Don't let its looks deceive you. Clean and smooth, easy on the hops and easy on the palate; this light bodied ale has a surprising depth of malt flavors with pleasant hints of a smoky molasses.

Can from a six pack. Purchased at a market just outside Traverse City. Pours with a large head that fades quickly and the carbonation does not exist after the pour. Deep burgundy color with a light smell of sweet caramel malt. Taste follows and is quite average at best for this style. The feel is thin and the lack of carbonation does not help here. Overall an average beer at best. Very odd name and description of the name on the can. I will finish the other 5 cans but will be thinking of the local black beers that crush this beer.
Edit….As I get closer to end of the beer it becomes sweet and syrupy, lack of good carbonation really hurts this beer.

On tap at the Sidelines Sports Bar in Cambridge, MN
Black. Smells like coffee and pine trees. The taste leans heavy into smoked malt and bitter coffee grounds. If I didn't know it was a black IPA, I would have guessed this was some sort of stout. Great full feel, easy drinking, perfect for winter

I had it on tap. Not a big fan of black ales. It's fairly bland. Very watered down. Slighty bitter on the after taste. It's not terrible but I woudn't have it again.

I smell molasses, coffee and a slight bit of toasted malt. Looks opaque dark brown but with a light shining through, it’s a clear, very dark amber. Taste like toasted coffee and cocoa, with a slight caramel (molasses?). There’s a little bit of a bitter on the finish.

I used to think that brown ales were my favorite but first I discovered Perrin Black and now Keweenaw's Widowmaker! What's even better is that before today the only place I've ever found it at a Tavern was at Stoney Lake Inn, but today enjoyed a few pints at PJ's in Manistee. So very smooth and drinkable like a little taste of heaven in a glass.

Not bad but would have expected more from a craft brew especially one called the widow maker

First on tap in Mackinac City, then picked up a six pack that I've been working through since.
A - Pours cola dark, with a dark brown-black base and subtle transparency, a light tan head, short with only a minimal ring remaining after a quick fade.
S - A note of pine and soft citrus, over a powerful roasted malt core that dominates.
T - The roasted malt, dark bread, coffee and chocolate, not much hop flavor, and a substantial acidity in the close. Close to something really special, it ends up being quite tasty nevertheless.
M - Moderate weight, soft feel, and just a bit slick in the finish. I feel the hop note I did not taste in the close.
O - I am a big fan of Black IPAs and Cascadians, and also Browns. This feels a bit more like a Brown, with just a bit of hop to cut the maltiness. That's not bad, but if this had more hops, I think it would have been much more. Still pretty solid, and one I'd buy again.
