Had this beer on tap recently and had the opportunity to compare it side by side with the Zwickle (an imported Kellerbier) and found it to be very true to the style. The hops were very present and herbal in nature without being overpowering. I enjoyed to unfiltered mouthfeel which I would describe as being somewhat Hefeweisen-like in nature. The beer had a pleasent sweetness and a crisp finish which pared well with the copper/straw color.

All in all a very drinkable beer and one that I will enjoy if Summer ever joins us here in the Northwest!

Attractive pour in the tall Blanche de Chambly glass. Plenty of coarse foam, handsome dark yellow brew, and sudsy mouthfeel. It's not quite up to the creamy delight of a real German Zwickelbier, but it's highly drinkable.

Toasted crackery malt to start, with a resiny, honey tang. Some hoppy notes and a bitterish aftertaste. Brewer says the hops are Sterling and rates it at 33 IBUs. The hops are kind of leafy and herb-tasting, but have a lively bitter zing that is just right for this refreshing brew. It's not as sharp and bitter as a lot of Pilsners, but has a mineral and resiny tang.

Rather bitter aftertaste after some sipping. Yeasty flavors further down the bottle. Definitely unfiltered. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Malt & Vine in Redmond, Washington.

Pours a half finger of faintly tanned head over a cloudy light straw-gold colored liquid. Smells earthy hops (hallertauer), iron, copper, pils malt, sulfur, tinny hops (saaz?), and berry from hops (blackberry?).

Taste clean crisp and bold. Quite hoppy for this fairly light beer. Hop flavor is saaz-like tinny with some pear and apricot fruity. Works great with the sharp spicy zip in the hop bitter, similar to the zip in a Bohemian Pils. Crisp sharp fine carbonation complements with the flavors and zip. Finishes with a bit of honey sweet. Nice beer, but is this style supposed to be just a bohemian pils that's allowed to be cloudy?

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and citrus fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and grassy flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is fairly refreshing and easy to drink.

Appearance- Pours up a good amount of head which has excellent retention- it appears it will be a while before I can start drinking this beer. The head is pure cotton white while the body is a slightly hazy pale to medium amber which glows a bit lighter and hazier with hints of orange when held up to the light. A steady but somewhat sparse amount of lacing.

Nose- Pretty subdued- typical lager/pilsner aroma. Sweet malt and grain with the slightest hint of fruity esters. Hints of white grape but very minimal. A tiny touch of honey as well.

Taste- The first notes I get are slightly bitter hops- some woodiness and a little bit of earthiness. Some mineral notes around the edges. Some of the sweet malt and grain of the nose appear alongside some fruitiness but the hops are the dominant aspect of the flavor profile. The woody nature of the Sterling hops has the most presence followed by some earthy and herbal notes which really round out the wood. Notes of citrus lead the palate as I drink more and splashes of honey flit around the flavor profile. Some yeast is present on the finish. A good amount of presence and complexity for a light beer. This beer also has lots of subtlety due to how balanced it is. This appears to be a good representation of the style. And if that statement is accurate, more American brewers should be making these types of beers.

Mouthfeel- In between light and medium bodied with some creaminess and smoothness to it. Just the right amount of carbonation.

Drinkability- Very easy going. It has enough subtlety and presence to make for a very sessionable beer. The only negative is the price tag. At 7 bucks a bomber, I probably won't be buying it again.

Overall- Very solid beer. It doesn't wow me but it is definitely worth a try. The only area in which lacks is aroma but that is to be expected with a lighter style.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a cloudy yellow color with1/2 inch of off-white head that had good retention and very light lacing.

The aroma was mostly base grains, a good earthiness, and some gentle floral hops. The taste was similar, good, smooth grains, with lots of floral hops throughout, and there was quick shot of bitter hops at the back of the tongue.

The body was smooth and even, with a nicely dry finish. Drinkability was good, it went down smooth and quick, and I'll certainly have another. Overall, a very nice brew, one that'll be a choice when you're in the mood for something lighter, certainly worth a shot when you see it.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: medium gold hue with a touch of haze and a robust effervescence. Head is two fingers of frothy ivory foam. Quite attractive!

Smell: rich malty aroma with a strong lager yeast quality. There's also a tinge of citrusy hops here which I really like. Good!

Taste: sweetish malt with a light graininess which offsets the sweetness a bit. Good yeasty character and a moderate bitterness round it out. Overall, quite smooth and tasty.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a very good level of carbonation and a frankly surprising creaminess. Love it!

Overall: this beer is highly refreshing and drinkable. I'll definitely be picking this one up again.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a clear golden orange amber, thin fine white head leaves a long lasting thin film and ring around the glass and wispy lacing. Aroma is bready malt, simple stright forward lager. Flavor is bisquity and bready malt with a hint of citrus and yeast with a pleasant hop kick in the finish. Medium bodied with a hint of creaminess; excellent for a low ABV lager. Deceptively simple, the flavor is complex enough to keep my interest throughout the bottle. An enjoyable lager, the unfiltered process definitely adds more flavor and body to this beer. I wil buy this again.

love the color on this thing. dark for a lager, a tad bit hazy, and not much head... the smell is the weakest part for me, some sour/sweet thing going on for the nose. the sweet aspect smells cheap to me, kind of a cough drop thing goin on. the taste makes up for it. honey, bit of grass, pear and green tea. ends crisp. too bad these aren't in sixers, they'd make a good summer session.
