This beer pours a clear, bright medium gilded bronze hue, with one skinny finger of loosely foamy ashy beige head, which leaves some random island group lace around the glass as it quickly settles.
It smells of mildly bready, wheaty grain, some soft orchard fruitiness, and floral, earthy hops. The taste is more bready, somewhat biscuity grain, with a crisp wheat undertone, some further dry, musty fruit notes, and consistent floral, weedy, dusty, sort-of bitter hops.
The carbonation is sturdy, and supportive, without any untoward intrusions, the body a fair spell on the light side of medium weight, and kind of airy, but smooth enough, I suppose. It finishes grainy and semisweet in an understated way, timid, even, with the floral, fruity hops trying their best to fill the gap.
This may be traditional, I suspect, but I'm not going for it - too light (taste, not the ABV), too floral, too weak. Perhaps environment and circumstance has much to do with the awards boosted of on the label, but I'm still underwhelmed.
