The beer pours a hazed golden yellow with a long lasting white head. Aroma is wheat, spices, and citrus. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The first and last thing you taste is salt, although there are peppery and citrus notes as well.

Bomber from the LCBO, served slightly chilled and reviewed on my phone. Listed at 5.9%; this bottle is part of the Amsterdam Farmhouse Series.
Pours a hazy, pale golden-yellow hue, with a half-inch crown of soapy white foam situated atop. It is rapidly reduced to a wide, frothy collar and patchy cap - looks vibrant and attractive. Citrusy lime and salty brine drive the aroma, though hints of coriander, wheaty, crackery pale malts and white grape skin are also detectable.
A real beauty. The wheaty pale malt backbone supplies just the right amount of sweetness. Grainy and somewhat bready, with sour lime, white grapes, peaches and citrus pith; this is trailed by a light coriander spiciness that lingers into a salty finish. Light bodied with zippy, prickly carbonation that doesn't let up. Uber refreshing, this bomber didn't last long at all.
Final Grade: 4.33, a fantastic A grade. Maverick and Gose is a seriously good beer - with its sourness, saltiness and fruity characteristics coming together to create a truly delicious triad of gose-y goodness. Absolutely one of the best goses that Ontario has to offer, and a highly recommended must-try for all fellow denizens who happen to share a predilection for this increasingly less obscure style. I'll be picking up more of this, guaranteed.

Preface : Just Adore that our local toronto breweries are doing collabs and trying out very advanced styles.
Huge sour fan. Love sampling Goses when I can. This one very much to style but benefits greatly from barrel aging. Yum.

650 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from the LCBO for $8 CDN. This bottle listed at 5.9% ABV.
Appearance - a rich yellowy golden color with plenty of hazy. Brilliant fluffy white head amount to a finger and a half is poured but doesn't last too long. Thin layer of foam does rest on top in addition with some coalesced lacing.
Smell - salt, lemon and lime. Some floral aromas in the background. Very clean and nice aromatics.
Taste - lemon and light saltiness. Some floral flavours in there with very mild bitterness. Quite nice and easy to drink. Some light spicing mixed in for good measure. Tart but not unreasonably so by the stands of the style.
Mouthfeel - light bodied and low on carbonation. Flavourful yet watery body. Works nice with this style and this is especially easy to drink.
Overall - a well made beer and the extra alcohol isn't detectable in this beer. These beers mavericks have pulled and ace out of their sleeve.

Bottle: Poured a pale yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light coriander notes with wheat malt and light salty notes. Taste is also dominated by wheat malt with light coriander and some light salty notes are also perceptible. Body is light with great carbonation. There is some citrus and tart notes but not in an overwhelming way. Very enjoyable summer beer with some complexity.

Pours a lightly hazy straw with a very small head that recedes quickly. Tonnes of thick sediment left in the bottle - I'm surprised it isn't hazier. Fruity, spicy aromas in the nose with a soft saltiness in the back. Salt is much more present in the taste. Its a very new flavor profile for me. It's quite subtle however and doesn't overshadow the fruity, apricot, mango, yoghurty tartness and other flavors. A soapyness and a bit of diactytl show with warmth. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carbonation level. The finish is dry and salty with a light hop bitterness, and some more fruity yeast and malt flavors. Very complex.
This is only the second Gose I've tried and it's good. I'm not sure I'd session a beer with salt flavor like this, but its got a lot more going on than that. Lots of fruity and tart flavors. Definitely worth a try.

Some men serve a term in prison, work out a ton, and come out bigger and buffer. It's almost as if all this beer did during its 4 months spent in Chardonnay barrels was work on the shininess of its complexion; you wouldn't think it could develop such a tan in such dark confines. But it has, and it sparkles a clear, lustrous golden and shows strong bubbling (though no head).
In case non-Leipzig natives were wondering, Gose is a regional German specialty ale that is brewed with salt, ground coriander and partially fermented with lactic acid. The spice, salt and bacteria-induced tartness are generally prevalent, as they are in this bouquet. It smells unique, effervescent and enticing, like as weissbier with a little extra panache.
If the aroma didn't do it, the taste will certainly capture your attention. Crisp wheat notes are predominate, though it's the tart lime, lemon and green apple notes that are of real interest. The coriander is appreciated too and compliments the beer's citrusy character. A general herbal quality also flatters the graininess of the wheat. The barrel really did meld everything together.
Brewing Gose is not like working the kitchen at TGIFs - too much salt *is* possible. The palate isn't accustomed to tasting salt in beer and hence is rather sensitive to it; this is an instance where a little really does go a long way. Fortunately these brewers exercised proper discretion. Salt is appreciated but doesn't dry out the effervescence. Actually, it could even use more.
Salt, lactic acid and wine barrels are all in the Danger Zone as far as brewers are concerned - a lot can easily go wrong dealing with such risky business. But, like the characters after whom this beer is named, these guys are good. Here's hoping, however, that this Gose doesn't die but rather comes back to life next spring and every spring after as a regular seasonal offering.
