I stopped in here tonight on a whim, when I saw a number of bottles on display (including Pumking which I happened to be in the mood for).

Walking in, the place is definitely small. It isn't a beer-only store, but beer is definitely their specialty. Selection-wise, they don't have a ton of stuff, but they do have a few things I haven't seen elsewhere. The prices are a bit more than usual, but that's okay considering it's a small, local business. The biggest downside to the place is that it's cash-only, so if you stop in you should definitely have some cash on you or use their ATM (which will charge you a fee).

The best part about this store, and what makes me want to go back, is the quality of their service. The man at the desk (I believe he's the owner) was very friendly and was definitely knowledgeable about beer, even quizzing me on Shiner Bock when he saw my driver's license is from Texas. When I picked up my Pumking, he said "you'll like that, it's 9% alcohol!" I told him I knew but I loved the stuff- he was legitimately fun and, again, knowledgeable. Best of all, though, was this: I went in earlier tonight (before the 24th turned to the 25th) and the 24th is my girlfriend's birthday. She excitedly showed him her ID and said it was her birthday, and while I was at the ATM getting out cash he gave her a free Chimay chalice. Again- very nice guy working here and he made me want to go back to support his business.

Overall, there are bigger, better beer stores around. Yes, the place is a bit expensive and the cash only thing sucks a bit. Still, though, the service and pleasantness of the owner gives this place a lot of charm, and I'm almost excited to go back there to chat with him about beer again. If you're in the neighborhood, this place is worth a look for sure.

A small corner grocery at Morton & 7th, a few blocks (as noted) from the Blind Tiger.

Quality: Nice selection of mostly imports, well-laid out but rather small in size.

Service: The man running the shop was on the phone the whole time, not that I needed assistance in browsing the place. Only near the end did I get a "Can I help" look from him.

Selection: Nice selection of German, British and Belgian offerings, although the domestic front appears barren. LaChouffe and Chimay stood out, as did Weihenstephaner. The selection was sizeable and highly focused on the imports.

Value: Prices were a bit high (although all prices in NYC are high compared to PA), but nothing made me say 'Whoaaaa' in disbelief. This is a good store to check out after visiting the Blind Tiger, as they prolly have that rare Belgian offering that you just tried.

Walked by this little place on my way to the Blind Tiger (its about 5 mins away) a few days ago. Its basically the size of a small deli, but it seems that all they stock is BEER. Good selection of Imports and domestic brews. Even had a few Stones. Not amazing, but respectable variety of quality brews.Prices seemed to be about average for the city. The owner, was a friendly guy, who knew alot about the products and enjoyed talking shop. Worth a visit if you find yourself in the west village in need of some quality beers
