25 cl. bottle picked up @ a local Sunday Supermarket – consumed @ home: the front of the bottle mentions as their others beers do that this is ‘The Beer of Brussels’ and the back informs us that young lambic was used. Which makes me wonder as to, at whom this product is aimed, most people buying this have probably no clue as to what precisely lambic is. Calling it Framboos should be enough here to tell them what to expect. The back also mentions that this stuff is aromatized beer, has at least 10 % fruit as well as sugar. A total of 2.9 % alcohol is listed – rather on the low side, probably due to all the added stuff. Appearance is not bad, even if not necessarily all that beer-looking, it is a clear, very bright ruby / crimson, head is light shade of pink, white, sinking, some of it sticks to the sides with such a passion that it makes me wonder as to what chemical stuff might he in this. Smell is raspberry jam, the cheapest kind, very heavy on white sugar, mixed with odd artificial sweeteners in the back, which make this stuff not all to enjoyable. Taste is the brief sweetness of raspberry grenadine, not pure – dissolved with too much water, leading into oodles of unpleasant, there is absolutely no real raspberry involved in this beer, chemically, lightly bitter artificial sweetness, I always have difficulty with thins like this, if you ever tried some of the artificial sweeteners pure, it is like this, chemical, utterly not enjoyable, strangely more chemically bitter than sweet even, getting Cherry Coke in here as well, the cheapest no brand soda imaginable, light plastic,… I am not really opposed to artificial sweeteners or extracts in beer but when you taste so much of that stuff at once and none of it is enjoyable to drink,… this so far removed from beer that it isn’t funny anymore, this seriously tastes like soda in every way imaginable,… Even the body has more in common with Cherry Coke than anything else. The EU has so many rules of appellation but when it comes to sour beer, call anything whatever you want seems to be the rule. I still have difficulty grasping as to why this is counted as lambic, yes there is probably some lambic somewhere in here but it is completely impossible to taste it and that is not the point either.

look: the beer pours a clear red colour with a small fluffy pink head
smell: bit sour, but mostly dominated by sweet berries. Not too much raspberry
taste: sweet berry lemonade with some slight bitterness-sourness in the end
mouthfeel: medium carbonation, thin body
overall: lemonade, but better lemonade than the kriek

25cl bottle, best before 19th Aug 2010, drank and reviewed on a sunny 25th Jun 2010. The beer was poured into a 'Mort Subite' flute.

Raspberry red colour, almost clear, with just a hint of a hazy cloud. On top a foaming light red head.

Very little aroma, some red fruits, but no huge raspberry feel to it.

The taste is fairly sweet up front, a drier more sour flavouring comes later in the mouthfeel.

Not overly impressed, weak flavours, smells and body, the 2.9%ABV does nothing for it either.
