Intriguing notes of apple, cherry and apricot abound from the long boil time, cool fermentation and extended aging of this dark, malty ale. Celebrate this year’s release & save some for next, as this beer matures wonderfully when cellared.

HOPS: Columbus, Willamette

MALTS: NW Pale, British Pale, Caramel, Munich

Pours a red mahogany color, clear with a bubbly tan head. Smells of dark sugars and roasted fruit. Tastes sweet like a spiced cider or mulled wine. A bit of a bourbon flavor and some heat on the finish.

Pours a rich ruby color, perfectly clear, with a sudsy light tan head. It LOOKS like Christmas in my glass. The nose has some toffee, lots of cherries, apples, and a bit of apricot. Wow, I’m salivating.

The concern I had in the taste was that the cherries would have that medicinal taste that cherries present at times in beer, but that concern was unwarranted, because the cherries wrap themselves around that toffee flavor and give the apple and apricot a ride along as well. If this had a touch of cinnamon added, I’d probably spontaneously combust.

As it is, this is a magnificent winter warmer. If it improves with age, as the can states, it’s probably best I don’t have more because my wife would probably smack me in the melon after listening to me wax eloquently about the merits of this magnificent beer.

On tap
L: Ruby body with a white head
S: Sweet and fruity. Cherry syrup, figs, plum, a hint of banana
T: Follows the nose. Fruit syrup sweetness upfront, with plum, grape, cherry, and banana. The body is a little bit toastier, with a hint of caramel, and then a nice touch of spicy heat finishes things
F: Quite warm, with a burst of spice on the tongue that makes the ABV stand out
even more.
O: The syrupy feel is a bit… artificial(?) tasting, but plenty bearable with a small pour. I like the kick on the finish quite a bit. Sort of a style bender that’s a plenty good fireplace sipper

22 Oz bottle poured into 12 oz stein glass.
Look is dark amber with light tan head
Smell is malty with light dried fruit
Slightly sweeter than average for an ale, but tolerable if consumed in smaller quantities.
Strong ABV lends to a taste almost of red wine or dry mead.
Overall fits the idea of what I had in mind when purchasing as a "Christmas Ale". Worth a try!

Poured from 22oz into a high sided tulip glass.

Look is a clear amber brown with a tan head.

Aroma is fruity malt not much from the spice.

Much more spice in the taste with a strong malt body.

Excellent Christmas Eve beer.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish orange with a thin ivory head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of candi malt, plums, apple, light stone fruit, a little vanilla. Flavor is mild caramel and biscuit malt, plums, raisins, light cherry, a hint of red wine with suggestions of seasonal spicing in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A fine winter seasonal ale that leans in style to a Scotch ale, but without the smokiness. The malt and fruit flavors are much like that style, but also appropriate for a winter warmer. Great dried and fresh dark fruit flavors and a little bit of fruitcake. Happy holidays, Silver City.

22 oz bottle, thanks for sharing bro- Pours dark brown with a nice frothy light tan head. Aroma is bready, malt, peat, touch of campfire. The flavor is again peaty, malt, caramel, everything is real mellow, decadent without being too overboard. Delicious

Tasted and smelled pretty boozy. Also minimal carbonation. Tasted like it went flat.

Pours a deep red mahogany with perfect clarity. The generous beige head has good retention, receding to a stable ring and thin cap. A nearly solid sheet of lacing slides quickly back into the body after each sip. Aroma is malty with notes of toffee and dried cherries. Taste is mildly sweet caramel malt and very pronounced dried fruit, especially cherries. Medium bodied, with a hint of alcohol warming.
