This must be a cruel joke on behalf of Magic Hat. What the hell? I have always known the company to release unique beer that is normally excellent quality. A green bottle is just the starter of this lame beer. There is not anything that makes this beer stand out (or even fare better) tan any other lager. Blah! I would drink this only when in dire need.

i guess that i'm a little partial to this beer. when i lived in burlington a few years ago, this was a staple in my fridge. due to availability, it's suprisingly hard to get in my area. so on a trip up to burlington recently i picked some up.

appearance: true pale golden yellow

smell: nice balanced smell of hops with slight spice. not overpowering, but definitly not offensive like so many others can be.

taste: very smooth. nice hop bite but not overpowering. refreshing. a perfect substitute for any of the big boys you see everywhere.

this beer is extremely drinkable. maybe has more of a summertime vibe but is more that welcome in my fridge anytime of year.

I got three of these in a holiday sampler pack recomended by my friendly local beer merchant. Being a stout/esb fan I saved these for last, but was very suprised. This is a great beer for aiding the conversion of a mass produced skunk piss drinker to a craft brew drinker. Very smooth yellow/orange color. Taste kind of reminds me of Amstel light. Easy to drink, but only after a few porter's.

Presentation: 12 oz brown twist off green bottle with a “best when fresh” freshness date on the back label. Haha … funny imported looking green bottle with a communist style labeling.

Appearance: Fast to foam with a straw yellow hue, soapy foam sticks around.

Smell: Sugary honey malt with a spicy, earthy, grassy hop … clean to the nose.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Loads of hop oil with a slight bitterness to cap off the malt sweetness. A bit thin in the malt with little to show other than a pale malt character. Finishes with a spicy hop and clean grain.

Drinkablity & Notes: A decent stab at the pilsner style … a fun stab at the sterile imports in green bottles as well. Not that I would go out of my way to buy either this one at least is a local brew.

I love the eccentric gems of wisdom underneath the bottle caps. This Magic Hat pours a clear, straw yellow body, with a medium sized, white head that quickly departs, with only a hint of patch lace.

Aroma is of Pils malt, noble hops, and a hint of lemon.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, and akin to a macro lager.

Taste is lemony citrus, with biscuity, pilsner malt characteristics.

This is a "lawnmower beer", but a good one. Goes down very well, and is very drinkable. Certainly, not up to par with the other Magic Hat offerings I've sampled in the past week, but this is one that should appeal to the masses.

12 ounce bottle. please drink by dating notched in the rear label. Pours a light golden/ straw color. Bright white head, tiny bubbles, some lacing. Nose of biscuits, hay and German hops. Mouthfeel is dry andcrisp. This is a refreshing, tightly wound lager. Quite dry in the finish. Nice summer quaffer, pout this one with some salad and cheese and you'll be doing well.

I picked this up in a mix 12 pack along with 9, HiPA, and Hocus Pocus. It comes in a green bottle with what I would call a "russian" look to the label.
I drank this straight from the bottle so I don't know the exact color but it was definetly a light color as the bottle was translucent . I can't write much about this beer as it wasn't something I would enjoy more than once. If you like Heineken you will like this beer.

If more lagers tasted like this, I might drink more of them. This one looks very unassuming. Typical golden yellow color, and pours to a foamy white head that drops quickly. Aroma is of some sweet fruits, yeast, and biscuit. The flavor is full and inviting, makes you want to have more. It's a bit yeasty and sweet, but changes as it rolls around the mouth. More subtle and delicate flavors arise, like honey, apple, and sweet pear. Clean flavors, smooth mouthfeel. Very enjoyable, not watery like most other American lagers. Leave it to these guys to do it right.

Clear medium gold appearance, nice white head of good duration. Lacing is thick and attractive looking. Nutty aroma, standard malt and good hop prickliness. Flavor takes up where the aroma leaves off, cashew-like nutiness, good medium mouthfeel, and a slightly anise-like licorice hop finish to the profile. Not a ton of interest, but its a nice and drinkable Lager -- leaning on an agreeable (if undistinct) maltiness and a good balance of proper hopping for style. Thanks to Liza P. and her dad for getting it, and Ken K. for dragging it back on the plane.

Mother Lager- Magic Hat "you're never alone with a bone"

Mother Lager poured a light yellow with no head.
Smell was of hops, grass, & straw.
Taste was disappointing. Hops, grass, and a hint of sunflower seed?! Not bad tasting but not very enjoyable.
mouthfeel is watery with a slight sharp carbonation in the rear.

Overall a forgettable lager that Magic Hat should discontinue.

My first "bad" magic hat beer. Hopefully my last too.

Some hop aroma, hoppy drink. Appropriaetly carbonated. Sweetened by malt, and maybe corn.Very fresh and clean and refreshing. Sweet, carbonated finish. Light body, medium mouthfeel. Not a bad one. Better than a macro. Well carbonated, sampled at the brewery.

After fumbling with the cap for a good couple of minutes... "what the hell, a twist off?!" I finally tasted Mother Lager. Yeah, its a lager. Its a good response to all the imported stuff, but its still a green bottled lager which im not a fan of. Reminds me too much of soap water, but if I had to choose between this and say, Heineken, I'd go with this. But I'd always pick an ale over this anyway, so moot point. Overall, good craft for the style, so if you like the style, try this.

Clear pale hay-yellow in hue with minimal animation that trotted towards the smallish white head that reached a measly half finger in height before slowly receding to a foamy cap. It looks thin if not downright naked. The subsequent lacing was very patchy and hardly noteworthy. The nose has some charm, lemon grass upfront, some herbs too with a well-rounded, soft, biscuity backside. Trace amounts of sweetness at the very end. Good enough potency to get the point across. The bouquet is very European Lager in nature; I assume that was the intended vibe. I mean Magic Hat went all out and incased this beer in a trendy green bottle! The palate is very good. Out-and-out impressive really! The style was nailed perfectly. It is very dry and clean and refreshing. The malt is bready, firmer than the nose indicated, which is quite nice, it is almost cracker-like. The hops have to be largely Saaz, herbal and flowery with just a bit of zip. The bitterness is sharp and cutting yet the finish is remarkably delicate and soft. I was not expecting Mother Lager to be this good. Frankly, I was expecting a run-of-the-mill lager; I am extremely delighted I was wrong. Medium/medium full in body, the carbonation is just rigid enough, the mouthfeel is dry and firm, just what I like in the style. The drinkability is excellent, if this was available locally I could see myself buy six-packs of it, as is, I’ll just have to thank UnionMade for the sample!

From the 12 fl.oz. bottle. This has returned for one of the 2016 mixed 12 packs. Sampled on Feb. 13, 2016.

The pour is yellow with a moderate fizzy white head.

I get that distinctive Magic Hat yeast with the other esters including toasted bread and grass.

Light to medium body.

The taste also brings out a bready and toast character with grassy hops but the bitterness seems a bit bigger here than I imagined

A slight letdown from Magic Hat. This beer isn't particularly offensive in any way, but it's awfully boring and lacking in the aroma/flavor departments. Reminds me of Heinekin, maybe Becks. Very little aroma, mouthfeel's watery. Probably great for a hot day, but otherwise, I won't be going out of my way for this.

MH does a great take on the Euro-lager. A touch phenolic in the aroma, but not too much so. Slightly bready and grainy with an undercurrent of malt sweetness. A faint suggestion of pear. The hopping is very reserved. Overall, the beer had a Dutch character, but some leanings toward a German pils as well. The most impressive thing about the beer was a sparklingly clean finish - actually made my mouth feel clean.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Euro-lager, but MH has done a fine job of crafting one of the better examples.

Poured a light straw hue with a half finger white foamy head. There was poor retention and lacing.

The smell was very reminiscent of a green bottle import lager. A thick aroma with a slight husky and smoky element. Floral hop aroma detected as well.

The taste was also similar to the Euro lagers. However, since it is much fresher tasting, it better resembled an AB World Select. Other than that, husky and musty, with a good hop bitterness. I happen to appreciate some of those Euro lagers. This one tastes very similar to a fresh Carlsberg.

The mouthfeel was full and a bit chewy.

Overall an interesting craft offering. Very drinkable and unique. Has both session and lawnmower potential.

Appears a light yellow with a small white head. Huge chunks of carbonation. Fades into a small fizzle with some spotty lacing.
Smell is of a typical imported pilsner with a bit of hops that pop and a faint bit of skunkiness in the background. I really don't like green bottles.
Taste is of a slight Saaz like hoppiness with a grassiness and adjunct lager taste that Magic Hat decided to delve into.
Mouthfeel is ok. It sort of sticks around and sits in the middle of the tongue.
Drinkability, again, is ok. I think they could do a bit better but I picked up a six pack for $5 and this is a replacement for Vermonters to buy instead of an import.
Sort of reminds me of Heinekin and I think that's what the object was with this one...to replace imports at the local bars with this. I think this was a good idea with the whole Yuengling craze that took over much of PA and other parts of the East coast.

One of four offerings from a "Spring Break" 12-pack, I was pleasantly surprised by this tasty lager.

The beer pours a very nice head but with absolutely no staying power. It does however have good lacing down the glass. This was the second of the four offerings from the box that was more carbonated than I like and not much in the terms of a distinct scent. In fact, it didn't have much of any. In the end, it was a flavorful lager which I find much better than most.

I find this offering by the Magic Hat Brewery to be average at best,
one of the lesser lights in the Magic Hat stable of fine beers.
The appearance is of a mildly cloudy offering with a very light head and minimal carbonation, quickly resulting into a large glass of apple juice.
The body feels a little bit empty and the aroma is that of cooked corn.
The taste is fairly well balanced with a slight edge to the malts to end. No linger, just a feeling of abandonment.
This is one member of the Magic Hat family that requires some fine tuning.

Clear, light gold under paperwhite head that shortly gives up the ghost. Sweet-rot, fermenting hay scent. Sickly corn taste with faint bitterness. Sharp and fizzy. Thankfully missing finish. Bleh.

I realize this is what it's supposed to is, but it's a bad joke.

12ozer, the mystery brew in my recently purchased Magic Hat 12 pack from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA. Cap underside reads "Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight".

Poured into a glass mug, inch tall white head forms on the pale golden liquid, leaving minimal lace as drinking occurs. Nothing much dramatic jumps out at me with this brew, which is somewhat odd for a Magic Hat brew, which usually grab your attention one way or another. Little aroma, the taste is the epitome of average to me, with the mouthfeel and drinkability taking advantage of the absence of ill. If not knowing, would have never known this was a Magic Hat product.
