It pours a carbonated, clear rich amber, fetching in hue. A finger of bubbly off-white head ebbs slowly to a foamy film. Lacing wisps gently down the glass.
The aroma brings a brassy, slightly spicy draft of hops punctuated by a gentle baked maltiness and a distant yeast fruitiness, but it all takes some doing to really ascertain.
A sip brings a mild but certainly present current of toasted malt, which is quickly bested by a pointy spicy hop tang. The center fills out nicely with an earthen dough presence of grain and yeast. The finish is quick, with a mere hint of sourness along the tongue, followed by a short lingering of dryness. This is as simple as basic gets.
Light bodied and light mannered, it flows through, feeling ever so slighty flat in nature, which was a bit of a surprise.
As it goes down, and it goes down capably, nothing grabs you, but then you're done, you realize the package is pretty good. Very smooth with a fundamental flavor, it drinks its way to a contented grin. It doesn't have to excel to be very drinkable, but it sure guarantees a follow-up offering. It makes getting back to basics a real comfort.
