Notes/Commercial Description:
In our pursuit to bring you the most flavourful and unique beers possible, we are proud to release this tasty autumn ale. Handcrafted with an assortment of specialty malts and hops, we added a generous amount of pumpkin directly into the brew. Combine this with hints of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice, and you've got a beer that you won't soon forget. Rich, satisfying and slightly spicy, our seasonal ale goes perfectly with your favourite dessert or traditional feast. But like fall, Pumpkin Ale comes but once a year!

Not sure where the "double" in the name comes from, my bottle just says Pumpkin Ale. 650ml bomber poured into a pint glass, sent out by pootz. Thanks buddy!

Pours a crystal-clear light copper colour with a healthy inch of head, some wet lace and medium-high carbonation. Nose is full of sweet malty aroma with tons of spice. I'm mostly getting cloves and allspice, with the cinnamon and nutmeg coming in right after. The whole mix is just a little bubblegum-like.

Taste is much lighter than I was expecting. A bit of zip from the spices, especially the cinnamon. The rest of the flavour comes off a little cheap as the malt profile is extremely generic with hints of veggie. Nothing to report in the way of hops in here besides a light herbal quality. There's a mineral flavour in here as well, which is somewhat welcome. Medium bodied and a bit creamy, cinnamon burns the tongue a bit but isn't really very dry at all. This is drinkable but a bit boring. I'm looking for more of a balls out beer to celebrate Halloween with.

Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale
Colour is a rich orangey brown, a slightly hazy profile, pretty solid film and lacing, some visible carbonation. 3.75

S – meaty pumpkin flesh, with some cinnamon apple, lemon, nutmeg, some roasty nuttiness. The earthiness and spiciness of pumpkin pie but less sweet, though there is some toffee, caramel and maybe some vanilla. 3.75

T – a sweet lemony bitter profile, some almond nuttiness, then some roasty pumpkin comes in with some strong clove notes. Earthy bitterness. Pumpkin is there in the backdrop but not a really dominant note until the finish, mostly a rounded roasty malty beer with some cinnamon, clove, nutmeg spiciness and a biscuity aspect. Then the finish has a sourish pumpkin bitterness and a dry long aftertaste. 3.5

M – balanced, moderate body, light carbonation and some malty sweetness comes through, fair bit of bitterness for the style. Sessionable and easy-drinking but could be improved. Feel could use some more body to really carry the flavours through though. 3.25

Not the best pumpkin beer I’ve had, this had a fair bit of lemony hops and spice notes dominate, pushing the malt and pumpkin back. You could certainly pick it up but it didn’t really shine I thought. Some balance issues as well, full-flavor though and with a sharpness to it, but this is not a beer I would come back to really soon. Shows potential though. 3.25

650 ml bomber poured into a pint glass from LCBO for $4.95CDN.

Appearance - Dark orange color, slightly hazy but mostly clear. 1.5 fingers of head, with creamy white cap. Reminds me of whipped cream over pumpkin pie. Decent head retention. Fantastic lacing

Smell - Pumpkin, spices, maybe some cinnamon. Nutmeg was another scent I picked up on right a way but couldn't name it. Not much in the way of any earthy tones.

Taste - Quite mild, hints of pumpkin, less sweetness than expected. The remaining tastes are similar to the nose. A bit spicy after a few sips.

Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation, slightly rough mouthfeel, medium dry finish. Very little in the way of aftertaste. Feels a bit thinner than I would have otherwise expected, yet finishes creamy. Interesting

Overall - My first foray into the pumpkin ale class is a pretty tasty one. Not really sure what I was expected, but this is a nice beer for autumn and I’m certain would go well with a Thanksgiving Feast.

Serving Type - 650ml bomber, poured into a pint glass

Appearance - Copper coloured, leaning towards an orange hue. On top is 3 fingers of bright white head with moderate retention. The beer is hazy and some carbonation is visible.

Smell - Yumm. Smells like pumpkin pie. Nutmeg and cinnamon and vanilla. Also ya'know some beer smells too. Mostly light grains and some sweet malts, but it's seriously masked by the awesome pumpkin pie smells.

Taste - Sorta like in the nose. A good deal of spice comes in right away. Again, lots of nutmeg. A good dose of vanilla. Towards the middle there's some caramel malt, and there's an ever so faint lingering hop bite that finishes the experience off in a fantastic note.

Mouthfeel - Extremely light. But in a beer like this it might be a good thing. it certainly doesn't detract from the experience.

This beer pours a hazy orange colour with about a fingers worth of head thad did not last long. Some lacing was left behind. Smells of pumpkin pie. Nutmeg, cloves, allspice, pumpkin and sweet malts. Taste is a little light when compared to aroma. Kind of like a light pumpkin pie. Their is some earthy malts to balance out the maltiness and pumpkin pie flavour. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, medium carbonated and overall well balanced with a spicy aftertaste.

650ml bottle poured into a pint glass. ABV 5.5%.

A - Poured a slightly hazy golden orange colour. The 1cm head didn't last long. Some short lived lacing.

S - Spice aromas upfront such as nutmeg, cloves & allspice with a backing of cooked pumpkin flesh. I love pumpkin pie and this beer always smells inviting.

T - Disappointingly light. Sure, there's a taste of pumpkin and desert spices among the sweet malts and light hops but it's all quite mild. Certainly milder then the aroma indicates. Despite that it still tastes pretty good.

M - Medium body, medium-low carbonation, some tang, mildly spicy aftertaste with a hint of metal.

O - More spicy than fruity. I always find it could be sweeter. Still enjoyed every fall usually accompanied by a slice of pumpkin pie.

Appearance: It has a nice golden/orange color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and some pumpkin.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a nice spicy character of all spice, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves along with sweet malts and some pumpkin. I wish I could taste more pumpkin in this one.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with decent flavors and aromas. Not the greatest Pumpkin Ale I've tried but still nice and refreshing.
