The best of the departo's that I visited (Isetan, Tobu, Seibu, and Takashimaya). Located on B1F - putting aside the beer for a moment, these department stores know how to throw together a food "court". My god - the world is your oyster when you're down in one of these. The worst part though, is in typical Japanese fashion, there's no where to eat your recently purchased mouth watering food items. Eating in public is of course verboten. Anyway onto the beer selection - impressive selection of foreign brews, particularly the Belgian & German bottle line up (as the Japanese like the perceived "best" of whatever it is they are consuming). However I was there for the locals and this leaves a slightly lackluster selection of Japanese craft on hand. That being said, it's easy to get to, the service is impeccable (as noted in a previous review, my beer was bubble wrapped - twice.), and everything is in coolers. Worth a stop for sure - if not for the beer, at least for the food.

Beer haul:
1. Yona Yona Ale
2. Tokyo Black Porter
3. Sankt Gallen Sweet Vanilla Stout
4. Hitachino White
5. Sankt Gallen Orange Ale

A very large selection comparative to other department stores. Lots of interesting American brews (Sam Adams Triple Bock?!), Belgians, Germans and others. Japanese section wasn't as large as I hoped, but there were still a number of gems worth bringing home, including beers from Ginga Kogen, Hitachino Nest and Ozeno Yukidoke.

Service, as ever in Japan, is first rate. The language barrier precluded me asking any questions, but my beers were very well-wrapped to the point that I didn't bother doing anything more to them before packing them in my case. Prices were okay for Tokyo, but pricey for elsewhere.

I'm surprised that I'm the first to rate this gem of a department store (depato). I was in Tokyo on business in March 2005, and visited here to pick up beer on the advice of a friend. He was sooo right.

There was a very good selection of Belgians: Many of these beers are easily found in the U.S., but I was so happy to find them while in Japan. Plenty of Saisons, lamibics, and such. Achel, Orval, Westmalle, Chimay, and Rochefort rounded out the Trappist selection.

The most interesting service is that there were always 5 Belgians opened and ready for you to pour into little cups to try before you buy. This was the case all three times I visited the store!
