This is one of the beers that truly benefits from lowered expectations in my book. Not that it's a bad beer, far from it. As a true representation of hefeweizen, however, it's not quite there. It is pretty goddam close, though, and close is better than nothing.

Appearance: A little too pale in my opinion, but has the great carbonation tracings running up the sides of the glass like the real deal. Comes with a very insistent and frothy white head that sticks around for a little while (but not really long enough).

Smell: Unfortunately, you have to order this sans lemon if you don't want the Widmer-influenced citrus assault to destroy the smell of this beer. If you do that, you'll get the full nose of the Bavarian yeast that Don Spencer uses. It's a bit more muted than some I've had (like the Smoke Stack from Water Street or the hefe from Cape Cod), but it still gives a very nice, clove-y nose.

Taste: Not spot on, but strikes a fantastic balance between a genuine hefeweizen, and the murky crap that has been foisted on the American public for years now under the guise of "hefeweizen". A nice beer to help bridge the gap between the two styles.

Mouthfeel: Delightful. To me, the mouthfeel of the American wheat beer pseudo-weizens is just too frickin' heavy. This is supposed to be a session style, and the heavieness of those just kill that idea (for me anyway). Hell, I've even made this a breakfast beer.

Drinkability: Fantastic. This is a nice, light, and very easy drinking beer. It's perfect for summer afternoons by the lake, in the park, on your porch, or at the beergarden at Silver City. I drink it fairly regularly, and will pronounce it the best hefeweizen brewed in the Seattle area.

Color is a light amber color and quite clear even after several short pours. Lots of foam at first pour and less later, though some bubbles streaming in the tall Blanche de Chambly glass. Light but pleasant scent of malt and fresh hay.

A distinct bubble gum flavor but not the classic German esters. More canned peaches than bananas. Quite sharp and even acidic. Very light body. Carbonation is coarse and not long lasting. Rather bitter even before the finish.

Overall this is a little dishwatery . Still it's light and easy to swill though not much to brag about compared to most examples of the style. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Special Brews in Lynnwood for just $4.49.

A story in wheat and bannana. Cloudy orange with lacelines. Above average carbonation takes away from a potential creamy mouthfeel. Significant bannana beer in taste, aroma. Not bad for wheat beer fans, OK for the style I have had some good ones.On tap at The Only Cafe.

22oz into a weizen glass. Pours a cloudy pale yellow w/ a loose 1-finger head, vigorous carb.

Aroma is subtle ripe banana and clove, soft wheat malt, other vague spices and fruits.

Taste follows nose. Spicy malt, clove, banana. An almost sweet lemony tartness sings high above everything. Clean and drinkable.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, carbonated just right. Refreshing.

Overall not a world-class hefeweizen but a good local option.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a weizen glass.

Appearance: light golden hue with a light haze and a nice effervescence. Head poured two thick fingers of pillowy white foam; nice.

Smell: refreshing wheaty aroma with a nice clove character. Personally I like a bit more banana in my hefeweizens, but this is pretty decent.

Taste: nice clove-heavy hefeweizen flavor. Decent, but again it's not my preferred flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a fulfilling creaminess. Actually, quite a grand creaminess. It's great!

Overall: wonderful mouthfeel notwithstanding, it's not my favorite hefeweizen. Pretty decent for an American version of the style, but like I said I like my hefes a little fruitier.

I had the "six shooter sampler" at Silver City Restaurant and Brewery. This was one of the six. For whatever reason (small servings, straight glasses, environment, etc.) detecting the smells of these beers was difficult. Also, the heads had receded by the time the waitress brought the glasses to the table, decreasing my enjoyment of the appearance. With all of this in mind . . .

A - cloudy golden

S - weak presence of spicy hops

T - weak malt flavor overpowered by spicy hops; cloves

M - light-medium body; medium carbonation

O - not much to it; would not purchase again

Poured a lighly clouded yellow with good carbonation and a nice tiny white head. Nose is wheat, cloive but pretty average. Taste, oh boy, a big mess. Lots of clove, light banana and wheat. Taste is pretty bland and not to my liking. Mouthfeel has way to much CO2 as I am still belching 4 hours later. Pretty weak, clove, wheat and banana in there somewhere I am sure. Pass.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a very cloudy (almost chunky) yellow with a tall, bright white, fluffy head that had some retention and lacing.

The aroma was a good example of the expected banana/clove scents found in the style. The flavors followed the aromas closely and were very true to style.

The body was very good, fuller than most of the examples of the style. Drinkability was also very good, spending an afternoon with this beer would be a pleasure.

Overall, a very good Hefe, certainly worth the trip to Silverdale if you're in the Sea-Tac area.

pours a semi-cloudy orange-yellow with a medium size thick white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good lacing, heavy carbonation throughout.

smell is of wheat, touch of spice, and some bread yeast.

taste has a lively carbonation on the tongue, wheat, slight banana, some yeast in the back, there is a touch of spice, and ends somewhat on the thick side with a spicy aftertaste.

overall better than most of the silver city offerings.

I bought a bomber of Silver City Bavarian Style Hefeweizen while visiting the brewery a few weeks back. Poured in to a Weizen glass.

Bright yellow/orange color and is clouded with sediments loosed from the the bottom of the bottle. MASSIVE foamy white develops on a medium aggressive pour. The head is tall and bubbly, but not particularly sticky, so it does not adhere to the sides of the glass.

The smell is a strong sweet fruity aroma. Soft fruits, melons and peaches, with a spice scent along side.

Taste is a tangy sweet banana and clove flavor, typical of the authentic Bavarian hefe. Very little bitterness.

Mouthfeel is a crisp, zippy well carbonated feel, a little like soda pop, with a dry spice finish.

A very drinkable hefe, and a decent representation of the style, especially for an American brewer. Well done! I wish I had more.

I took notes on this beer last night when we ate at Silver Sity Brewery Co.

Served from the tap in a hefeweizen glass.

Appearance: extremely cloudy, it looked like orange juice so I thought the bartender got it wrong, wispy head

Smell: WOW, it was definitely a hefeweizen, classic banana and clove, vanilla and Seville oranges

Taste/Mouthfeel: light clove, spice, banana, fresh oranges and vanilla

I wish I could afford the keg of this wonderful crap to keep at home. I will be very sad when I move away and can't find this hefeweizen locally.

A: Pours a cloudy yellow color, 2 finger width white head, good lacing down the glass.
S: Lemon zest, yeast, clove spiciness, slightly hoppy. There is also an unpleasant scent that I can't put my finger on . Smells like mold or something.
T: Wheat flavor, lemon, and slight banana/clove taste
M: A tad on the overcarbonated side but not too bad
D: Good easy drinking hefe, would like to try again sometime.

At first, I caught a brazen whiff of ammonia off this beer. Was that a detergent residue from the glass or a lingering ester from the yeasts of this Bavarian-style beer? Most likely it was the beer, though the smell faded soon and wasn’t enough to compromise the overall drinking experience.

Mostly a standard, drinkable hefe though not memorable. Nice, flocc-full body of blushing beige. Tall, white head. Modest tart flavor with a peppery bite. And they don’t force a lemon on you without first asking your preference.

Nice wheat malt aroma with low levels of phenols and a hint of clove. There's a yeast ester spice aroma too that seems a little peppery and out of place but for the most part the aroma good.

Pale gold colored with a really nice pure white head that leaves a little lacing. Very cloudy which is appropriate for the style.

Fist sip all I really get is tart wheat malt. Kind of a sweet and sour effect from malt and normal wheat sourness. There is a little phenolic effect (again good for the style) that I get as slightly clove. I don't get any banana esters that you find in a lot of Bavarian Hefe's But the overall yeast profile in the flavor is spicy so when added to the good malt sweetness/sourness it's a nice example of the style. Hops are apparent for bitterness but not in flavor or aftertaste which is how it should be.

Kind of full bodied for the style but it has a nice creamy carbonation that balances it out.

Very drinkable beer. It's hard to get really fresh Hefeweizen (and it's a style that suffers a lot from age) so it's nice to have an above average locally brewed one.

Poured a cloudy off gold. Small head. Nose starts out like a normal hefe and then is morphed into sour grain. Taste starts as banana, but then becomes sour and grainy. I don't like it. Body is ok but man, I'm very tempted to feed this to the drain.

Had this straight from the tap at the brewery. Light pale yellow color, typical cloudy Hef appearance. Nice frothy head that just sat there about 1/3 inch.

Smells of wheat, lemon, vanilla, and has that distinct Belgium style yeast aroma.

Some easy drinking beer here. This this goes down like a sports drink. There is alot of flavor here to decipher. Definately can pick out the wheat and yeast flavor, but I think additional nuances were hidden but a bit too much of the citrus, lemonny flavor. Overall an excellent hef though.

Lacing is evident all down the sides of the glass. I can clearly see that I've had 5 pulls, with 3 or 4 yeat to go in this 22 oz mug.

I had to deduct from mouthfeel slightly as there was a light pastiness on the palette left behind.
