Perfect cascading tan head conflicting with the black body. Retention is surpassed by none.
Roasted and burnt hues factor heavily in the nose along with some oaty sweetness.
Roastedness has come to play here. Very burnt and smoky up front. Oat smoothness settles in and sweetens things up a bit. Baker's chocolate hues throughout. Lightly, but adequately hopped finish with long-lingering roastedness.
Beefed up, fleece-like body. Smooth and fluffy.
Delightful. The best of GD's stouts.

I had a pint of this at the Fitchburg location. The beer was on nitro tap and the bartender had the proper pause in the pour. A very impressive looking beer. Cascading carbonation, jet black in color with an impressive tan head.

The smell was of roasted malts, licorice and some bakers chocolate.

Given the impressive look and nice aroma, the taste was a bit of a disappointment. The beer was sweet, but the roasted malt flavor seemed a bit washed out. The chocolate notes that were prominent in the nose, were barely present. No off tastes, or bad notes, just a very mild tasting beer.

The mouthfeel was creamy and smooth and the beer was very drinakable. Given the very mild taste profile of this beer, it may be a perfect way to introduce people to this style.

Pours an inky jet black with a light-tan, nitrous looking head.

Aroma was too muted to pick up at the bar.

Flavor seemed weak and watery. What was there was a nice blend of chocolate, oatmeal and coffee. Most of the flavor seemed to become apparant only in the aftertaste, which contained a nice amount of bitter chocolate.

Mouthfeel was perfection. Extremely creamy without being foamy. Perfect base.

Drinkability is a toss up. Thin, creamy & smooth make it easily drinkable. Just not enough flavor for those that expect more from a stout.
