I purchased a can from my liquor store in search of trying a greater variety of western European beers.
Poured into a pilsner glass with a nearly insignificant amount of head - there is about one finger's worth and it dissipates almost as quickly as it appears. The colour of the beer itself is very pale yellow, but it sort of has a shiny sheen to it. Maybe it's the condensation on my glass, but I've seldom seen beers this pale be so appealing to look at.
The smell of the beer is really malty without much depth to the aroma. It smells sweet, and doesn't have a whole lot of depth to it. I would have hoped for a little more hoppiness from this beer, since helles lagers are not usually devoid of hop bitterness like this, but let's taste it first before we are too brash.
Well, there's a good hit of carbonation when you first sip it. The maltiness is pretty evident, but the real pleasure for me is the great fruity undertones that this beer possesses. There's a great green apple flavour going on here - it reminds me sort of like Ephemere from Unibroue, and I gotta say, it's very nice.
Overall, it's a pretty decent lager. The hoppiness is not as strong (or existent at all, for that matter) as I would have liked, but the beer looks great and has a fantastic, clean taste with fruity undertones. There is an off chance I'll but this again.
