12 ounce bottle, w/o any sort of freshness info to be gleaned. Pours typical amber, but on the moderatly cloudy side. Nice long lasting khaki head, very slowly morphs to a thick film and leaves all kinds of elegant looking strands of lace. Grainy, piney hop notes, over a slightly thin malt base. Smooth mouthfeel, again perhaps just a bit on the thin side. Suprised by the ho hum ratings of this one. Nothing special, just an easy drinking better then average NY State IPA. Enjoyable brew.

A: Dark golden amber with lots of rising big bubbles and just a hint of haze. Big, rocky, light-ecru head with good retention and super lacing.

S: Sweet caramely malts and pine & citrus rind hops. A soft bit of diacetyl as it warms. Pleasant, but not very forward.

T: Quite a lot of medium to light crystal caramel and sweetness – sort of honey impression. Almost too sweet. Some toasty grain & biscuit round out the malts. Touch of diacetyl. Fairly firm bitterness & hop flavor, but still pretty balanced for an IPA. Pine and grapefruit rind push the sweet malt aside with a sugar drizzled effect. Middle to end goes increasingly resin and rind. A significant amount of sweetness makes it into the finish to mingle with the lingering hops that show a firm pine/resin/earthy aspect.

M: A bit over medium body with CO2 matched to keep it from leaning heavy feeling. Lots of coating, tacky sugars, a mild bit of chewy dextrins, and lots of hop tannins. Despite all the sweetness, the hops eventually manage to take the finish drying.

D: A tad too much sweetness that slows you down a bit. The diacetyl seems rather out of place with the US pine and citrus hops. I had no issue finishing the glass, but probably would not go for another right away.

Served in a pint glass from a 12 oz. bottle.

A: Reddish color that yielded a good white head. The head quickly disappeared and left a pretty good lacing.

S: Hops are right up in front and they smell great! Spicy, piney hops. A hint of malt in the back but the hops really come out nicely. I really did enjoy the smell.

T: As with the smell, the hops come through first. Citrus and pine. A spicyness lingers afterwards that was quite nice. Crisp finish also present that complimented the flavor profile nicely.

M: Thicker mouthfeel, which is what I always appreciate in an IPA. It wasn't too thick though as to make a labor to drink. Crisp enough to make it a good beer to relax with.

D: Great beer. Didn't even realize the ABV was at 6.5%. Would make it a session otherwise. One concern is that I feel like the spicyness could be cumulative as you keep drinking it, making it overwhelming in the end. Still, great beer and great style.

hotel beer

a: hazy amber color, decent white head, some lace and retention

s: pale malt body holds a moderate dose of caramel, muddled earthy hops with notes of pine, a little rustic but fine

m: highly carbonated, not quite offensively so, but certainly on the high end, body medium-full and a touch slick

t: buttery caramel with a harsh, abrasive pine hop profile, well hopped but the residual sugars still impose, unbalanced, highly bitter finish, initially off-putting, but it grows on me after a bit

d: okay, too sweet for high drinkability

A-Clear orange, some lacing is left behind.

S-Some earthy tones, little bit of dirt, not much in the way of hops.

T-Earthy, little bit of citrus and dirt. Not much bitterness.

M-Medium bodied, decent carbonation.

O-A boring, bland semi-avoidable IPA.

Served in a pint glass. The color is a hazy copper, a little darker than I expected. The medium off white head thins and leaves a film of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is well balanced between the sweet malts (honey?) and assertive piney hops. Hop bitterness is strong, but hop flavor is lacking, a faint bit of grapefruit and pine. Malt flavors balance the hops nicely.

Mouthfeel and carbonation are fine. A well balanced easy drinking IPA, but nothing about it stands out as special.

L: Pours a clear yellow-orange color with a medium sized and medium bodied white colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet toasted malts, hints of caramel malts, a mix of some citrus aromas and some earthy, citrus hops at the end of the nose.
T: Tastes of sweet toasted malts with a hint of caramelized malt, and then a nice mix of citrus, pine, earthy, and floral hops that are clearly there but not overpowering. A nice change from the hop-bombs everyone expects with an IPA.
M: Lighter bodied, crisp, fresh, refreshing, perfect amount of carbonation.
D: Overall a pretty decent IPA and it was nice to have something that didn't feel so acidic going down, real nice mix of flavors and feel.
