The bottled date on the 12 oz. bottle reads 08-05-08.

A: It pours into my Widmer wheat beer glass with a crystal clear yellow body topped by two fingers of puffy white head. Lots of carbonation going on in the glass. The head dies down to a thin lace eventually, with a strange white island in the middle. I would expect something better from a wheat beer.

S: The dominant smell is a definite, though light, blackberry aroma. My first impression was that it smelled a little fake, the blackberry that is. Underneath that there is a very elusive and barely present wheat aroma. It needs to have the smell kicked up a few notches, since it currently promises absolutely nothing.

T: There is a very light, crisp and biting blackberry flavor that reflects the fake ass aroma. It lacks substance. It could be improved if the taste was just a little bolder. It seems like the aim of this beer is to satisfy people who want something other than beer.

M: Light bodied and watery mouthfeel backed up by a crisp carbonation. However, that is not what I look for in a wheat beer. It also leaves an unpleasant metallic feeling in the mouth after the swallow.

D: Not great. It lacks complexity and the mouthfeel ruins the drinkability of this beer.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright gold with a very slight hazy character. Not as hazy as most wheat beers I've had. Tiny white head that is gone fast. Not much lacing at all.

Aroma: It smells like a cell phone. Just kidding. The nose is pretty subtle on this one. The blackberry is way in the background. It smells clean and slightly sweet, and vaguely grassy, but it's mostly neutral.

Taste: Nice, clean, light wheat ale taste with blackberry sweetness on the finish. Very easy drinking, light, and refreshing. The blackberries are more of an accent on the finish than an overwhelming presence, which is probably good. Like the ad copy says, the blackberry is mostly noticeable on the finish.

Mouthfeel: It has the depth of an easy-drinking summer beer, which it is. Not a sipper. This is a beer for BBQ's, hot afternoons, ballgames and other assorted fun weekend warrior goings-on.

Overall: You've probably got a friend who likes dumb fruit macros like Bud Light Lime and whatever Raspberita is and whathaveyou. I'd say hand them one of these; it's approachable and fun and has some nice crafty appeal. It's nothing mind-blowing but it's a fine day beer.

DATE REVIEWED: June 7, 2014... GLASSWARE: Lindemans flute... OCCASION: Gatsby 2012....bring it on, Baz!...APPEARANCE: crystal clear, faintly tinted in yellow, with rapid effervescence; thick yet bubbly white head...odd, misshapen lacing... AROMA: pungent, offish skunky funk that suggests a fruity failure--not saying any more than this... PALATE: soft, bubbly, thin and drinkable--almost refreshing, but more like weakly flavored water... TASTE: mostly acquiescent light beer malt tendencies, with a tinge of blackberry--rather flat... OVERALLL: a weak, cleansing, warm weather wheat that doesn't distinguish itself; such a slight turn of berry that only faintly offers flavor, and what is offered is annoying....

Pours clear yellow into a pint glass. This is now announced as discontinued, so this is my farewell bottle. No noticeable hop or malt profile, but the blackberries remain restrained and it finishes dry and crisp. Ideal for a hot summer day. Very drinkable and refreshing. If we are honest, this beer, at 110 calories and 4% abv, is light years better than any mass produced light beer. It's better than some new session IPAs too and many other fruit/wheat craft beers. Sadly it lacks the hops to sell anymore and so must be retired. I wonder what will take its place as a bridge beer.
