Long Trail Ale is a full-bodied amber ale modeled after the “Alt-biers” of Düsseldorf, Germany. Our top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature result in a complex, yet clean, full flavor. Originally introduced in November of 1989, Long Trail Ale beer quickly became, and remains, the largest selling craft-brew in Vermont. It is a multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear copper color with a two-finger head. Minimal retention gives way to an abundant but thin lacing. fairly low amount of bubbling.

S: Smells mostly of a sweet, biscuity malt, with apricots and a small amount of hoppy citrus in the background.

T: Sweet roasted malts up front, with some molasses at the end. Neither very complex nor interesting, and even a bit skunky at the end. Hoppy bitterness but not flavor is present. Alcohol is very prevalent, especially as it warms.

M: Syrupy but well cut with quite a bit of carbonation. If it tasted better, sessionable.

O: I remember this being better when I drank it more often towards the beginning of college. Slightly better than average, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, nor would I pay for this beer if most others in its price range were available.

A: Pours a clear copper color with a small white head that dissipates into a small white foam on the surface. Leaves spotted lacing.

S: Sweet caramel, raisin bread, molasses, berries.

T: Sweet bready malt upfront with fruity undertones and a slight herbal bitterness.

M: Light bodied with soft carbonation, crisp, and refreshing.

O: Overall it's a nice sessionable, flavorful, refreshing beer.

Poured into a pint glass. This one pours amber with a finger of white head that doesn't stick around to long.

A bit of a sweet malty aroma here; kind of gives of a not quite ripe berry aroma. Perhaps citrus hops in the background with a little bit of spiciness. Grainy malt flavors with some berries in the finish. Al little bit of citrus hops round this out.

Light body with good carbonation. Overall not bad. This one was a left over from a gathering with a handful of friends. Not a bad beer, but not to exciting.
