Maibock / Helles Bock |  6.50% ABV

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes/Commercial Description:
A deep golden Lager brewed with imported grains and hops. The fine malty profile is accompanied by the aromatic qualities of real Vermont maple syrup, with the freshly produced syrup sourced from local farms, including a small operation owned by Matt Calcagni, our Safety Manager. The beer is rounded out with a balancing bitterness and a hint of noble aroma hops.

Pours into a half liter stein a deep copper/bronze with a tight fluffy white head that settles very slowly, great color to this beer.Aromas are malty sweet with caramel and faint maple, there is faint leafy hops but the sweetness is the main component. The feel is a little sharp and on the lighter side for a beer of the style in my opinion.Flavors are pretty sweet and douoghy up front but there is a decent drying leafy hopped finish. Not bad but it comes close to being to sweet...at least for my taste.

Appearance is a dark golden straw color with a finger of head that dissipated quickly. The hop notes on the nose were clearly present. I thought that this offering was overly fizzy (especially at first sip) and that detracted from the flavor experience. The finish is a combination of sweet malt and light hops. Not at all sure where the maple notes might have been, but I surely did not notice any.

Appearance - I'm not really familiar with bocks as a style, but it looks just like maple syrup. Spot on.

Smell - It smells like molasses or dark honey, but a little one note and flat.

Taste - Graham cracker malt flavor definitely dominates the palate, and maple sweetness is secondary. Very flavorful.

Mouthfeel - Too thin; the beer almost tastes watered-down because of it.

Overall - It's drinkable and worth trying, but too cloyingly sweet to be a session beer.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – Served a clear golden colored brew with a one finger white head that faded rather fast to leave a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma was malty and bready with lots of caramel sweetness. Mixed with these smells was a little bit of light fruits of apple and pear as well as some maple syrup smells.

Taste – The taste begins sweet and bready with lots of caramel. As the taste advances some other sweeter notes of a maple and a more butterscotch flavor comes to the tongue. A light hop flavor of a grassy taste comes to the tongue at the end, leaving a still rather sweet and malty but overall clean taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average as well. Both are appropriate for the style and make for a rather easy drinking brew overall.

Overall- A rather tasty maibock with a very easy drinking character and flavor profile.
