Style | ABV
American Amber / Red Ale |  7.90% ABV

Availability: Winter

Notes/Commercial Description:
Brewed to celebrate 100 years of the oldest hiking trail in North America, the Long Trail. This ale features a slightly sweet malt flavor delicately balanced by the use of centennial hops. This bigger beer goes down smooth, please indulge with moderation.

Our Imperial Red Ale has the traditional characteristics of a red ale with the addition of an ample amount of hops and a higher grain bill that yields more sugars during the brewing process; resulting in a higher ABV.

Pour is a murky, swampy reddish brown. Scant white head with slightest bit of lace.

Nose is pretty sweet, with notes of caramel, brown sugar, and a rich maltiness.

Taste is similarly malty sweet. Again a bit of caramel, sweet malts, but finishing with a biting hop finish. Nice bitterness for balance at the end. Also some soft notes of scotch and oak mixed in there.

Mouth feel is medium thick, seems appropriately matched to the flavors

Nice red ale, nice robust flavors. Nothing really mind blowing here though. Good balance of malt and hop, and a good powerful beer overall, worth a shot if you see it.

Deep reddish brown colour with a creamy, dark beige cap. Good head retention, plenty of lacing. Grapefruit aroma was apparent as soon as the cap was popped, followed by caramel, bread, a hint of pine and oranges, and slight alcohol. Bitterness was tempered by caramel sweetness up front, but finished strong. Citrusy notes and a spicy finish rounded out the flavour -- simple but effective. Medium plus bodied with creamy carbonation, alcohol warmth, and slight astringency. Nice balance overall and quite tasty.

Dark reddish copper body with a nice thick and foamy white head. Big malt nose; slightly spicy hop fragrance. Warm, toasted grains with a peppery hop profile mid-sip through the finish; peppermint. heavy body; smooth with a fine carbonation.

A well-balanced, complex and very flavorful ale. All the sensory components meld together nicely. Malt sugars and hop bitterness dance well with each other, plus a fully-present but not over-powering alcohol burn adds an extra dimension to things.

Picked this up at the Market Basket in Claremont, NH a about four days ago. Too bad I tried this the night before flying back to Colorado, otherwise I would have picked up at least one more to enjoy before departing the region.

Pours into an imperial pint glass a clear deep amber with a half finger light tannish colored head that settles pretty quickly.Piney hops really stand out in the nose along with some earthiness and mild roast, not much sweetness.Flavors are quite hoppy at the onset with pine resin to a lesser extent grapefruit notes, again it's quite dry for the style with a little alcohol and caramel detected. Not bad the finish is a little abrupt but this has a nice hop profile.

Long Trail Centennial Red poured clear, dark red with a creamy white head. Mild lacing on the glass. There were slight citrus & pine notes. It was smooth and heavy, but not syrupy. The overall taste was malty and a little sweet, with a hint of bitterness. This is a distinctive and enjoyable pour, and another fine addition to the Long Trail Brewmaster series. Best suited for a goblet.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of citrus and piney hops with medium sweet malt backbone. Taste is also dominated by citrus and somewhat piney hops mix with some caramelized malt backbone with some residual sugar discernable. Body is somewhat full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nothing earth shattering but good strong imperial red.
