Notes/Commercial Description:
Our extended aging process results in an incredibly smooth and refreshing taste with little bitterness or aftertaste. Great for the warm weather or for those desiring a light bodied beer, this premium golden lager is 5% alcohol by volume. Thirst-quenching and flavourful, it’s a perfect companion to lighter fare, such as fish or salads, or spicy dishes like wings or sausages.

Appearance - Got a pitcher with a buddy of mine. Poured with barely a finger of head that sustained quite well but did not lace. The beer itself is a straw colored yellow/gold. Carbonation looks solid, and seems to be quite clear.

Smell - I'm not catching much from this one, even after it's had a chance to warm up. A little bit of cereal with a touch of sweet malt. It's not unpleasent, it's just weak and frankly bland.

Taste - Petty much standard lager taste. Starts with a mild malt flavor then goes into a mixed grain taste with a slight touch of hops. Finishes smoothly, without an aftertaste. In a word, average nothing bad about it, but nothing innovative or new with this brew.

Mouthfeel - This beer is clean and smooth. I don't detect any preservatives, it leaves no aftertaste which is both a pro and a con, the carbonation is decent. My only complaint it is a little bit watery at the very end going down.

Drinkability - This beer goes down incredibly smoothly and is quite refreshing. The carbonation is perfect and best of all. My only complaint was it was a slight touch hard on the gut. However, it's price was so good, it deserves a slight free pass.

Final Thoughts - For the price, and the fact it is superior to most macros, this beer is a welcome change. It's clearly meant to be guzzled, but it fits this role perfectly. This beer is a great bar or patio beer. Thumbs up.

Random single bottle snapped up from the LCBO's barrel of lost beers.

Poured into pilsner glass. A light, slightly murky yellow-gold, with about an inch of head, which disappeared fairly quickly. Halfway through the bottle, no lacing or head to speak of.

Nose is pretty faint - sweet, a touch of lemon and hops. Some sort of grainy tartness as well.

A resounding 'meh'. Tastes only slightly better than the usual discount brew fare, but the price puts it out of that range. Nothing offensive - the usual lemon, light hops and grain flavors from a pale lager. Certainly nothing here to justify the "blonde" moniker. Despite this, I'm certainly drinking this one...fast.

Watery, lower carbonation, a bit flat.

Drinkable? You bet - a few of these would go down easy. Is it better than others around the same price range? Nope. Probably not going to pick one up again.

Pale yellow, cheesy aroma. Astringent apple juice. Fizzy cabonation. Some lace. Sampled at LCBO Summerhill Festival. Corn, macro beer imitation, although with less preservatives. Light bodied.Unfinishable. A good choice for the local craft beer scene to rid itself of.

Tried as the only beer served on tap at the bus station in Kitchener, On. Had a pitcher and shared with a friend. I'm not used to being the "leader" or had the most beer out of a pitcher, but no one wanted to chug this. Not a beer you would call "tasty", but served the purpose of a bus station lager.

For the $15, we got what we paid for. Sadly it was the only beer they had on tap.

Appearance: The body is a straw yellow-gold. I forgot write about thehead and lce in my notes.

Smell: Fruity and sweet but not much else.

Taste: Mainly grainy and sweet. It is about average on the bitter and sweet factor.

Mouthfeel: Not much of anything.

Drinkability: Just less than average.

341ml bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance - the beer pours a clear pale golden colour with a decent size foamy/fizzy white head. I can't see a whole lot of carbonation, and there appears to be some good lacing. The head was gone in a few minutes.

Smell - The beer has an adjunct lager type smell, corn, malts, and slight hops.

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a low amount of carbonation and a watery type feel. I can taste malts and corn at first, then the beer has a sweet fruit flavor. It ends with a slight dry and corn syrup taste.

Drink -Not a good beer, and not something I'd seek out ever again.

Clear straw body eith a thin white head. Looks to have minimal carbonation. Aroma is slightly sweet corn with some chemically notes. Taste is sweet corn and some metallic flavours as well. Light bodies, watery mouthfeel. Aftertaste is also sweet corn. overall, although light , the taste is off and I wouldn't drink it unless it was the only thing available. The thooroughbred of beers? More like the pony of beers.

A: Intense yellow color with a big head made by little bubbles that disappears somehow fast but leaving behind a lot of traces on the glass.

S: A pure malty smell not to intense but not faint, with a little sweet aroma in the back.

T: Again barely taste with some sweetness at the beginning very vague but bitter again vague at the end.

M: Refreshing sensation, nice tasting for a lager but the flavors are not to intense, medium to light body with an also medium ending.

Pours a clear golden wheat colour with a minimal head, no lacing and a small collar that stays around.

Smells very sweet, like white wine and corn syrup. There is a faint graininess that all but disappears as the beer warms.

The taste is dry, with a corn sweetness that overpowers following. It tastes almost sour as it finishes. Unbalanced and biting.

Mouthfeel is watery and prickly. Slight citrus in the finish, but I can still taste a syrupy sweetness.

This isn't any better than a macro-brewed equivalent really and not something I'll go out of my way to try again.

A: Light yellow color, relatively clear, with a spitty white foam head. Medium to medium low levels of carbonation. No lacing noted.

S: Malts, dough, grain, some grassiness. Run of the mill aroma.

T: Overly mild malt flavor flows into a corn and grain sweetness. Hops are nearly non-exsistant. Finishes bland without any memorable impression made.

M: Boring. Quite flat, lacking the carbonation that could've saved this brew. Somewhat watery and mellow.

D: Not quite up to par. I'd have to say that this one I wouldn't likely come back to.

Notes: Special thanks to biegaman for the 12 oz. sample.

Pours a pale golden/amber, tiny white head forms and goes, leaves some bubbles, no lace. Smell is sweet, malt, corn, some citrus. Taste is sweet, citrus and corn, wheat, dry in the finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with high carbonation. Macro!

I chugged the first two of these beers and they went down too easy. Watery mouthfeel, clear yellow appearance, no smell to speak of, typical cheap lager taste, not very malty or bitter, I drank the rest in under half an hour, I would never buy it again.

Poured a crystal light gold lager in the mug with a small white cap that goes fairly quickly...but does lace the glass.

Almost no aroma to speak of...faint sweetness and cerial husks.

Light body, sandy mouth feel, smooth mild character

Light malts up front a bit fizzy from carbonation but there are some hops balancing the light malts...quick finsh, drying light biscuit taste at finish...no after taste.

Standard Canadian golden all malt lager clean, no off tastes, inoffensive.

Pours a clear gold, deeper than a lot of Canadian pale lagers. A fizzy white head is a flash in the pan leaving average lace webs behind. The aroma is sweetish with straw notes and restrained herbal hoppiness. the taste is on the sweet side and has some doughy character. Hops are too light and offer only light bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is thin but somewhat coating from the sweetness.

An OK cheap lager, on the sweet side and not complex at all.

In the interest of full disclosure: I reviewed a Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale prior to this.

I'd planned to stop there, but I'm bored and Newton's laws of motion apply to beer as much as any other kind of momentum, and as such I find myself compelled to keep reviewing and, not wanting to waste a good beer after a total palate thrasher like SABA, all I am left with in my fridge is this. Golden Horseshoe Premium Lager.

Only no. As the snazzy new redesigned label would have it, this is now Golden Horseshoe Blonde.

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2686/goldenhoseshoe.jpg

I could see how calling this "premium" might have raised a few eyebrows, but was calling it "lager" confusing people? Or why change the name?

Anyhow, a lively pour leaves a clear, golden beer with a tight, moussey head and loads of cascading carbonation. Retains and laces well enough, as these things go.

The aroma is grains and corn and soggy Cheerios...just completely unappealing. This is one to drink out of the bottle. Or, if you have a clothes peg handy, even better.

The taste reminds me of liquid popcorn. Very toasty and lightly sweet with just a hint of dry corn and lots of grain and cereal. A light touch of bitterness at the end leads to a quick finish and no real aftertaste to speak of. Much like popcorn you kind of taste it when it's in your mouth but as soon as you're done you can't even remember if you ate anything.

Thin and watery and, even though it looks highly carbonated, there is little to be found in the mouthfeel.

What's downright schizophrenic about this brewery is, on the one hand they seem to want to push the envelope with the recent installation of a pilot brewing system and their Project X...and on the other hand they seem content to sell bland, dumbed-down macro-esque beers like this and Red Leaf.

Straw yellow with a medium-sized white head that settles to about a quarter of an inch. Gives moderate lace throughout.

Slightly hoppy nose. Taste is of a typical lager. Have to damn this one with faint praise. Nothing particularly remarkable, but nothing nasty either. Better than your average macro, but unmemorable.
