Notes & Commercial Description:

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Our Brown Bag Milk Stout is jet black in appearance and has a prominent aroma of roasted barley and coffee, with some chocolate secondary notes. A thick, creamy and long-lasting head is characteristic. The flavor is sweet, with a mild roasted character lasting through the finish, accompanied by a balancing smooth creaminess. The overall impression is a very dark, sweet, creamy ale. A treat for the aficionado of classic styles, this product will have very limited distribution.

On tap at 2 bros. Pours a dark brown/black color with a thin layer of brown head. Some lacing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate and roasted malts. Taste echoes the aroma. Sweet chocolate with smokey, roasted malts. Earthy with some slight bitterness. Bitter with black coffee at the end. Easy drinker for sure. Slight sweetness throughout. Creamy mouthfeel. Overall, solid milk stout I'd grab again.

On-tap 5/20/2013 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains smoky malts, coffee, chocolate and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with flavors of coffee and milk chocolate. Then a mild but complementary hops presence comes in along with a hearty but not too heavy roasted malt character. The after-taste is bitter-sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry but slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style but seems more porter-like than stout-like, it’s a solid beer to drink for a while.

I've really got to check out more in this series. Missed the other 2 and haven't seen the 4th yet.

Pours a charcoal black color with a very thin brown head into my glass. The idea of drinking a milk stout sounds oddly appealing on this cool spring day.

Lots of lactose upfront followed by roasted malt. Maybe a touch of cocoa. I'm not totally sure.

Soft and slick with a big, meaty dose of roasted malt. Similar to an oatmeal stout but with a creamier essence.

Mouthfeel is similar. Soft, creamy and goes down very well. You kind of have to let this warm up to room temperature in order to really appreciate those elements.

Very nice. Would make a great winter seasonal. If they lowered the ABV some more and added more lactose, it would be much better (to me at least).
