Notes/Commercial Description:
This one-of-a-kind red lager is the unique creation of our brewmaster. Special hop characteristics are brought out through a process called "dry-hopping", where raw hops are added directly to the lagering brew. Experience this smooth blend of slightly sweet malt flavors balanced by the full taste and aroma of the renowned Hallertau hop.

The Great Dane in my neighborhood finally added the Devil's Lake Red on tap, if only for a few months. Served chilled in a pilsner glass.

A=Lighter yellowish red...started out cloudy in the pitcher, but settled. Foam was minimal...nice amber color, except lighter and more towards yellow than I would have liked.

S=I was not able to detect any smell, either positive or negative.

T=Very nice...stronger than other lagers, but not quite as flavorful as I had hoped for.

M=Very nice...lost a half-point for being a bit more watery than ideal.

D=The lightness of this beer makes this a very drinkable beer...I was able to drink 3-4 glasses from the pitcher without any difficulties.

I will likely get this again unless I can find another red that I like even more.

I had this one at the Great Dane in downtown Madison.

Poured a medium reddish brown color. Full head throughout the beer that took a couple minutes to settle and become drinkable. Tasted really good, nice malt flavor. Very smooth drinking beer. I could drink this all night.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the Madison brewpub.

Another entry in my pre-interview extravaganza. It pours a clear rosy pumpkin topped by a finger of white micro-froth. The nose comprises flowers, wheat, and some very light toffee. The taste holds notes of wheat, flowers, and, get this, white bread. Seriously, it tastes like biting into white bread. I've never encountered this before in a beer. Hmm. The body is on the lighter side, with a very light carbonation and a ridiculously smooth feel, almost nitro-tap- or cask-like. Overall, this was just a lackluster beer all around. If beer is liquid bread, this is liquid milquetoast. That said, it's easy enough to drink, but only because it's offensively unoffensive.
