News of any new hop coming from the Yakima Valley perks the ears of IPA brewers everywhere, but, with Citra, things were different. The buzz was bigger. As Citra’s wave rolled across the land from the west coast we waited… and waited. Finally it crested, and a sample crashed into our pilot system. After brewing with it all the buzz made sense. Comments ranged from “Well that changes the game” to “It’s so good it feels like we’re cheating.” Today we procure as much as Citra as we can to bring you as much of this IPA as our little brewery can muster. All hail Citra!

Bottle: Poured a nice clear bright yellow color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of huge floral hoppy notes of citrus with some leafy notes. Taste is dominated by the leafy and citrus hoppy notes with limited bitterness and some residual sugar notes clearly identifiable. Body is light with good carbonation. I really enjoyed this beer and love the aromatics and the balancing of the bitterness.

Golden yellow under a large, long-lived and firm white head. Lots of chunky lace as you go. A handsomely good looking brew.

Deliciously sweet and fruity hops on the nose. Nice touch of caramel from malts. Nicely balanced hops and malt to taste. Gently bitter, fruity. Nice evenhanded grapefruit, sweet orange.

This is a really well put together beer. Nicely balanced all the way across. A pleasure to drink, very aromatic and tasty without being overpowering in any way.

This is one of my favorite breweries and I'm lucky enough that its just down the road.

A- Golden yellow with a very slight chill haze
S- Oh Citra, let me count the ways you make life better! Citrus, peach, tropical fruit, just good stuff
M- The carbonation is a little more than I like, but it does cleanse the palat
T- Very clean malt undertone that allows the hops to shine through and become the main attraction.the bitterness is upfront and subtle and then mellows with a nice smooth aftertaste. That is all Citra!
O- Really nice beer, similar to 3 Floyds Zombie Dust in my opinion...highly recommend, and a must for Citra fans.

650 ml bottle purchased from LCBO for $5.95 CDN. Good to see more of the Tank Ten beers available in the liquor store. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - Hazy golden color, with orange hues. 2 Fingers of fluffy and dense white head that lingers for a while. Lots of sticky lacing left behind. Beer is just sufficiently hazy to make the carbonation level indeterminable.

Smell - Plenty of juicy fruit aromas. Some grapefruit and passionfruit with and underlying pineapple and mango mixture. Nice big bold well-rounded aroma.

Taste - Lots of juicy flavors too. Grapefruit and passionfruit dominate with some sweet ripe pineapple too. Oranges in the mix too. Underlying bitterness to the whole beer is fairly substantial. Pretty damn good overall.

Mouthfeel - Smooth well carbonated and full bodied. the bitterness makes this a bit of a tongue zinger. Good feel for an IPA though.

Overall - One of the better IPA's I've had, for me not quite on par with Lake Effect, but certainly another great creation from the amazing Tank ten. Definitely worth a shot, and priced alright as far as bombers go.

Purchased the LCBO for just under $6.00 for a 650ml bottle. Served at 7deg C in a tulip

A-Opens well and pours a tiny head that films out in seconds. Dark gold color and unfiltered

S- Oodles of citra hops here. Hop bomb

T- Less hops then it smells. Either rather subdued hops compared to smell or super high level smell. I choose the latter. Had a nice hoppy bite to it but does not overpower by any stretch. A touch sugary

M- Dry and complex for a citra hop.

O- Very good. Compares to the best of the best in the nose department that's for sure. A bit more of a blend of hops you have an award winner. Will buy again

Food Pairing

This pretty good little brew went well with....... Fish and chips!

Enjoy

Bomber picked up at the local LCBO; served slightly chilled. GLB makes a lot of excellent IPAs, and this one's name definitely seems to come up a lot in discussions of their best. This is my first time trying it, but I still felt it prudent to grab several bottles based on its strong reputation alone.

Pours a cloudy golden-blonde colour, capped off with a generous two-plus fingers of puffy, sparkling white head. Retention is very good; it slowly recedes into a denser, creamier cap over the next ten minutes or so, leaving an attractive doily pattern of lace behind during this gradual process. The fruity, zesty aroma showcases the Citra hop quite nicely - orange zest and grapefruit are very prominent, with a sizeable dose of peach, pineapple and pine resin. There also seems to be some grainy pale malts and honey sweetness, but it struggles to be detected amongst the cacophony of lovely hop notes.

Very tasty stuff, with a decidedly citrus-heavy flavour profile - lots of juicy orange and grapefruit, some lemon oil and pine needles, all atop a subtle backbone of bready malts. Light touch of honeyed sweetness. Apricot, pineapple and mango flavours also come through, but only briefly - it is a pithy, astringent grapefruit bitterness that dominates the palate toward the end, lingering long into a resiny aftertaste. Medium-bodied, with restrained carbonation levels that gently prickle the palate, and a smooth, somewhat oily feel in the mouth.

Final Grade: 4.46, an impressive A grade. If you're in the mood for something hoppy, you can't really go wrong with these Tank Ten Series IPAs - and Karma Citra is widely regarded as one of the best of the bunch for good reason. I think I liked Lake Effect a bit more, but this is still an excellent IPA that shows off the citrusy, tropical fruit tendencies of its mother hop in an assertive, yet approachable fashion. One of the best West Coast IPAs in Ontario - a must-try, for sure.

Pours a beguiling hazed orange with a compact, very long lasting head. Foam drapes the glass on the way down. Orange oil, lemon rind and grapefruit hop aromas dominate the nose. A bit of biscuity malt in the back. A wall of Citra in the first sip, lots of orange, lemon, apricot, grapefruit, tropical fruit, celery and other hop flavors mingle in a sublime interplay. A firm malt balast keeps things in check. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and creamy with carbonation. Moderate bitterness and citrus in the long finish.

This is a fantastic IPA and an excellent showcase of this fine hop. Lots of hop complexity and very hop forward. A must try.

bomber into nonic pint. can't find any sort of date code on the bottle

a: this seriously looks like semi-hazy mango/peach juice... gave it an aggressive pour and there was a quarter-finger of head. i'm confused. but that's not to say this beer looks bad, it's just not what i expected

s: citra oh my goodness. guava, mango, peach, pineapple, orange, passionfruit and grapefruit dancing around a floral, biscuity malt backbone. feels like i am about to drink an alcoholic and carbonated version of some sort of tropical fruit juice

t: mirrors the nose. a very bright punch of the aforementioned fruits with a subdued biscuit flavours and a moderate bitter burnt onion-pine character. i'm getting some sort of mandarin orange notes in here too

m: medium-minus carbonation & mouthfeel

o: a great tropical-citrusy IPA with lively aromas and flavours

Poured from bottle into lagunitas jar, lightly cloudy orange with very nice lacing to it.

S- grapefruit, limes, florals, cherry, a lovely citrus character very robust over a firm malt base.

T- similar lines to the aroma, complex ruby grapefruit, bready malts, white grapes, a bit cereally then loads of lime and lemon, as the citra drives through, moderate and coating bitterness, quite clean and zesty, leading to a balanced finish.

M- pleasant and refreshing, moderate carbonation and a zesty citrus bite to it. Satisfying and also quite sessionable and refreshing.

Very tasty and the beer gives a good platform for the citra hops to shine, complex and robust grapefruit, dry and intense florals, overall a quite robust and flavourful ipa, pretty strong balance between the elements and a solid ipa.
