Dream Machine, an India Pale Lager or IPL, is a melding of varied visions of an India Pale Ale and an Amber Lager. Once poured, its light copper color delights the eyes and a citrusy hop aroma flows through the nose. Upon first sip, a smooth hop bitterness reveals itself – fresh, bold and slightly spicy – before subtle hints of mild maltiness appear. A big hop bite and a crisp, clean lager finish combine for a beautifully balanced beer. Take Dream Machine for a spin and let your reverie begin.

Poured from bottle to pint

Rich gold color and moderate head.

Aroma is of pronounced hops, a touch on the Pacific-Northwest grapefruity side. Not overpowering but very promising.

A pronounced hop bite at first sip that disappears remarkably quickly. No bitterness lingers. Smooth, sweet maltiness in the finish cleans the palate and makes me want to keep sipping.

Overall great beer and glad it'll be year-round!

Dream Machine pours a perfectly clear, medium gold with a finger-and-a-half thick, fluffy white head. Lacing is top notch, and as I sit here typing this, the head is still a finger thick, over ten minutes after pouring it.

Healthy carbonation helps bring the aroma out. Amarillo and Sterling dry hops add a bright, citrusy aroma with a touch of spice on top of pale malts.

The body is more pronounced in the taste. A slight sweetness hits the tongue first, followed by the citrus hop notes. It finishes with a nice spicy hop finish and aftertaste. Overall, surprisingly smooth and well-balanced for a 50 IBU beer.

The mouthfeel is pretty good as well. It's a bit thin as the beer warms, but overall, a medium-light body with a healthy carbonation makes for a smooth, easy-going drink.

Overall, this is an impressive beer, well worth the wait from Magic Hat. It has a great hoppiness to it that hopheads will love, without being too much, as some IPA/IPLs can be.

I got this single 12oz brown bottle at the Jewel//Osco store in Glendale Heights, IL as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99, making this single bottle $1.67. No freshness date.

The beer poured a fairly clear golden/orange color with a big 3-finger rocky white head that lasted several minutes, but for some reason left very little lacing or I would have rated it higher in looks.

Big citrus hop aroma on top of a lager beer smell. It really smelled nice.

The first sip delivers some bitter citrus hop flavors - mostly lemon, orange peel, and grapefruit. Then some sweet malts kick in for balance, but then it returns to some really bitter citrus hop flavors at the finish.

Light bodied, but crisp with above avaerage carbonation.

This was a very unique and interesting pale lager, and I liked it a lot.

12 oz bottle in a lager glass.

A - Hazy amber with a good amount of carbonation. One finger head, good retention. Nice lacing.

S - Citrus, malt, and pine

T - Malty throughout. Starts with fruit and finishes quite nicely with tangy citrus hops and light pine resin.

M - Medium

O - Unlike most of the lackluster posts I've read, I really like this and feel it is an under-rated brew. Go get some! Cheers!

1/19...pours copper gold, high white foam, over an inch and lasting. Pleasant hoppy nose, toffee, malty. Light citrus. Clean, crisp taste, honey, floral, quick fade before the bitter closes. Good carbonation buzz. Very good.

The pour was a nice Amber color with a white head. You could smell the hops off the pour that had a nice earthy aroma. The taste was smooth with a nice bitter hop bite on the back end. This beer made me wonder about hybrid styles! I like the idea of having two styles combined for some nice characteristics. This definitely had all the traits of a lager with the hop presence of an IPA. Very interesting beer!

12 oz bottle served ina pint glass.
Look great in the glass with excellent clarity, plenty of visible carbonation and a large, creamy bone-colored head. The head is exceptionally durable.

Aroma: fruity (citrus) APA with a solid malt base. Approaches 4.
Flavor: followas aroma. Great balance. Mildly bitter.

Feel: excellent - lively but soft. Medium body. Smooth.

O: an exceptional version of this style.

Magic Hat lost me on the Monkey thing and since then I am always skeptical of their brews. It was a shame when last season Cleveland's Playhouse Square featured No.9 since they have few alternatives - I go to the theater a lot and had a lot of No.9's.

So this is a very creative brew. It works where you would expect - it is pretty in the glass and it smells great. The taste is a confused mess of hops and malt and yeast, all great but together less than great. The aftertaste is gone with a chaser. It goes good with food because it is so diverse tasting.

This is not something I would seek out, but it is not something I would refuse. Try it.

On-tap 3/16/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a medium white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains caramelized malts, lager yeast, some citrus and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. Then some sweet flavors of caramel and citrus come in. The hops presence is strong but not over-powering and creates a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for while.

Hazy and moderately dark Amber in color, with an off-white head, the beer has a spicy hop nose, with some orange peel notes. The taste is balanced with a notable bitterness that jumps in at the mid-taste. Medium in body and some enjoyable mealtimes in the finish. Enjoyable beer.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle no. B204++-1257-1354. Sampled on April 2, 2014.

Attractive medium amber pour with a modest off-white head that fades to a ring. Good clarity.

The citrus hop character tends to be the first sensation on the nose but after some further investigation I pick up the basic amber caramel malt character of a lager. Mellow overall.

Medium body.

The taste is in the opposite order with a quick introduction of sweet, caramel malts and then an eruption of citrus hops to finish it off. But altogether it is entirely smooth. Fairly drinkable.

12 oz poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, golden copper color with orange highlights and a finger and a half of white-colored head that slowly dissolved away into a not-thin and not-thick lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Very nice aromas of piney, citrusy hops and bready, biscuit toasted malt, as well as some caramel, black pepper, a touch of coriander and clover.

Taste: Wow, really nice beer. Lots of piney, floral, citrusy hops up front, followed immediately by some caramel-like sweetness and finished with a lot of bready, toasted malt and a touch of brown sugar-like sweetness. Tasty.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, creamy and slightly effervescent. With an ABV of 5.7%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Wow, what a really nice beer. I wasn’t sure what to expect, never having tasted an IPL, but this is really nice. There’s a good balance between the hops and the malt. Recommended.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and great lacing. Smells of earthy malt, hops, slight alcohol, hint of yeast, and slight pine. Fits the style of an American Pale Lager. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, alcohol, hops, hint of floral, slight alcohol, and a hint of earthy malt. Overall, good appearance, aroma, and blend, the body is a little weak.

This pours a copper golden color. Nicely rounded floral aroma notes with some light citrusy hops and a light hoppy kiss on the flavor.

It’s all right by me.

Pours a classic, light pilsner color, pretty modest/weak head. Smell is classic pilsner with a nice subtle shot of citrusy hops. Taste is similar. You can absolutely taste the hops and this would be an enjoyable twist on the classic pilsner on a nice, hot day. Nothing to write home about, but good. I'd drink it again.

Tried in the middle of the day after mowing the lawn. Very refreshing for a lager style beer. Good smell and slight carbonation with a flat mouthfeel if thats possible. Slight nutty taste. Smells of a cross between IPA and dark lager

Nice amber bordering copper color with a thin head with short retention.
Delicious hoppy aroma with predominant bold notes of pine resin and grapefruit. Intense, this is likely fresh.
Hoppy flavor with notes of tobacco, lemon, pine, some grapefruit, a bit of toasted malts and grains, mild earth, Lager yeast, perfume, grass and spices. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
Nice IPL, clear hoppy taste. Well-crafted Lager for hopheads. Having this fresh, in my opinion this is definitely under rated. I would rather have this to almost all standard Lagers.

Coppery gold color with a fat two-inch head. The foam looks fluffy and caves in dimples. The lacing is pretty chunky.

Seabreeze hops with a flowery/oceany scent, light citrus, and wet grassiness. Very clean and crisp, but not snappy. In other words, not a hoppy aroma, per se. Still, very pleasant.

Grassy, tangerine, lemony citrus, and floral notes. Lacks that pilsner bitterness cleanse in the finish. A little sweeter with tea leaf and hop citrus flavors. Hints of peach are subtle, but awesome.

Easy on carbonation. They skimped a little there. The body is comparable. Drinks like a cinch. Could easily follow up with another one. Good stuff.

A - Look is pretty good for a pale amber with some head that sticks around for a bit.
S - Smells of pale malts, some buscuit but not much hops as an IPL should have. I taste.
T - Has some piney goodness mostly clean lager taste. Some biscuit taste. Its not bad.
M - light to medium easy to drink.

Overall nothing special but a decent IPL. Try it!

Dream Machine from Magic Hat Brewing Company, deemed an "India Pale Lager" on the label. Poured from the bottle into a glass, this brew's very, very light tan head leaves very fast amidst the carbonation. Lacing is very decent. Medium amber body.

I smell hops AND malt. Let's see if the taste delivers what my schnoz is picking up.

Yes, sir this sure does have a pleasant mix of hop bitterness and sweet malt smoothness. I'm very impressed. Not much hop aftertaste or afterbite. Not even after dry wafting. This is quite refreshing

Moutfeel is also rather nice, no hop resin here.

3.75 overall, a favorable slot. I was very impressed on how this brew truly DOES maintain a great balance of IPA and lager tastes and sensations. I will probably buy this again.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of citrus/pine hops and bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Nice clean lager flavor with minimal yeast esters present. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid IPL style. Good robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear medium straw colored body.
The aroma is like lemon cotton candy. Interesting.
The taste has a grainy-lemon undertone of bitterness all the way through, with some good malt backup. Nicely balanced.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Nice with some good flavor.
