A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with only the faintest hints of very dark amber highlights and a light amount of visible carbonation near the surface. The beer has a finger tall dense and creamy very dark tan head that slowly reduces to thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass including some large bubbles in it. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee - there is also a lighter amount of dark fruit sweetness and just a hint of pine hops.

T: Strong flavors of dark roasted malts with some moderate to strong flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, and some dark fruits (plum and raisin). There is also a light amount of smokiness and ash. There is a light amount of bitterness from the pine hops but the beer finishes with just a hint of sweetness. Overall, this is a pretty well balanced beer with a nice amount of complexity.

M: Medium to heavy bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a light amount of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: The Long Trail Brewmaster Series beers are always a very nice beer for a great price (in fact, they are pretty cheap in the NYC area) and this one did not disappoint - this is a very solid American Porter that is a very nice sipping beer. This is a big beer with a decent amount of alcohol in it, mostly hidden, so it is best enjoyed slowly - and it went really well on a cold winter afternoon.

I love porters. I love imperial porters. I did not love this beer. Not sure why my palette deviates so much from the general perception of this beer.

For whatever reason, it tasted like a scotch ale to me.

Had it as part of a flight at Grill Next Door (Haverhill MA).

This is a 2011 Vintage.

The beer comes in an almost black color with a mocha head.

The aroma has some soy umami, a lightly roasted malt, and chocolate.

The flavor follows with chocolate, some coffee, a good amount of soy and roasted malt. A well balanced creamy porter flavor with a medium to full smooth mouthfeel.

A well done and balanced imperial porter.

2011 vintage bomber, bottled 092111.

8.3% ABV is well balanced and well hidden making this a winter beer that's frighteningly easy to drink. Pours a dark mahogany colour with ruby at the edges of the glass. The respectable coffee-coloured head leaves an impressive amount of lacing, despite its own short life. Aroma of roasted dark malts with underlying vinous barrel tannins. Not certain how much of that rawness is age, or even if it's perhaps mellowed out, but the barrel overtakes the coffee and chocolate tones that also become more pronounced as it warms. Flavour has a nice balance of sweet and bitter, with dark chocolate the presiding note in the finish. The creaminess in the mouthfeel is muted, but still a fulsome beer to drink. Glad to be sharing this bomber, but will look to pick up more when I can.

A - Dark brown almost black with a sight tan head. Good lacing on the glass(note: I poured this into a goblet)

S - The smell is slightly sweet and toasted.

T - Very flavorful, I am getting a mildly smoky chocolate taste along with what seems to be a toasted malt. Not bitter at all to me, but I did have an IPA a little earlier so that may be effecting my taste buds a bit.

M - Very smooth with a mild carbonation.

O - I would say Long Trail nailed it here. It is a porter in every sense of the word. I will definitely be picking up another bottle of this, especially since I tend to lean more towards porters in the winter,
