The spooky cool label calls it a "Strong Red Ale" that is "Brewed in Benelux for N.V. John Martin S.A. (Belgium)".

Something of a mix of Scottish Ale with a Red Flanders Ale and a Brown
Belgian Ale...and the color turns out to be orange with hints of red and purple. Quite a nice color, really...

Little head from my bottle...partly attributable to it's having passed it's "stamped date" on the bottle by 4 months, I guess. But like many Belgian's, it's likely none the worse for aging a bit more.

Smell is not all that strong...but it tastes really nice. Sweet-candy sugar with caramel-raison aftertaste. Missing a bit of a hop and "yeast" balance, though. Definitely drinkable. Wish I could drink it on tap right now.

Bought this last year after having a Gordon X-Mas ale that was wonderful. I wanted to pick up all I could by this company in Brussels before heading back to the US. Came back with 18 bottles of beer...half were carry-on...I guess those days are over.

2004 Vintage, drank in Feb. 2011
The bottle says, good until 2006, I am guessing at least minus 2 years which is pretty standard for a Belgian beer, bottle@Kulminator, from notes:

A: looks kind of light, watery orange, hints of purple if you hold it up to the light, according to the bottle it should have a purple hue, tiny white head
S: chlorine, smells like swimming pool water, hint of malt
T: even worse than the smell, unfortunately it tastes like swimming pool water, chlorine, watery, hint of caramel, malt & sugar at the very end, disturbing & weird, this really shouldn't have been aged, I cannot imagine that this is how it was ever supposed to taste
M: thin, watery, some carbonation
D: swimming pool water, yes it is drinkable but why would you want to is the more pressing question here

This should have never been aged, it simply aged horribly, none of Gordon's stuff should ever be aged.
