Triple Bag is brewed in a small batch from single infusion that uses only the first runnings of the mash. The result is a brew made from only the purest part of the grains, providing a uniquely rich and dense flavor, with an aroma reminiscent of the finest dessert wines. This brew is naturally carbonated and is an example of brewing purity that is rarely experienced by those other than brewers themselves.

A - Mahogany with ruby hues, slight head that fades to slight covering rapidly, low carbonation.

S - Caramel and toasted malts and not much else. Good aroma but lacks depth.

T - Now we are talking...lots of malt flavor, some dark fruit, some some caramel, a touch of bitterness at the end.

M - Nice creamy feel, definitely a sipper, coats the mouth and lets you savor each sip.

O - Nice beer, one I go to frequently when I want a nice malty beer without too much bitterness (not that often...but it happens).

Pours dark maroon amber red-brown with a creamy khaki colored foam head. Smells a bit vinous like an oxidized sherry wine, some toasty malts, dark fruit, creamy caramel, toffee, molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla, with some earthy herbal piney hops. Tastes concentrated and rich, dark, roasty, a bit charred, nutty, toasty, caramely, fruity, with creamy caramel notes, toasted bready malts, toffee, dark chocolate, blackstrap molasses, dark dried fruit, vanilla, and some earthy herbal piney hops. Feels medium bodied, thick, creamy with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a real nice triple amber ale.

Pours a murky amber color, appropriate off-white head. Great malty aroma: toffee, brown sugar, molasses, caramel. Flavor is fairly sweet, lots of caramel, some burnt brown sugar, blackstrap molasses, burnt toffee. I think the burnt flavors are due to the age of the beer. Also, the hops present as pure bitterness, not overwhelming, but very noticeable on the finish. Tremendous creamy texture - not sure if it is from the carbonation, but age def has an impact on it. Overall, a successful experiment - glad I sat on this one, as it is quite enjoyable. Reminiscent of Kane’s Vengeful Heart, with less hops...

Huge beer, reminds me of a double bock. Loads of malt in this, tons of molasses, caramel, brown sugar. Big boy at 11%, but not too boozy. Well done, buy again.

Just like double bag but bigger and maybe a bit more of a hop bite. This was 2 years old and I bet even better at 5 or 6.

Having the last of the this 6 pack now 5 years after my initial rating. Now a 7 year old beer this is exquisite. So few beers ACTUALLY age well but this is right there with old stock ale and jw lees harvest ale on just perfect drinking at 7 years old. Really wish I had bought more of these.

This is close to being my perfect beer: plenty of malt, but not as overpowering as a porter or stout, and enough hops to hold its own, for a good balance.

I've never understood why a strong "double" or "triple" amber was so hard to come by, when strong porters, "imperial" stouts, and double or triple IPAs are routine these days. Perhaps just not as many people wanting them.

But this beer is easy to drink -- as easy as the double bag, ie, no more alcohol feel than that -- with a mellow flavor that is not to sweet and still retains some hoppy bitterness.

I love this beer, but expect that with Long Trail having been sold to a larger brewer it's likely to become a thing of the past. If so, a very sad loss, in my opinion.

Look- pours a cloudy, rusty orange-hued brown; 1.2 finger tan head, decent amount of lacing

Aroma- butterscotch, toffee, figs and pipe tobacco

Taste- follows the nose very closely, plus there's a firm hoppy bitterness

Feel- medium/full bodied, lower carbonation, long bitter finish

Overall- really nice "triple amber" that drinks like an exceptional american barleywine

Bottle. Reminisce of a barley wine. Boozy barley, raisins. Similar to a dark high ABV Belgian, without the European master-yeast.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown/amber colored body that left a film of a small white head. Some really light spider web lacing graced the sides of the glass. The body was too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell was malty with some nice strong scents of dark fruits coming in strong. The taste takes these same flavorings and ends up hiding the alcohol very well. The palate sits about a medium with some slight sharpness on the tongue. Since the alchol was hidden well, I would say this was a mostly drinkable beer. Overall, hey, this was a good one, I liked it for the style and for the beer, I would definitely get this again.
