A: Clear copper pour with a tall, somewhat uneven, pale brown head. Rich lacings after the slow dissipation.

S: Roasted dark malt, almost like overroasted toast. Bitter hops are very mild. Creamy.

T: Lots of dark dried fruits. Sweet like hard-candy-sweetness. Malty! Coffee galore.

M: Aftertaste is roasted but short. Body is full, while carbonation is mild.

O: A nice, interesting Belgian take on the Scotch Ale.

.5 liter into pint glass

pours a deep mahogany brown with reddish tinges and a billowy 4 finger head which left nice lacing.

smells of strong malt and sweetness, some yeastiness as well

flavor is rich malts, some sweetness of caramel, a bit of smokiness, somewhat toffee like as well.

high carbonation makes for a nice balance.

alcohol well-hidden, but a bit one-dimensional compared to other scotch ales I have tried

I tried this beer in Roots (a pub in Vlissingen, the Neterlands). They change the tap beers quite often, and that is alway a good thing. It would help if the owner would stop smoking inside and kept his dog outside.

A - A off white head on top of a dark brown beer.

S - Malts only.

T - Sweet in front and bitter in the end, in between there is some candy sugar to be discovered.

M - Soft carbonation and a light bitter finish.

O - A nice tasting beer but not really special and complex.

Pours a deep amber to brown color with a light tan head. In the aroma, earthy and a small roast. In the taste, earthy and peet like, with a nice small, sweet roast. A small bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry earth in the aftertaste. Nice earthiness and a small alcohol presence, but tasty.

A-a deep ruby brown with a fingers worth of tan head that leaves quickly but leaves some stickiness on the glass

S-rich malts, sweet dark fruits, and a bite of alcohol

T-rich malts with a slight bitterness, lots of fruity sweetness, and alcohol

M-full body, moderate carbonation, chewy

Overall is good, but not my favorite of scotch ales, I think due to a bit of unevenness of flavors, a little too sticky sweet

S: coffee, malts, caramel, and something between peach and pineapple

T: Coffee, and caramel again, apricot, malts and hops at he end, less balanced then you would expect from the taste.

M/D Creamy , good carbonation

Good but not really my style.

Brown robe with red highlights marked. Nose that smells sweet caramel and red fruits (plum) and touches of yeast strong enough at the nostrils. Aftertaste of spice fairly strong but that is fairly typical Belgian and not really Scottish. There is also a post-peat flavor. Much bitterness is noticeable in the finish.

Shocked to discover I hadn't reviewed this beer before, anyway, here goes:

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 11th Jun 2011 and poured into one of its own Thistle shaped glasses.

It looked 'the business', a full off-white head sat on top of the reddy-brown, ruby-mahogany body. The body was clear and see-through.

Malty molasses, giving off a toffee style aroma is all my nose could pick up, nice!

Sweet, turning drier in the aftertaste. The alcohol is very evident, the toffee and molasess try to mask it, but just about fail to do so. Black treacle on brown toast with a richness from a well buttered malt loaf sort of taste.

Far too drinkable for such a strong beer (my bottle claimed 8.0%ABV).

33cl (picked up at a grocery store in the Brussels train station), unfortunately without the sweet thistle to go with it, but great packaging. Poured into my Delirium snifter, Gordon Finest Scotch is a dark rubby with a big light tan head the leaves scattered foamy lace.

Smell is sweet and fruity, strong grape, some noble hops.

Taste is also rather fruity Belgian esters, which overwhelm the caramel malt and light leafy hops. I like grape flavored BSDAs, and while it's a good enough beer, as a Scotch ale the esters are a bit out of style. Still, this one grew on me as I worked though.

Mouthfeel is sticky, a little light bodied for the style (again, betraying it's Belgian roots).

Drinkability is pretty good as light and sweet. A bit disappointing at first, but it grew on me, and had some subtle complexity from the tea-like hops.
