing, head retention is only strong enough to keep a thin white head ... very little stickage.

S- Suggestions of banana bread, banana taffy ... powdered clove, neutral but nutty yeast. Mellow wheat malt aroma.

T&M- Solid wheat maltiness, slight twang and on the dry side. Nutty yeast with a twang of wheat; faint lemon, ripe banana and a watery clove / medicinal phenol flavor. Smooth with a mild crispness, moderate body.

D- The Hefeweizen is a tough style to crack, Long Trail just makes the cut but it is going to be a tough fight when you have so may great imported and domestic Hefeweizens in the market. All in all its worth a try.

12 ouncer, label says "BOTTLED:..." but gives no date...this was purchased at the brewery last week , so I'm quite sure its fresh...Pours medium orangy amber, super cloudy, with a tan head, moderate in stature and retentive powers, also noted is some thick lacing, that mostly slides down the glass. Nose here is brigtly of lemon and bananas. This is a pleasant hefe, flavor notes of more bananas and lemons, sweet bready crusts, maple sugar encrusted walnuts, flavorful and refreshing, great stuff for a warm weather lunch, salads, bread and cheese, BBQ etc., Nice summer quaffer.

poured into a wheat glass with a large bowl from a 12oz brown bottle with a crimped cap. Arrived from Sudsdog via BA shuttle.

Cloudy,yellowy/orangy/golden hard to discribe the exact color. Tall, thick, creamy white head dissapated a bit quick leaving a thick coating atop. Very lively looking very tiny bubbles stringing very tightly knitted slowy rising to the surface.

Aromas of freshly baked bananna bread,a bit of bubble gum, slight hints of clove, doughy yeast aromas with citrusy overtones. A clean and pleasing aroma with lots of bannana.

Clean, with a big bannana flavor burst, with some spiceness, citrusy, some doughy tastes,a slightly sour acidy taste not overbearing, finishes with a citrus/citrus rind puckering feel.

Light mouthfeel with some grainy-like tartness. Crisp and clean the citrusy finish is very inticing. Very easy drinking, enjoyed it on the deck the first outside tasting of the year, would be a great summer beer.

12oz bottle weisse-poured into a wizen glass. Didn't realize this brew had been retired till now!

Pours a nice light golden cloudy color with a huge fluffy and sticky head. Nose is sweet, yeasty and a bit wheaty. Some banana notes as well.

Woo! Taste is like a runt banana! Very strong and upfront with this, a bit sweet and somewhat thick and sharp. Mouthfeel is good for a weizen.

This was the first wheat beer I ever had back in my freshman year of college and I loved this stuff, coming back to it is very refreshing! Sad to see this is being retired!

Pours up with a thick white head, cloudy yellow not too deep of a shade. Aroma- Light, grassy, sweet yeasty.
Mouthfeel-I can taste the malt but not a good wheat bite. The malt body is thin but mixes with mild hops that tingle with good carbonation. The whole banana clove thing in this Hefe is different. A good froth reveals some tangy flavors going from yeasty to citrusy. The banana flavors here are candy-like, like taffy-cool! Zesty HefeWeizen, quaffable. Now that the dark winter brews are gone, I am enjoying much hefe!

a very nice summer brew that is not over the top in any way, just very refreshing

A- cloudy straw gold with nice white head and some good lacing on the glass

S-some cloves but only a hint of what is to come not to much of a a nose on this beer

T- very nice clove and wheat in the begining with a crisp refreshing ending. This beer is very good tasting

M- light and carbinated as a Hefe should be

D- an easy drinker to sit back with and drink on a warm summer day. I really like this beer. Nothing to fancy just good drinking.

Long Trail- Hefeweizen

Appearance- bright yellow with a thi/ weak head. No lacing.
Smell- Light sterile banana/ clove with a light lemon zest.
Taste- Very light hefe banana/ clove. The flavor is watered down and the beer is lifeless in the end.
Mouthfeel- Light flavor up front, bubbly in the middle and little favor in the end.

Overall- A weak/ lifeless hefe. Drinkable but not the most enjoyable.

Poured a merky straw/golden color. Thin 3/4" white head, dissipated to a decent thin foam covering.

Smells wheaty with major amounts of citrus (yeah...lemmons) and herbal spices.

Taste is dominated first by wheat then a mild lemmon edge with a nice amount of spices and herbs. Pretty dang flavorful indeed.

Feels crisp, clean and yes...refreshing. Very "active" on the tongue.

It's a Hefe, and a flavorful one at that. After a six hour hike in MT. Monadnock (in NH) this puppy is going down reeeeal easy.

A classic Bavarian hefe-weizen brewed in America! It pours a hazy golden-orange body beneath a fluffy bright-white head. Fine, tiny bubbles continually rise, helping it maintain a head throughout the entire glass (as the retention and lacing are a bit limited). Intense aromas of bananas, apples, sweet malt, and cloves greet you in the nose. It's texture is zesty and then creamy and silky. The flavor follows the aroma with the addition of a light note sulphur at the outset; some more spicy phenols than the nose lets on; a spritz of lemon; and some darkish fruit, maybe plum. Enjoyable and refreshing. Quaffable!

Really, really nice beer.

I pour about 3/4 of the beer into my glass and it's just a little hazy. What's left in the bottle I swill around and stir up the yeast sediment and add that to my glass to complete the package. It looks good. Hazy, light cider in color.

The smell is amazing. Apples, lemons, bananas... the chicita banana ladies' perfume! Just perfect smell for a hefeweizen. Almost don't want to drink it, I'm satisfied enough, I said almost.

Full of flavor. Has a sort of apple tartness with a twist of lemon. Apple crisp, like a brisk fall morning. Good malt backbone for the fruit flavors to attach themselves to.

Mouth feel is good and finishes crisp with a little bit of coating on the tongue.

Not a fruit beer mind you, but a great hefeweizen!

Pours a bright cloudy golden orange color with a decent white head. The smell is of light bananas and granny smith apples, perhaps some very light clove/spice. The brew has a nice crisp wheat base but lacks the good banana/clove flavors. Has a champagne grape like flavor with a shot of tart lemon. The feel is moderate and fizzy, finishes quite dry. A solid and enjoyable wheat beer but not that great in terms of a hefe. It is lacking most of the qualities of a good hefe.

Poured from 12oz. bottle into weizen glass.

Appearance- Muddy brownish yellow. Not the prettiest beer, but not scary looking either. Thick white head on first pour and slowly dissipates to quarter inch.

Smell- Banana leads with a nice lemony citrus close behind. Some pepper.

Taste- There's only a hinting taste of the banana from the initial scent, but the citrus is very present along with a touch of wheatiness. Not much in the way of spiciness one expects from a hefe. There's a bit of pepper, but that's about it. There's a sweetness to it, but the citrus really dominates. Generally crisp finish.

Mouthfeel- Good body, not too thick and not too thin.

Drinkability- Quaffable, refreshing, and easy drinking.

Overall Long Trail's is a decent hefe. It isn't going to unsettle any of the upper echelon hefes as it lacks the complexities, but it's a fair addition to the middle ranks. I didn't find this to be nearly as sweet as some reviewers indicate.I imagine it'll be a frequent companion grill side for the coming summer.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow. Head disappears quite quickly leaving no lacing. Smells of faint clove, lemonly citrusy, very faint grassy hops. Tastes like dry and lemony followed by some residual sweetness. Finishes with the clove flavor and dry. Nice clean crisp taste with some chalky wheat flavor.

A nice clean American hefeweizen with a nice clove taste and aroma. Very nice for the style.

Poured from the 12 oz bottle pictured above into a pint glass. Poured a hazy, cloudy yellow - clear evidence of the unflitering. Small foam, modest retention.

Smell was citrus - more lemon than anything else. Slightly malty. Very little banana.

Taste was clean, crisp, controlled by the citrus. Moderately tart, but never overwhelmingly so. Went down very smooth.

A very drinkable summer beer. A solid hefe, though not the best I've ever had.

This offering pours a cloudy two-tier dark orange on top and light gold on the bottom that leaves a thick off-white head. The aroma is nice, banana, cloves, wheat, must, and a little sour acidic aroma. The taste starts sweet, ripe banana, apple, wheat, that is followed by a crisp carbonation filled with a mildly bitter hop balance. The finish is somewhat watery not as flavorful in the finish as I like but a good version of a Hefe-Weizen. Nice to see an American brewery tackling the style.

A: Poured a hazy orange color, pretty clear for an unfiltered.

S: fresh wheat aroma, some sweet oranges, along with banana.

T: smooth with a big orange flavor and was pretty much one dimensional, lots of oranges and not much else, Some spiciness and hop tang (Saaz?) in the finish.

M: creamy texture that ends with a slight lemon sourness.

D: Moderate drinkability, average flavor.

This is a 12 oz bottle served in a DuClaw tumbler glass. The weizen is cold.

A: The ale has a hazy yellow-orange color and a small white ring of head. The ale left a ring of lace at the mouth of the glass.

S: The ale has a pronounced clove ester aroma in the nose.

T: The beer has slightly overdone the esters, with a heavy clove flavor that crowds out everything else but the occasional banana hint. This is labelled a true hefe weizen and they aren't kidding.

M: The esters are pleasing, if a little overdone.

D: Very drinkable and one of Long Trail's better offerings, this beer is worth a look for those who can find it.

Thanks to kingcrowing for this extra.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with plenty of carbonation bubbles and a 2-finger head. Minimal lacing.

The smell is overwhelmingly fresh bananas with slight clove & yeast scents. Taste is wheat, yeast, bananas, cloves & some bitter/sour lemon. Mouthfeel is rather carbonated but surprisingly heavier than I expected.

This is a drinkable hefe. The banana qualities are strong, and I like that but it's to the detriment of other nice hefe characteristics.

12 oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Pours a cloudy light orange color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly leaving no lacing. There is yeast floating aroung in the glass. Aromas of banana, citrus, grass, and yeast are present. Strong banana and clove taste up front leading to some orange citrus and a lemon finish. Medium carbonation, light body leaves a clean mouthfeel. A nice beer for a picnic, but a little watered down for a truly great hefe.
